I also got pregnant on the first try with IVF and ICSI. I am 19 weeks pregnant with twins. We paid for all of it out of pocket but it does work the first time sometimes.. Good luck to you and best wishes.. JESS

Also pregnant the 1st time around with IVF/ICSI. We tried only 1 IUI which didn't work out. We transferred 2 embies are now we are expecting our 1st baby: a lil girl  and I also came down with severe case of OHSS (hospital stay of a week) but it was worth it all. Wishing you the best outcome b/c I know as a self-pay, it's expensive.

BFP 1st time here as well. We were IVF with ICSI due to male factor. (We did try one IUI but they told us with our issue there was very little chance of that working - I think they gave us 3-5% odds per try for IUI.) Our insurance also covered nothing associated with IVF so I know what you mean expense wise.

Good Luck!

Rockrat71: I was ecstatic to hear that we had a BFP on our very first IVF cycle. And by looking at all of the posts here, it surely can happen to any of us. I think everyone here would agree that the best advice to you is to just stay positive! Treat yourself well and enjoy this adventure.

(Boy there seems to be a lot of twins out there on the first try too in reading these posts). How very exciting!

Erica: I too am 4w4d today. We are one the same schedule it looks like! How are you feeling? When is your next doctor's visit?

Good luck and best wishes to each of you,
Kathi

Pregnant After 1st Treatment

Post by faithful »

Hi Rockrat71,

I hope that my story can give you a little bit of hope.

I'm 33 years old and have been married for 12 years-- with my husband for 3 years before that. From the time that we were married, we have been trying to have a child, that is, up until the year 2000 after my SECOND ruptured ectopic in my SECOND tube (first one in 1998).

We thought that we would never have a child. Sadly, IVF was not an option for us because we could never afford the treatment, not even one. One fateful day, we received a letter in the mail from the company my husband works for stating that our medical insurance provider was changing. What did we care? Happens all the time. A few months later when the benefits kicked in, we were pleasantly surprised to find that they covered ONE HUNDRED PERCENT of ivf. We never new that we could be so blessed.

We started our search for an RE. We found one, but during the workup, extenuating circumstances caused us to abort the treatment cycle. Two years later, we found ourselves going for it again. This time we went all the way. Since most of the workup had already been done 2 years ago, our RE went straight for the jugular, so-to-speak. I got on the meds and the rollercoaster ride began. But it all seemed so easy. Our first consultation with him was March of this year. After being on the meds for most of April, my retrieval was May 7th, transfer was May 13th and I am now 8 weeks pregnant.

I do believe in miracles, Rockrat. My story is one. I will keep you in my prayers and hope for you what I've been hoping for myself for the last 12 years. I am not a relgious person, but I am a spiritual one, so I must say keep praying and stay faithful because God does answer prayers.

Hi Erica: My next appointment is tomorrow morning as well (blood). And like you, I am hoping that they will tell me at that point when we come back for my ultrasound. I just can't tell you how excited we are! Of course I'm sure that you are feeling the very same way. I am so anxious to find out how my levels are doing...so hard not to worry! Good luck tomorrow! Please let me know how it turns out for you. I can't wait to hear all about it. I'm so glad to have found you since we seem to be doing this on the same schedule. :D

Faithful: Our insurance story is very similar to yours. We lived in Florida our entire lives (never wanting to live anywhere else). And like you our insurance wouldn't touch infertility. We tried to pay out of pocket for as long as we could and just couldn't go very far with it. We had accepted (sadly) that we may never be able to start a family. Then this past December DH accepted a new job that took us to Alabama and his new insurance pays 100% of our treatments! They even allow us 3 IVF cycles. We too aren't deeply religious, however we are definitely spiritual. And we know that we were brought to this state for the very reason that we were able to get the help that we needed. We have no family here, but we have found the most incredible doctor. And the fact that we received a BFP on our very 1st IVF just tells us that moving here was meant to be. Congratulations to you on your good news!

Kathi, that is REALLY awesome! When I hear stories like yours (and consider my very own), it just gives me goose bumps all over! Congrats on your BFP and I wish you and DH well!

Erica: How did your appointment go today? I am very happy with my lab results. My levels definitely seem to be doubling every 48 hours like they should be. They don't need me back until Friday the 29th for more blood and we also will have our first ultrasound that day. I am very excited!

What about you?

I will be 22 weeks on Sat I also got BFP on first try IVF/ICSI with very few odds and one emmbie transfer!!! Honey let me give you some hard earned advice.
Please do all you can to just relax, and I am more of a spiritual person than religious, but I decided after 14 yrs of infertility procedures that this was gonna be my last go at it. I am 32 and DH is 40. I told myself when I started the treatments that whatever happened was in GOD's hands and if it was meant to be for me to have a baby, I would. When I started the meds I did not start on a strong enough dose, and did not respond to stims like I was suppose to. Wasn't producing enough eggs to proceed I was told to take stims one more night and come back to retest, when I went back I was sure that the cycle was cancelled. But again I told myself on the 3 hour drive there,"It is all up to GOD's will" When they tested me I had developed more eggs and the ones that were there had doubled in size. So I got to proceed. On day of Retrieval I had 7 Follies, which produced 4 eggs, only 3 of those eggs fertilized, and 2 made it to blasto stage. When I went in for transfer, DH and I discussed having both emmbies put back or just one, we both decided that we would do just one and if it did not take we would try the other. So we put back one, I went home and rested that day and the next went back to normal routine and put it out of my mind. Two weeks later I went for beta and it was positive, i could not believe it, I was in complete shock up until about 3 weeks ago when I discovered that my baby was a boy!!!
So just try not to allow yourself to put your life on this, and trust me I know how hard that is because I done it for so many years, i cannot tell you how many times over the years I was told just relax and you will get pregnant, well maybe there is some truth to that after all! After two miscarriages and 14 yrs I had no choice but to put it in someone elses hands.

Good Luck Sweetie, I will be thinking of you, please keep us posted.
Also feel free to PM me anytime!!!
