12 week scan normal

Post by alison p »

Dear all,

Just to let you know that we had our 12 week scan yesterday and everything was normal. We also had the nuchal translucancy test and my risk went from 1 in 235 to 1 in 2008, which I was very relieved with.

It took a while to do the test as the baby was lying in an awkward position and wouldn't move despite the doctor banging my tummy repeatedly to get it to move! Obviously it's going to be as stubborn as his father! My stomach now feels very bruised as he had to push on my tummy hard with the probe for about half an hour!

We were both overwhelmed with how well you could see the baby - nose, feet, hands, etc. We also heard the heart beat for the first time!

I'm looking forward to the 20 week scan now,

Alison xx
Hey Alison,

Glad your scan went well - wow, you got to hear the heartbeat! That must have been so lovely. Wasn't it amazing to see those tiny little hands - i was just expecting to see a blob but it was so clear.

Haven't got a bump yet - what about you? I haven't even put on any weight which is why i was a bit paranoid!! I'm sure i'll start fairly soon.

Well done and roll on 20 weeks,
Much love, Lizzy xxx

Thanks!

Tracey - the hospital said that I didn't need a full bladder and in fact the waiting times at Kings are so variable - up to 4 hours! - that it would be impossible to hold on that long. I actuall had a drink before my scan and my bladder was so full that the doctor asked me to go to the loo and empty it!! Good luck for Monday.

Lizzy - I've put on a lot of weight, but I am on steroids and they increase your appetite. I have the start of a bump, but it starts fairly small in the morning and ends up huge in the evening, which is probably due to wind / bloating. There's so much going on down there it's difficult to tell whether it's the baby or just the food! I wouldn't worry about it though as the books seem to say that by around week 17 some people have a pronounced bump and some people don't, so maybe week 12 is a little early!

However I can't wait to look properly pregnant - although we'll probably be sursing it by the time we reach 40 weeks!!

Alison xx

12 week scan normal

Hi Alison,
Glad to hear everything went well with the scan, it's amazing isn't it! My sickness looks like it might possibly be getting a little bit better but i won't be convinced until the morning i wake up and don't have to stick my face down the loo! I am now 14 weeks and have a definite bumb which i am sticking out at every opportunity. We've booked a holiday to Majorica in 3 weeks time as a last hol before life is turned upside down. I'm going to speak to the mid wife this week about sun bathing etc, so hope it'll be ok. Are you going to any classes or know when we're supposed to start?
I have to confess i've lost your phone number - sorry! i finish work for 6 weeks in a week and a half so i should be staying up later and feeling more human so give me a call and maybe we can meet up over the summer.
Take care
Adey xxxx

Adey,

Glad to hear that your sickness may be easing up - I feel so lucky that I haven't thrown up once!
My midwife gave me the number for the NCT in Brighton - you call it and they will send you an information pack. She said to book early as they get booked up (I've just called now - thanks for reminding me). The number is: 707573 and I think that you start the classes around 30 weeks.
I'm off to see Des tomorrow at the Sussex - not sure why I need to go, but an appointment was made.
Lucky you having 6 and a half weeks off!! I've still got your number, so will call at some point - haven't quite got round to it yet like a lot of things. I was also wondering about sunbathing. I was out in the garden yesterday, but it was a bit hot. I know that you're supposed to tan quicker when you're pregnant, but I'm not sure how safe it is.
Take care and speak to you soon,

Alison xx
