How Many Embies to Transfer?

Post by Sher8 »

I am a little confused and hoping to make the right decision. I recently had ER and now have 5 eggs that fertilized and my ET is scheduled for tomorrow.

The clinic asked me this a.m. how many I would like to transfer 2 or 3? They said that 3 of the 5 fertilized eggs look best. I am 39 years old and was leaning toward having 3 transferred tomorrow, but I am so confused. I would like twins, but have to admit that it would be overwhelming for me. Our daughter was a handful those first few months, but of course she is the best thing that has ever happened to me.

Two years ago I had 2 embryos put in and had a singleton.
Anyone have any thoughts or experiences to share regarding how many to transfer?

Thanks in advance,
Sher8

Hi Sher

Wow you don't hang around! It ony seems like last week you did your FET! Good on you! I don't really have any advice about transfer - it would be tempting to go for three but then you do have the risk of multiple births. I really don't know - sorry not to be of any use. Good Luck though. Vicky

Our RE transfers 3 in anyone over the age of 35. He said it's just better odds. I can't really tell you what to do but I know how tempting it is for you. I hope someone with more knowledge on this can help you. Please let us know what you decide.

Thanks Jen, I went with 3 with my doctor's recommendation. There are very low odds with having triplets and that is my main concern. All were 3-day, 8 cell so I hope to have luck with one.

Sher8 - Good luck to you in your 2ww! Glad your ET went well! The 8 cell embies have a good rate of success and that is how 1 of our 2 - 8 cell embies took this time. Last time it was a 6 or 7 cell embie that gave us our beautiful DD. Wishing you the very best!

Thanks Christine. I am 4dpt and do not feel a thing. It is hard to tell this time since last time I had OHSS and was extremely bloated and uncomfortable. This cycle was entirely different and my ovaries went down by the transfer date. Not sure how this is going to go??

Do you recall having any signs this early on??

Sher8- I actually started getting nausea about 1 week after ET. Otherwise a little breast swelling - but figured that was the Progesterone. The last time we did IVF - I didn't feel much but scatter brained :) But I didn't take much stock in anything I felt figuring the Progesterone was to blame. Implantation should have taken place by now or will very soon for you - so it may be too early for symptoms anyways. Keep your chin up - and know we're praying for much success for you!

Thanks for your encouraging words. I definitely have felt scatter brained lately. I'll be sure to fill you in on test day.
