Tongue tied and speech theropy

Don't know if anyone can help.

Joshua is tongue tied (quite bad) and is being referred for speech theropy. All he is saying at the moment is a mmmmama sound and lots of happy squeals etc He will be two in nine days. He takes everything that is going on, on board and is really clever.

We are currently in the middle of moving from Coventry to Birmingham so not sure if the referal will go through in time for the move. Not sure what will happen when we have moved and how long we will have to wait for a 2nd referral etc

So with things being unsettled at the moment can someone tell me the sort of things I should be doing to encourage Joshua. We always knew he would probably need help. I read him stories at least 12 a day (we all know the Gruffelo and Room on the broom from start to finish) and talk to him all the time even when we go for a walk to the extent of telling him different makes of cars and year built etc (there are only so many ways of pointing out trees!!!) So he is getting lots of different sounds etc Any ideas what else??

He is going to have his two year check at home so will have a lot of things answered but in the meantime....

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi Jackie,

I'm a speech therapist. The best thing you can do for him is to get his tongue clipped. All the therapy in the world will not help until he gets that lingual movement. I would suggest getting his tongue clipped and some therapy to work on some oral motor exercies and improve his language. Once he has that movement, you will probably see his language explode.

I have had a baby with the same and I had her clipped at three.We were on the waiting list till then.After she had a little speech therapy and now she is totally fine.I am glad I had it done.
