Hi Marie,

This is my 1st time posting on this board. I know what you're feeling right now. I had a 5dt last week and my blood test was this am (14days post retrieval, 9 days post transfer). HPTs on Wednesday, thursday, and this am right before my blood test were all negative. (???maybe a faint positive on this am's HPT..but with really hard concentration). Anyway....my beta was positive-over 100. I still can't believe it. Please don't give up hope-its way too early for you to test. I am proof of that.

I was an HPT addict, so let me tell you that you've tested way too early. I did HPTs after all of my cycles and it can be heart breaking, stressful, and very inaccurate, but I did them anyway because I was so impatient to find out. I used the most sensitive HPTs I could find (the early response tests) and still I didn't get a positive until 8 or 9 dp 3dt (and boy was it faint, I had to squint to see it!). My first beta was that day and it was 45, so you can see that the blood tests are so much accurate that those HPTs. I can't say "don't do them" because I did them constantly with all of my cycles, but if you do choose to take them, be aware that testing early can lead to a lot of false negatives..... And, if you're going to do one, at least do the most sensitve you can find - doing a 'regular' HPT won't do you any good until 14-15 days after your ER.

Good luck!

Hi everyone..

Thank you so much for your replies.. it does give me much more hope..
I don't have many symptoms as yet, no cramps, just sore (.)(.). Doing a preg test means I'm actually doing something, but I know I shouldn't.

My clinic will be doing a urine sample, not a blood sample on day 12 after ET. Just hope it's a good one!!

Thanx again for your responses. Happy Lives.. Love Marie...xx baby dustxx

If you did blastocyst transfer, then five days after transfer your serum hCG levels will typically be between 0 and 50. Probably too low for reliable detection by the HPT.

If you did cleavage stage transfer (day 3, the most common type to transfer), then five days after transfer your serum hCG will be between 0 and 0. Kind of tough to detect that with an HPT.

In other words, you are testing way too early.

I as (a ritual) test on day 7 post transfer and always negative. I have been pregnant every time, doing the hpt 4 days later. I too get the transfer done 2 days after retrieval.
Wait another week and do it again.

Thank you all so much for your replies...

I will try and stay away from the HPT at present.. although I might cave..
I will try and stay positive now I have spoken with you..

I'm even starting to talk to my embies inside me.. even if it all ends in disaster. Then at least I have two embies NOW! a part of me and hubby. I know they are there now, that is special in itself. even for a short while. If it was not for the fertility clinic I would not be here right now!!

Keep spirits up and happy thoughts... Marie xx

hpt after et

Post by dixiegal1 »

i know my doctor told me not to try hpt because results could be false... but i started a few days after 5dt. couldn't help myself. I thought if i took one every couple days... and something changed that maybe it would be a little more accurate. they say trigger shot is out of your system withing 7 tp 10 days. I took hpt on 6/18... exactly 10 days after trigger and got a negative. a few days later.... very very faint positive... almost missed it. continued everyday with exact test... and so far positive gets darker and darker. may be false... but has kept my spirits up and anxiety down. LOL.

Yes.. let me post my story..
Been TTC for almost 6 years.. This was our first IVF w/ ICSI.. I had a 3 day transfer on June 7th.. I tested with a HPT on fathers day.. June 17th.. which is 10days past 3 day transfer.. NEGATIVE!! I was devistated.. I knew girls that were getting bfp's at 8dpt or 9dpt.. and not me at 10dpt.. I was doomed.. The test said that you had to read the results within 3 minutes..The pamphlet said after 3 minutes the results were invalid.. well at 3 minutes there was no evidence of a line.. so i went to bed and cried and cried.. got up and checked it again about 15 min later and there was a faint line.. so it gave me a glimmer of hope.. well DH said lets test again just to be sure.. so i tested again with the same test.. @3 minutes there was no line.. @ 5 minutes there was a line.. I posted on another site the pic of the hpt and the girls swore it was a positive but it made no sense that the instructions said it was invalid after 3 minutes so I didn't believe it as a BFP.. I was devistated.. cried all that day.. my Beta was the next day.. I had already prepared myself for bad news but still had hope because of those lines.. the nurse called a few hours after the blood test.. Beta was 73!! I couldn't believe it.. I screamed!!!
so yes.. its possible.. :) Beta is the only sure 100% thing!!

Good luck!

Hi girls,

I've tried so hard to keep positive throughout this tww, but I need to try and prepare myself ..I have not felt like this until now..I would rather have tears tonight instead of tomorrow...

Hubby wanted me to go out with him to the local pub tonight... I just could not bring myself to go... All the questions,,,,I have no answers to give... and I know I would just burst into tears...I have some really good friends and I know they would try and be very supportive, but non have ever gone through this.

I know people have had a last minute reprieves, but my miracle is probably waiting at the Priory as we speak, he is frozen with his brother.....

I will let you know what the clinic says tomorrow. I will think of you all, and how supportive you have been over this tww. Love really does make the world go round...

All my love now and forever Marie..xxx

CVM3,

I just wanted to wish you good luck. There are many women out there that had NEG. HPT and ended up having BFP.

Hi Marie

I couldn't just read and run. I'm surprised your clinic only does urine test and on day 12. Personally I feel this is too soon. My clinic only did urine tests but they waited until day 16. I think if you come back negative today then you should test again next week.

There have been quite a few ladies who did a HPT on the day of their betas, HPT was negative but betas were very positive!

Best of luck to you.

Jo

To each and every one of you...and hello Jo

I don't think you realise how you have all given me so much support. Without you I would have ended up in some nutty house wearing a white coat by now...

I have tried to stay so positive throughout this tww.. and as you know towards the end I knew... I JUST KNEW... BFN...

I have two small embies inside me as we speak,. until AF comes they remain there in my eyes...I get some comfort from knowing that...

Jo I do understand what you are saying about being early.. all my clinic said was to stop taking the pessaries and if you dont start AF then come back next week for a blood test... My hopes are just too dashed to think about this now...

It was just not meant to be this time round... perhaps next time.?
I will try again hopefully in August with our other two frozen little ones.

I wish each and every one of you all the love in the world and hope everyone's wishes come true...Love and hugs Marie xxxx
