Hope all is well with everyone. I am in need of advice. Is there anything i should so prior to the injection I have heard to ice the area and i have also heard heat to the area helps???? That just confuses matters I think im just going to do it without ice or heat ... Has anyone done either? If so please advise my first lupron injection is in the am.

Thanks a bunch
I am assuming you guys do this injection SQ (not IM like they use for birth control)? If it is SQ and you are injecting the abdomen I say pinch the skin (about an inch like). This is what I tell new diabetics at practice. Helps a bit as your skin has sensation elsewhere..

Kate21 - I think this is the only time we are truly happy to see that evil witch AF...keep us updated. I want all the first hand experience that I can get about FET (it may be on my horizon).

LisaPa - The lupron injection did not hurt a bit. I did the pinching thing in my tummy and never felt it go in...your sail through like a champ :) ! It's the evil PIO that I heard you should ice before the injection and use a warm cloth or heating pad after it. WOOHOO DAY 7 OF NO SMOKES...KEEP IT GOING...WE ARE PROUD OF YOU!

Tracey - I'll be sure to let you know about the scan. It does sound like you have good follies! I'll jot down my numbers so we can compare. I was a slow responder last time, so I hope mine are as good as yours this time around. Also, sometimes they can't see all the follies so you may end up with more than what you have now.

I think I have become a serious worry wart. I posted on the General page about...won't even whine about it now. I have an impromptu appointment today with my dr to put my mind at ease so maybe I will get to sneak a peak at the follies too....let you guys know later.

Best wishes to everyone one!

Hi everyone, have been getting very frustrated reading all your posts as most of you have all got started. Bugger, I am 3 days late, medications ready for go and AF not showing... Isnt it funny, most of the time we are happy when she doesnt show, but in this case definitely not as it delays everything. Im def not preggers because they did a u/s at the clinic last week showing I had ovulated and we have been careful. What a bummer! Ah well, at least I've been fairly relaxed so far and not stressing. As soon as I start the next round I guess it will all start up again. Anyone else in similar position? Good luck to anyone close to retrieval date anyway and hope all going well....

Hi, Ladies!

Sounds like a lot of us are starting our stimming right about now.

I'm starting tomorrow (Hopefully 07/07/07 will be a lucky day to start something new like this. I know, me and Eva Longoria).

I've been doing my Lupron shots in my thigh (with ice). It's been no problem. Has anyone tried both ways? Is it easier in the tummy?

I'm a bit nervous about starting the stims. I'm worried (because I'm neurotic) about hyper-stimulation, seeing as I'm also on Metformin. Has anyone experienced OHSS? Those of you who have stimmed before, how bad is it? Or not bad?

It seems like everything I read is so negative. I guess the docs all want us to know the possible bad side effects and horror stories. I'm just trying to keep in my the best possible side effect of all of this messiness - a baby! :D

Hope you all had a great holiday (those of you stateside) and everyone have a super weekend,
Jules

Hi there.

How is everybody doing?

TRACEY: Well done with no smoking!!!We are all supporting you.

Im not alright today :(
Well since yesterday to be honest. I think the side-effect of inj like mood swing hit me.....or is it the PMS?Im over sencensitive, spent last night crying, woke up very angry and frustrated like it was the end of the world.

This morning had i right go at my dh! :x All because last night when we were faving a family dinner he did not support me in something that i said.... That little thing just triggered everything and he is not that kindda husband who gives me cuddle when i need or a hug
I wonder why he doen't see what i need,when i need???
It is so frustrating!Feel so lonely

....ok i will stop here because i am ok for the moment but if continue then it will come all again....

Sorry guys for spoiling your weekend with this sad episode....

Hi Anie

I am sorry you have been suffering with mood swings but remember....You are not alone! They are totally normal. My husband told me last week he thought he might move out for 3 years when i go through the menopause if my downregging was anything to go by.

I think IVF is difficult for many men. There are of course the wonderful DH who really understand what you are going through. I know my DH really didnt get it until he found me crying in bed saying that life was awful. Then 10 minutes later I was up laughing and absolutly fine!

The thing to remember is that I am sure your DH wants to be here for you and probably isnt quite sure what you need. Why not have a chat over a glass of wine and tell him how you feel. I let my DH read my journal which I started at the beginning of IVF.....it lets him know where my head is at as we go through the process.

We are also all here for you too. You will get a huge amount of support from the fantastic women on this site.

How did those girls who started their shots get on today??

PS Anie: I cant take any credit - it is Lisa who has stopped smoking. (Fortunately, that's one bad habit I never took up!)

Have a great weekend

Good Morning Ladies,

Anie - I'm sorry you not feeling so hot today. The meds can bring on wicked mood swings. My husband calls me Ms. Sasha when I'm on them and he knows not to make any sudden moves/crazy comments. If I need a hug, I tell him! He would rather that than for Ms. Sasha to come around. To give them a little credit, most men are clueless as to what our bodies and emotional state go through. So, just do something that you enjoy doing alone and relax. Then go to him and let him know what is going on. I hope you feel better.

Julieboo - I never tried it in the thigh because I am a big chicken! But I read that other ladies have tried the thigh and it was ok for them. I'm with you on the concerned about OHSS. I'm on Metformin XR too but I talked myself off that ledge yesterday! Keep up the PMA and I will do the same.

Angela37firsttimeivf - hope AF shows up soon for you. Last IVF cycle, she didn't show for me. So, my dr just made sure my levels and lining were good and we jumped to the lupron!

cwrj00 - told you I would be a little behind you on the follies.....

As for me, I had my breakdown yesterday. I was so stressed about possible OHSS and work, that I gave myself an anxiety attack. I even called the doctor to schedule an early appointment yesterday. But once I got home and relaxed, I knew what was going on so I cancelled that appointment. This morning I found out how the stimm is going:

right ovary - 10 follies @ 10-12 mm
left ovary - 6 follies @ 10-12 mm
tons of smaller @ less than 10

So, my doc said that I am on the right track. I asked him where I should be compared to other ladies, he said that I shouldn't compare. The protocals, meds, and how each lady responds is so different that it isn't fair to compare. But to give an avg he said around 9 - 13 mm should be good at this point.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

Hello everyone,
I am new to this tread but unfortunately not to the whole IVF circus. I started my first one in April of this year and outcome was more than bad. Out of 7 follicles, they extracted 2 eggs. One fell apart soon, and the second one passed two sperms so that one wasn’t good either. My doctor calls me at my phone to tell me that, and just as a “by the way” tells me not to waste my money on trying to concave with my own eggs; I should rather start looking for an egg donor.

So, we changed the doctor. The new clinic didn’t have any new and good news, but at least they presented us with some options and suggestions.

1. I started going to the acupuncturist every week (since late April)

2. My doctor suggested taking 2 tablets of DHEA 25mg a day. He also mentioned that DHEA is controversial but he also heard that helped women with a quality of eggs.

3. I changed my diet regime. There is this book form Dr. D’Adamo called “Eat right for your blood type”- I tried it; it is not horrible (even though I had to toss all dairy, wheat’s, gluten and couple other things. I pretty much eat a lot of meet, green vegetables and dark red fruit. No alcohol, no caffeine, (quit smoking 3 years ago).

4. The biggest change is happening with my medicine intake. Last cycle I was on 250 IUI a day of Follistim. No Lupron,(some other meds). This time, my doctor pout me on 20 units 2x a day of Lupron (started on the 5th of July) and 300IU 2x a day of Follistim (started on the 7tt of July).

I had a first ultrasound on the 3rd of July, and before even starting any meds I had 7 follicles in my left ovary and 4 in my right one. My next appointment is on the 11th.

I hope that my info helped some of you, and for the rest I apologize for rambling.

Hey everyone!
I've been reading everyone's post and I feel like we are friends already. I'm new to this site but not new to IVF. This will be my second go at this, after a failed IVF in March. My MD stated that she could not give me a valid reason as to why I had implantation failure so I am really scared about going into this one. I start Lupron on Friday, 13th. I was wondering if I could join you lovely ladies on this journey...

Welcome aboard Croella - I'm so glad that you have a new game plan. I am a firm believer that we are in a partnership with these docs but we have the ultimate control and I believe in second opinions. Grow follies grow!

Tracey - my next appointment is tomorrow too at 8:00 a.m. So, I will let you now in the morning. I hope I am far along that they can let me know about ER. I can tell you that I fell my ovaries aching and I told DH that I feel like a hen LOL!!!
