How long after miscarriage to resume IVF??

Post by kristinpa »

Hey Ladies,
I unfortunately have a non viable pregnancy  that occured from a clomid cycle that I did just prior to starting meds for IVF. We discovered the pregnancy the day I was to start Follistim. At that point I had been taken my last BCP the day before and had 9 days of Lupron. The RE had to pull me off Lupron and everything was put on hold while we monitored the situation. Unfortunately my baby angel stopped developing at 5 1/2 weeks (I am 8 weeks pregnant). Next week I am having a suction D and C. Two weeks later he will check my HcG and make sure it is zero. Does anyone know whether or not I will have to do the BCPs again or will I go straight back into Lupron and then start stims? My husband and I are just so upset about this. The silver lining is now I know that I can get pregnant and I am confident that IVF will be successful for me.
Hugs,
Kristin age 37 1st pregnancy

Hey Ladies I am freaking out....I just read that Lupron is pregnancy category X and when I starting taking it corresponds with the time that my pregnancy appeared to stop developing which was 5 1/2 weeks. My RE never did a pregnancy test before starting it. I had what I thought was a period so he started me on the BCP and Lupron ...not even a urine HcG. Could the Lupron be the cause of what is happening??? I will never forgive myself if I did something to harm my unborn baby.
Need advice so badly right now....

Unfortunately I have to have a d and c next week. My second opinion, my ob/gyn, concurs that the pregnancy is not viable. He says he does not know enough about Lupron to form an opinion and we will probably never know if it affected the pregnancy as 25% of pregnancies end in miscarriage in the first trimester anyway. He said the good news is that I did get pregnant with Clomid and that means that everything works and that I will get pregnant again. He thinks IVF is aggressive at this point and recommends I try Clomid again which I think I will do. The only reason I agreed to IVF is that the RE said I didn't respond well to Clomid..obviously I did because I am pregnant. I don't feel comfortable going back to the RE. My ob/gyn can do the Clomid for me and if I need IVF in the future I have found another RE that is highly recommended.
hugs,
Kristin

First I want to say that I am so sorry for your loss.

I am not sure how long doctors have you wait before picking back up w/IVF. I am in a similar situation myself. I just had a d&c on the 22nd of may and we have our first appointment with our IVF doctor today. I don't know if he will want us to wait a month or two before starting treatment or start sooner. I have a feeling I will have to wait a little while to let the lining of my uterus heal after the d&c.

You didn't do anything wrong. Actually, it seems like your doctor should have done a test prior to starting injections but I'm new at this too and I don't know if they usually do that or not. I know it's hard not to blame yourself, but try not to. Often women will blame themselves after they lose their baby... I know I did. I've had 5 so far (I have a chromosome condition that causes them to miscarry 66% of the time) and I still manage to blame myself from time to time.

Good luck and I hope you can start as soon as possible! Remember though that if you have to wait, it might not be a terrible thing b/c you want your uterus lining in the best possible condition so your little embies can implant correctly (This is what I have been telling myself so I won't be too disappointed if I have to wait a couple months).

I'll let you know what my doctor says today.

Take care and God bless.
