Hi Caroline, brave old you!!

It must be wonderful to still ahve eggs. In one way its nice and easy being a dried up old bird like me, no chance of over stimming, no egg retrieval etc, but it is also the reality of being menopausal that hits - my FSH is 107 b4 tmt, and even after this long protocol I am doing, 4 weeks of oestrogen stimms b4 starting Progesterone Iv, there isn't a sign of ANY activity in the ovaries

I know that's perfect for the FET, anything else would bugger up the cycle but it stills is a paradox, having a baby and after even being able to breast feed 4 6 months, then urgently back on HRT because I become such a cow and all membranes dry up (eyes, and of course sex is painful) and the risk of osteporosis...grrr am resigned to it but it makes me feel old sometimes.

good luck with your tests dear, when are you hoping to cycle???

Hi BigJ

I have my day 21 progesterone blood test in mid July and depending on results would hope to start a fresh cycle at the end of August. The new clinic will only treat up to age 45, so I will be 46 in December which I guess will be our cut off point.

We have discussed a cycle with donor eggs but as I already have DD with my own eggs, we have decided not to go the donor at present. We can revisit this subject at a later date depending on the outcome of the next 6 months.

This 2nd baby is a different kettle of fish, as we have satisfied our paternal and maternal instincts and are above happy with DD. This is all about a sibling for DD and ensuring that we do the best possible for her. It will not be the end of the world if she ends up as an only child, but we would like to give it our best shot.

Hi BigJ and Caroline,

Although I am a new mother compared with you two, I am already thinking/worrying about the second because I am 44 and will be 45 in the end of August! Hopefully, by the end of the year, I should know what my frozen embryos are going to give me any luck - I still have 4 of them. Unfortunately, if they don't make it, I will need to travel out of town to find some REs who are willing to take women of my age for another fresh cycle - my history of 25 eggs produced in the end of 2005 can not convince my local clinic to take me, I can not believe it! My FSH was never higher than 8. REs sometimes can be so conservative.

Anyway, I can not agree with Caroline more, it is different to have already DD running around. Here she is.

What a lovely little girl!
Our sentiments are also to do the best for Joshi, especially as dh is an only child, his aged p's are in the their 80's, mine too and my sister (as you will all remember) is not my favourite person. Frankly Joshi would be fine for us, we are so blessed and I know that, I dont want to tempt fate. This FET is the only chance for Joshi to have a direct sibling, so in a way to go further will be similar to your decision Caroline as it would involve a new donor. NEway, TX is planned for 12th July now, and as long as we have at least one embie from 4 survice the thaw I will feel like a very lucky bunny to have a second chance.

Welcome back BigJ and Caroline! Good luck on your try for number 2!

DH and I have been talking a lot about trying for number 2, as we also have 4 frozen eggs (not embies). Since Andrew is only 4 months old now, I would need to wait so that the children would spaced further apart. It would be most difficult with a 1 year old and an infant!! We are leaning towards the adoption route now for our 2nd child. As many of you know, we were in the process of adopting from China when I became pregnant. I think it will be another 1.5 years before we get our referral. Andrew will be almost 2 years old.

Yasmina: Eloise is getting big! She is a beautiful girl !! Good luck on your try for number 2!!

Hi Julie! - good to hear from you. It doesn't seem 5 minutes since we last 'spoke'. Glad to hear Josh is thriving and you are going for no. 2. I hope your FET goes smoothly, will be thinking of you on the 12th. If you read back through this thread you will see I have 3 frosties but don't know if we will ever do it or not... that would very definitely be the last time if we did.
Anyway, we don't have to decide yet so we are not thinking about it (much)

Tomorrow is my 42nd birthday, hopefully going out for the day somewhere nice and hopefully it won't rain....

Hello to everyone else too and keep posting those photos, they all seem to be growing up so fast

Tammy, thanks. Eloise is more mature than her age. She swallows solid food like a pro now. My milk production comes back, it turns out that I was sick from allergy - had rashes all over every inch of my skin, yuck! took bunch of antihistamine which did not help at all for breastfeeding. I am fine now. Still breastfeeding, no worries.

Hi ladies,
still hanging in there during this terribly long 2ww -- which in actual fact will be "only" 12 days when I go for the blood test on the 12th...but still feels like an eternity in limbo...
But, I have to say, you are all so inspirational - seeing the pictures of your children and knowing that this can be done successfully after 40 - really gives me a nice little ray of hope.

Just sending you ane xtra big hug amy, keep believeing and send lots of Positive vibes to your little implanting bean in your belly!!! I listened to wonderul relaxation music in my 2ww and I still use that same music now for Joshi to go to sleep. I just bpought him an mp3 player and mini speakers so he can have the music in Kiev!!! Our FET is 12/o7 if we are lucky enough to have some embies survive the thaw so I'll be thinking of you testing.

Kat - just a big hug, you are really brave, and somehow I just know one day you will get there, it's just the hardest road. I think of you more than you know.

Meds going fine, great to be full of girlie hormones again! Joshi 11 months now, has his first tooth at last come through. Our bats (we have a colony on the barn side of the house) seem to be disturbed so will have to get the specialists in. They are so sweet, just wierd that they are suddenly hanging on the house not in their hole.

I’ve been under the weather since getting back after the weekend and AF is tormenting me by not turning up.

Never been more than a few days late, but sorry ladies, I’m not preggers. I did a HPT last week because I just couldn’t bear to hear DH keep saying “Think positive” and “Wouldn’t it be great if…”. I’m now 13 !!! days overdue and still no show. In fact I’m getting hot flushes at regular intervals all day, which is really starting to freak me out, so I suppose there’s some big hormone mix-up. I’ll be getting my blood test results (prolactin and thyroid) from my GP tomorrow and have made an appointment with my local gyn too. In the meantime I can see my transfer date slipping well into October and can’t get my schedule confirmed until AF turns up. But enough moaning now…hopefully I’ll know more tomorrow.

just writing in to report - BFN on our 2nd try. A sad, sad day for my husband and me.
thanks for all of your encouragement and caring words. It really helped not to feel so alone.

We feel very good at our clinic and want to try again if they still think I'm a viable candidate --
I realize that there are a lot of factors that determine if IVF will work or not - but still - any concrete words of advice, do's and don'ts that you can pass on to make the 2ww a more positive one would be greatly and seriously appreciated.

Wishing you all the very best. Hoping all went well for BigJ today.

By the way, Sonia I live in the southern Black Forest - so we aren't far from one another. Where are you going for your treatment?

BigJ, I hope your transfer went smoothly today.

Amy, I am so sorry, I remember clearly when I got my first BFN result I was sadder than my husband who was extremely optimistic and believed BFN was only temporary. That made me angry since I did not know WHICH PART of the process went wrong and I needed to know WHY it did not work so I could do better next time. We consulted our RE and our Embryologist, all they could say was to increase the number of embryos to transfer. We did 6 and only 1 became Eloise – that made me believe at my age, we don’t have to worry about multiples! My RE said that he’s never seen anyone in his clinic at my age with a twin. I had a friend who did ivf in China with 3 embryos transferred and got twin boys, but her entire family has twins, although others are naturally conceived. So, since you are asking for advice, the only thing that I can say is: luck and numbers. If your family does not have multiple preg history, ask your RE to transfer AS MANY AS he can. 6 to me is amazingly hi number, if I had not failed the first time with 4 embryos transferred, I would never have let anyone to transfer 6. Keeping in mind, however, that if you do 5-day transfer, higher numbers may be riskier than 3 day, the theory is that if they make it to 3 days, they likely survive to the end. Also, 5 day transfer has higher implantation rate.

Tammy, Eloise sleeps through the night quite long time ago, between 6~8 weeks. But not long after that I started feeding her in the middle of her sleep with her eyes closed due to my breast fullness, which gave her a bad habit of eating in the middle of the night. Silly mother I am, Now, I have to feed her once at 4 am or so.

What a nice name you have -
Thanks very much for all of your advice. So nice to see that after a number of negative tries, that you recently had a baby. Fantastic!
Unfortunately, I live in Germany and go to a clinic in Austria where they have rules about how many embryos they will transfer. The maximum might be three -- but so far, the first try at IVF w/ICSI we had just one 3 day transfer. Then tried a new clinic and were able to transfer 2 at 5 days -- we thought we might have some luck, but unfortunately, it didn't work again --
I don't think we'd consider going to yet another country like Spain or Belgium, or even Kiev like BigJ, where there are other options, but just
hope to hear from my doctor today about what he thinks about us trying again for lucky number 3. -- Since I don't seem to get big numbers, I'll have to rely on luck, I guess!? Keep your fingers crossed for us.
