If Beta #'s more than dbl in 48 hrs, does that mean twins???

Post by klor »

I received the good news on Monday that I am pregnant and was told that my Beta level was 172. I went back today (48 hours later) and my level is 610. I know they are looking for the level to double. Does it mean we arwe having twins if the numbers more than double? I know there is a wide range in these numbers.

I was successful last year and my Beta numbers increased a lot more this time around. I was pregnant with twins, but they called one of the babies a "vanishing twin". She didn't quite hold on and never developed. However, I went on to have a healthy baby girl.

My ultrasound is scheduled for 7/10, but the curiosity if there is more than one is killing me!!!!

Thank you!!

It's hard to say but I would guess yes. My office just told me that they don't read into those numbers and mine went form 62 to 284. We are pg w/ twins but I wouldn't bet the farm on any betas. All it means is that you should celebrate because you are PG!!!!!! WHOOOHOOO!!!!

Congrats!!!

Take care,

My first beta was 147 and 48 hours later it was 980 and I am 20 weeks pregnant with twins. My Doctor had told me it should be anywhere from 400-700 48 hours later after the first beta reading.

Thanks for posting your numbers ladies. They seem to vary quite a bit, so I guess I will have to wait another 2 weeks for my ultrasound!!

As far as the vanishing twin, they spotted two sacs during my frist ultrasound (which was done at about 3 1/2 weeks after the transfer). They noticed that one sac was smaller and didn't appear to be growing at the same rate. I went in for a 2nd ultrasound a week later and there were two heartbeats. However, the second sac was still much smaller and the doctor felt it would not survive. By the next ultrasound a few weeks later, there was no sign of the 2nd sac. The doctor said it is actually quite common but a lot of people aren't aware because most people conceiving naturally don't have ultrasounds this early on. Because of the IVF procedure, we get ultrasounds earlier which can spot these things.

He didn't give me much of an explanation as to why it happens though. One of life's mysterys, I guess?

Thanks again for posting your levels.
