I forgot to ask how long I do the PIO injections and they didn't mention so I called the nurse yesterday. She said at 10 weeks of pregnancy. Their literature says your body kicks in at 9 -11 weeks and I've seen some people that wrote they went to 12 weeks? I'd like some feedback. I have just enough to get to 10 weeks and would have to order more to go further. (Not that I like the shots, but I don't want to jeapordize anything.)
My doctor has told me that I will most likely stay on the PIO for 12 weeks. (I am also on the vaginal dosage twice a day). However, they will continue to monitor my levels. If my body begins to kick in and starts producing sufficient amounts, then she will either lower my dosage or stop my injections depending.
So once again, nothing is really "set in stone". I believe that it is on a case-by-case basis as to how long they keep you on it...(And our insurance only approves a 30 day supply, so we order as needed).
I was on the PIO injection's for 10 weeks. When I asked my OB GYN if that was normally the time frame, he said the placenta takes over at 9 weeks, so 10 weeks is usually the norm. I am now 20 weeks pregnant with twins, so all was fine stopping at that time frame. But I too was worried at the time.
My RE had me on both injectable progesterone, vaginal progesterone suppositories and estrogen patches since the transfer. Last week Thursday was my last patch application (which I had been applying every three days and today was my last injection, but he wants me to continue the suppositories until my OB appt (and clearance from OB).
My dr has me on estrogen pills and progesterone vaginal capsules 3xday until 10 weeks of pregnency. With my last pregnancy, I was taking the progesterone until 10 weeks as well.

I was on the suppositories (400mg a day) and was told I could stop at 10 wk, being somewhat nervous and because I was told it wouldn't hurt (but wouldn't help either - except my mental state!) I dropped to one every other day between 10 and 12 wks and then stopped. So far 14.5 wks and looking good.
Good luck
