Fetal Doppler Machine

Hello Haven't posted for a while, nothing been happening (which is GOOD) so haven't had much to say. Just a question today - have any of you considered hiring or buying a fetal doppler (same as the midwife's one) to listen to the baby(s) hearbeat(s) yourself? I read this on another website and found a company that hire them and you can buy them on ebay too. What do you all think of this idea?? Now that I've found them, I'm suddenly really desperate to get one but don't know if it's a good idea or not. I'm such a worrier that listening to the heatbeats whenever I feel like it will really help me relax - but on the other hand, what if I find them one day then can't find them the next!! Opinions pleeeeeease Sarah x ps - 14 weeks + 2 days today hope all the bumps are well!

HI Sarah Glad to hear you're sounding well!! It's funny, isn't it. We spend so long imagining what it's like to be pregnant and then when we are pregnant, it's not how we thought it was going to feel. For the first 4 months I didn't really feel any different - just fatter!! There seems to be a lot of debate on the doppler thingy. there's another website that I read sometime, Fertility Friends, and a couple of the girls on there have them and swear it's made a difference to their stress levels being able to listen to their heartbeats every days. I think you need to be careful you don't hire it too early as you can't always pick it up before about 16 weeks which in itself will probably cause more stress!! Another girl told of a doctor telling her off for using one as it's not good for the baby. There seems to be absolutely no evidence of this but it certainly set the cat amongst the pigeons!! All evidence seems to suggest it's harmful but any comment like that would make you wonder I suppose. I must admit I thought about getting one but before I know it, i'm 20 weeks pregnant and reckon I'll be feeling them move around any day now so there's no point! Good luck with your decicion! Hiya Twin Buds Helen - 21 weeks I started to feel them, it was after the danish!! now I feel them during the day - they react to different things - like hot drinks, ice cold drinks and chilli sauce. Also when i massage cream into my belly they like that, so DH now like to do that. I've got a little listening machine which won't pick up heartbeats until 6months, but I can play them music - gun & roses........... take care Love Mags

Hi Mags and Helen I think I've changed my mind - it's alot of money to spend and could actually make me more worried if I can't find anything. Plus I think it would be a novelty that would quickly wear off. I've got a m/w appointment next Thursday so will mention it to her first before doing anything else. The last few days I've felt really paranoid which I think started me thinking about the doppler thing, but today am not feeling too bad (not that anything has changed mind you). Thanks for your advise Helen, it's stopped me wasting a hundred odd quid for now. Ohhhhhh roll on next thursday is all i can say. Love Sarah x

Sarah Reckon you have made the right decision - in life these days I think we have too much available to us at times! Thank goodness we do or most of us wouldn't be here PG would we! I pondered it then thought no - knowing me I would not find one and stress levels would go sky high. My midwife said when I get to that stage I can go in as much as I want and she will do it for me - does she realise what she has said? I think it is normal to have those thoughts you have been having and every so often we will get worried for no apparent reason - it's called wanting these babies so much! Hi Sah Glad to hear you're so well and that things are progressing well. Time seems to be flying really quickly. I haven't posted for ages as time is flying by at the moment. Lili is 6 weeks tomorrow. It's so amazing having a baby - I keep looking at Lili and can't believe she's real and mine. Good luck and take care. Lots oflove Lou XXX
