Hi, having had a few disappointing results with ivf and now with me aged 42 it seems our best route is trying donor eggs. I've just started researching on the net and it seems that Valencia and Barcelona clinics come up quite often as recommended. I would love to hear from anyone who has had experience of these clinics or from anyone who has any other advice to offer.
We'd also be interested in finding a donor in this country and like the idea of using a known donor. A dear friend has offered us her eggs which is tempting as she has the most gorgeous children but she is already 40 and we've been told that it would be too much of a risk at that age.
Any advice would be so appreciated - these are such big decisions and it's hard feeling so in the dark about it all.
Hi again Alison, just thought I would reply to you on this thread about the age limit in the UK. Unfortunately, the HFEA will not permit egg donation by anyone over the age of 36, so although your dear friend is willing the rules will not allow it. I guess it is because the older we are, the poorer the egg quality etc etc. See you on the over 40's again soon.

Hi Ali,
Have you thought about donated eggs in Brazil? It is cheaper, the success rates are encouraging (and the cost I think it is too. I did mine for eight thousand dollars including meds plus 1600 per frozen cycle) and you dont spend a penny on eggs. Women who cant affort treatment and do want to have babies are put on a waiting list and the doctors make the best match of physical characteristics.
I am on my frozen cycle waiting for my pregancy test.
Check other countries as well - don't give up. After 40 the chances of malformations is to high I gave up my genetic pride and went open arms to the donated eggs option.
Best wishes, Literatriz

1 BFP after IVF in Brazil (Clinic Origen, thanks!)
We have a thread going on the General Forum called Eggheads where all of us are using donor eggs. Four of the ladies are going to IM in Barcelona. Another lady, Anna, has already been successful there and has a little boy so she offers us advice. Plus there is another lady going to IVI in Madrid and two other ladies in the US - one with known donation from her sister.
Come and join us on this next stage of the journey.
Good Luck.
Carolyn
