New to this board and getting ready for my first IVF

Post by Jen Mahoney »

Hi everyone my name is Jen. I'm 26 and my DH is 29 and we have been TTC for 7 years now. After testing for 4 years we were told two years ago that IVF with ICSI was our only hope for having a child together. It took us those two years to prepare for this journey.
I have an-ovulitory syndrome with some tube damage with clubbing on my left tube. DH has vericosile that has caused a low sperm count.
We started the IVF process at the end of May. The first step for us was the consultation. We also have done the mandatory IVF class. DH had his seamen analysis last week with not so good results but will be testing again. If the results come back the same he will need to have a Testicular Biopsy. Today I had my SIS/Trial Transfer with not so good results too. They couldn't find my left ovary (it could be adhered to my colon, this has happened before) and only found 5 eggs in my right ovary. I was hoping for better results. Now I have to go back for another SIS/TT this time taking Magnesium Citrate to empty my colon the night before.
I'm here to meet other women going through this process and am willing to talk about it. Because my DH and I have decided not to tell our family we are dong this I really don't have any one to talk to. I'm hoping this message board will be a good support system. I had no idea what kind of emotional roller coaster we were going to be put through doing this.

Hi I am in the same position as you. Start my first burselin injections on 25th june and am so nervous. Hoping won't be as bad as I expect??????????
Haven't told anyone we are going through this either as seem to be finding all my friends are announcing their pregnancies. Trying to be happy for them!!
We are having IVF with ICSI (sperm already been surgically removed). Finding it hard not to get my hopes up too high.

Marie,
Thank you so much for responding to my post. I would love to chat. I don't blame you for not wanting to waste your time posting your story especially if you've had before with no response. Time is something that women going through IVF don't have much of.

Lizzi,
I want to thank you as well for responding. I'm finding it really hard not to announce our IVF status to our family. I’ve even been avoiding people. Most of our friends have children so its birthday party after birthday party that we must attend. It's hard when you’re the only couple that attends without children. I haven't done any of the injections yet and am not sure which ones I'll be using so I totally sympathize with your nervousness. How did your hubby handle the surgically removing of his sperm? I'm afraid this is what my hubby might have to go though. I would love to know more about it.

Hello everyone!

Hello, ladies!!
I am also relatively new here. I've been visiting the June/July buddies at the General forum, but every lady there is way ahead of me. I would like to join your discuss, if possible. We could start a new subject in the General forum, if you want. You could also see more messages there, than in the Introduction forum or the IVF forum. Anyway, anything you like.

I am 29. TTC for 2 yearts. 5 unsuccesful ICC. This is my first IVF cycle. I begun the suppression shots on the 21t day of my cycle and now I am on the fourth day of shots. I am waiting for my period, to have my first ultra sound. But my period is always late, so I see many shots in my future!!!

Don't want to tire you. I you agree to join you, I will tell you more details for me. I have already written many details in the General forum. The ladies welcomed me, but they talk mostly to each other, since they are on the same stage of IVF and it is difficult for me to catch up.

Thank you

polysystic ovaries syndrom-high prolactine levels
husband small problem with quality

Thanks for your reply

Hi Jen, and others,
as I said I didn't want to be rude, but thanks for the reply. It seems that you have a few which is good.

Well I to have psos but that is just the half of it as it turns out with all the the tests that you are subjected to do hubbie to has a problem with sperm as well. Not exactly what we wanted to hear but you deal with what you are delt with.

We are waiting for a few more results to come back and then we should have the go ahead to try our 1st round of IVF with ICSI.

I have been chatting with someone via emails and it is amazing how you have so many things in common the emotions, the fears everything, you just name it.

Well look forward to the next reply.
Take care and I hope that you are all well.

alexprafti,
Hi! I think it would be a great idea to start a thread for us in the general forum. I too am not as far along in the process as the other ladies but would still like to know what I have ahead of me. If you would like I can start a forum or if you have one already started please let us know!

Marie,
Don't worry, I didn't take it as being rude at all.
May I ask what psos is? I'm not quite hip to the abbreviations yet. It sounds like you and your DH are in the same boat as me and my DH. Our RE keeps finding more obstacles and delaying the process. We thought we would be ready for retrieval in July but now were looking more like September, possibly even October. It's so frustrating!
I've also been chatting with someone on IM and your right it is weird how much you have in common with the person. I guess I’ve felt so alone in my feelings for so long it's hard to imagine anyone else could feel this way too.

Hello, Jen!!
Glad to hear from you.
No, I haven't started any thread of my own on the general forum. If you want, you can start one and ofcourse, I will join immediately.
I see that your process might be delayed. Could I ask for the reasons or is it too personal to mention them?

Hello Everyone

Post by wannababynow »

I hope I'm not butting in but wanted to give everyone some positive reassurance. My husband and I have been TTC for 2 yrs as well. We had 7-8 failed IUI's, I lost count. There were male and female factors.

I stimulated really well but my egg quality was poor. They retrieved 18 but only 4 were fertilized and grew at the normal rate. They were transferred back on the 13th and I found out today that I'm PREGNANT. Keep your chin up! I know it is hard. I did confide in my close friends which really helped through the stressful process.

If you have any questions for me please feel free to ask, I’m an open book!

Jessica

Alexia,
I'll start a thread for us in the General Forum. Any idea for a title? I was thinking "Hoping for a summer baby".
Our process had been delayed for 2 reasons. 1. My DH first seamen analysis showed 0 sperm so he will need to retest and possibly do a testicular biopsy. 2. During my trial transfer they could not find my left ovary. I now need to do a second trial transfer this time taking magnesium citrate to empty my colon. I've had problems in the past with my left ovary being adhered to my colon so they are thinking this might be the case again and if it is I might need to have surgery to remove the adhesions....again. The second trial transfer is a month away.

Marie,
How did your appointment go?

Jessica,
CONGRATULATIONS :D :D :D :D !!! I wish you all the best in your pregnancy.

Jen,hello.

The title for the new thread is just fine!!
I wish the problems causing the delay to be fixed with the most fast way. Solutions are always there, but I understand how it feels. Before finding out that I have fertility issues, I would have never imagined how many medical problems you can meet in your way!! I still find it very frustrating! Getting pregnant is something that to most people seems really simple!! I was one of them! Anyway....
Please, keep us posted. Good luck with everything.
