question about progesterone

Post by Sarah30 »

Hi Trish

I was using progesterone injections and was due to use them up until the 12th week of pregnancy. Apparently with IVF because your body is forced into being pregnant, sometimes it doesn't recognise the fact and doesn't make the progestone needed to support the pregnancy (after my +'ve preg blood test, my progesterone dropped dramatically, so I had the injections, that was second IVF). Third time I started injecting straight after ET as they didn't want to risk the progesterone dropping again - I injected for several weeks but then had a skin reaction so they swapped me to crinone gel pessaries instead.

Without a good production of progestone, your pregnancy cannot survive, so it's a good thing and nothing to be worried about. Some clinics don't give the opportunity of progesterone support so consider yourself lucky.

Hope this makes sense and puts your mind at rest a bit.

Love Sarah

now 14 + 3 with twins :o)

question about progesterone

Trish

some progesterone support is now being given to non IVF/ICSI /Assisted conception to prevent miscarriage so no harm done.
I was not on injections but on 2 times 400 mg pessaries until last saturday so end of week 9 - now off it and was worried that body would not maintain progesterone. By week 12 the placenta has taken over anyway and produces everything you need - at my stage (10.4) I should be producing my own in increasing quantities and the placenta should then take over.
Love
Tracey
xxx
PS Sarah glad you are well

Hi

I was on 2 x 400mg pessaries until my 12th week - Its seems clinics differ in their feelings toward this, although my clinic said that in a few months they will stop at the 6 weeks stage.

Love Mags
22 and 3 - Twins

Hi Trish

All clinics seem to vary on this one. I stopped using the torpedos pretty much as soon as I got my positive result. I'm now 20 wks and 3 days pregnant. Either way seems to work - I'd be inclined to follow the advice of your clinic if I was you!

Best of luck.

Helen xx
