Post by Jane37 »

I'm having my first IUI in the middle of next month and I am looking for a buddy to share the experience with. If anyone else is in the same position it would be good to chat.

Hi Jenn,
Thanks for the reply. I am having an HCG shot just before ovulation and progesterone for spotting after ovulation. If that doesn't work they're talking about the next one with medications from Day 3. AF is due on Sunday and I have a 26 day cycle so I'm guessing it will be about July 13th. I start ultrasounds on day 9 or 10.
What information have you been given about meds? Have you had an IUI before?
I can understand that you are upset about it all seeming so much. I was offered my IUI straight after my laparoscopy cycle and I needed to get my head around the whole idea before I could do it. Now I've done that I just want AF to come and to get going :?. I know it will because I've had the spotting since day 15 this cycle :( .
Take care,
Jane

hi ladies. i am also doing iui in july. dh and i have been ttc for 14 months now, and found out recently, dh has poor morphology. only 2% good. we just dealt with that blow when we found out with my lap, that i have endo. the endo damaged my tube and ovary. so as soon as af arrives we can start. but my cycle is so over the place. but according to my guesswork she should arrive any time after the 9th. for the 1st time i cant wait to c her.

the only meds doc is putting me on is chlomed, and then an injection to release eggs. and two iui a day after each other.
dh and i both 27
dh poor morphology
me endo, one damaged tube,
and one damaged ovary.
1st iui mid july 07- bfn
2nd iui mid aug 07-bfn

hi

jane - i have never had an iui before - so this is the first. i was on clomid for the last 2 months (without the iui) and now i am onto this. i am taking gonalF - which is an fsh hormone - then i have orivadol (sp?) to trigger ovulation - then the iui. i did ok with the clomid - the only side effect i really had with it was sore bbs before AF - which was a first for me.

i ovulate ok - the reason i am doing all this is because i had an ectopic pregnancy in february - they saved my tube - but it later had to be removed because it was swollen.

so i am doing all this to hopefully speed up the process a little.

sorry you think AF is going to show up - lets hope she doesn't and you
are pregnant :D - its not over yet!!!!!!!

they also told me to have sex the night before my iui  - i am not so sure about that (i was reading a your post from a few weeks ago about that).... i thought it was best for DH's swimmers to build up before an iui???? i am going to ask about that. when he was tested he had a count of 120 million - which is good - but still - i don't want this cycle to be a bust because his count was low because we had sex the night before.

hi kerian

good luck with the clomid!!!! have you been on it before? or is this the first time?

we will get through this girls!!!!!!!!! :D

Hi there Ladies,

I'm happy to be a buddy! I think it would be good to share the experience with someone - July is going to be my 3rd attempt - just got my period today - so feeling low. Had a good sob, big hugs from hubby and i've decided to get right back on the train and go again! Almost made it to the end of the 2week wait, which was a bummer all round. The last round i did i had sex the night before my IUI and we got 100 million sperm, much more than last time when we didnt - so i dont think this hurts to do at all.

How you feeling, excited, nervous, all of those i bet?

hi leeza

i am so sorry that AF showed up. the 3rd time is a charm - lets hope that this next iui cycle will give you a nice positive result!!!!

i understand about giving yourself a big cry - i did that yesterday. i am 10 dpo and so bummed out about starting iui's soon. i cryed on and off all day yesterday - lol - DH didn't even know what to do. he is so cute.

great news about your dh's sperm count being so high - i am going to double check with my doctor when we need to.

what medications are you on with your iui????

and here is a question for everyone......

my doctor makes you take suppositories (progesterone) while in the 2 ww and if i do get a positive result - for another 12 weeks.... why is that????? is it something with the medications that can lower your progesterone???? or is it just as an added benefit??? that makes me nervous too.

Hi Ladies,

AF arrived today (early) so I'm out for this month. Not surprised because I've had spotting since day 15. I'm now kind of excited and nervous at the same time! Anyway that means IUI in about 13 days :) I cried most of yesterday too because my whole family were here last week and they flew home yesterday. While they were here I could put all the IUI thoughts out of my head but then I had to deal with it when they'd gone. Turns out I had PMT as well. :( Leeza, I'm with you on the disappointment, guess we'll be doing our IUIs around the same time. Kerian, I'm sorry about your weird cycle, that mst be hard to deal with. Luckily my cycle (apart from this month) is pretty regular.

My husband's results are fine, until my laparoscopy my tubes were blocked but because of my age and spotting they want to speed things up a bit which is why we're doing IUI. Back in February they offered IVF or a laparoscopy, at that point I wasn't ready for the whole IVF thing but luckily the surgery was successful, we've been TTC for 18 months.

Anyway, it's good to share this with all of you and hopefully there will be BFP news :D

Jenn, I took progesterone suppositories at the beginning of the year when we did our controlled ovulations. The reason that I have been given them is because of the spotting that I have on the second part of my cycle, they think it's caused by lack of progesterone. I didn't have spotting during the months when I took the suppositories. I've also been told that I will have to take them for the first three months, probably to keep my levels up I guess. I don't know about other medications lowering my progesterone, I'm trying to do this with as little as possible! I have been having acupuncture since last August and Chinese herbs and yesterday my doctor changed the herbs to support the IUI. She's told me to have lots of stews made with bones for strength and to eat as much food hot as possible, not too much raw as it lowers your body temperature and makes your womb cold.

Which leads me to another question!
Are you doing anything more than usual because of the IUI? Taking particular supplements or eating particular foods?

hi jane

i am so sorry AF showed up....damn!!!! but - on the bright side - that is one more day closer to the iui and a BFP!!!!!! :D i know it is easy for me to say - i am going to be a mess when the iui time gets closer.

but we will do great :D

i know what you mean - as little drugs as possible. my DH is very nervous about all the medicine i will be taking - he is the type that doesn't even like to take asprin.

i am not looking forward to the suppositories - but hey - if it will help - then i will do it :D

that is very interesting about eating hot foods!!!!! they didn't mention anything to me about changing my diet or adding things to it - i will ask them. i need to eat better anyway - i eat such JUNK!!!!!!! and drink way too much coffee.

i am so glad we all have each other - this will be a great summer for us!!!!

hi ladies
hope everybody has had a good day.
jenn, it is my 1st round of chlomed, so everything is new. on the subject of the progesterone, i have heard it lessons the chance of miscarriage.
Leezo, wow 3rd round, definitely 3rd time lucky.
Jayne, well trust af to arrive as usual. but on the positive side the sooner you can start the better. for me the waiting is the worst.
part of me is anxious to get started, but the other part is nervous. it is like setting yourself up for disappointment.

so nice to have someone to share with.
well ladies chat soon. have a lovely evening, hope we all have big round bellies soon.

I have just realised that we are all in totally different countries but our treatments are all so similar.
I have my first ultrasound booked for Friday morning. The nurse said that this is our third IUI as we have had two already with medication and sex. I'm counting this as the first as someone else will be in the room with us this time :D.
Have a good weekend,
Jane

Thanks Kerian,
Was at acupuncture this morning and will have it again on Thursday. They have prescribed me Chinese herbs especially for the IUI and I'm trying to eat really healthily, (would love a cup of coffee tho' :D). DH even went without a beer at Sunday lunchtime yesterday (and then kept moaning about it!!).
Acupuncture helped this morning as I was feeling really depressed about the whole thing and just wanted to curl up into a heap and cry. Feeling more positive now. Good job I'm not taking any meds yet, my mood swings are doing quite well on their own :D .

Hi Kerian,
The acupuncture has definitely helped me sort AF out. The last one was pain free and lasted just three and a half days :D The acupuncture hasn't helped me get pregnant so far but they are working on strengthening my body and warming up my womb. The Chinese herbs and the diet advice have really made a difference. Hopefully with everyone's help we'll get that BFP :D
How's the waiting for AF going for you?
