I will be doing a FET (frozen transfer) in late September/early October. My first IVF cycle in March of 2007 was cancelled because of OHSS. I wish you the best of luck. Maybe we can keep in touch.

Hi meggs!
I am nervous, not so much about the procedure but as to whether it will work. We have alot riding on this cycle and it is costing us alot of money out of pocket since we do not have insurance coverage and are using DE.

So far....I've had 3 early m/c's and a chemical pg all conceived naturally. All m/c's occurred before 8 weeks and never saw a heartbeat on any of them. Then we decided to do IVF w/PGD after our fertility workup to weed out all the normal embryos from the chromosomally abnormals ones. Well, we wound up cancelling PGD on Day 2 because we only had 4 embies that were 2 cell stage on Day 2. 9 eggs retrieved, 7 fertilized, 3 had 3 pronuclei (abnormal) and 4 appeared normal. We did a 3 day transfer and transferred 1-7 cell Grade B and 1-5 Cell grade A (excellent) which ended in a BFN.

So we chose to do DE from this point on due to recurrent miscarriages and more than likely, poor quality eggs. I am 36 and will be 37 in a few weeks. DH is 34.

Is this your first IVF cycle? I'd be more than happy to answer any questions that you may have.

Good luck to everyone!

I will also probably be starting in September. We have our consultation on Thursday hopefully we can cycle together. We will be doing ICSI. I am also very scared. This might be our only chance at this because we only have enough money at one try after that if this doesn't work we will have to wait it out another year to get our finances together to try again. So i really hope it works the first time. Good Luck to all of you.

Thank you, it seems that you have been through alot already I will pray for you too. It is so horrible that insurance does not cover any of this stuff. I wish that it did the whole process would be a lot less stressful. I can't wait till the appointment on Thursday to get all the dates together. I really hope that we can start in September.

Thanks Again,
Amy

Thanks Amy. Yes, its been a very difficult journey for us. Insurance can be such a pain. I was lucky though and had my last and only IVF cycle covered even though I am not in a fertility covered mandated state. It maxes out at $10K lifetime so our 2nd IVF cycle will not be covered. Only my testing, b/w, u/s and fertility meds. I'm even lucky to have some at this point.

Wishing you lots of luck on Thursday!! KUP That would be cool if we could cycle together!!

Hey guys-I am nervous about alllllll of it, medications, procedures, success, etc.....I am 26 years old and have had 3 tubals in the last 2 years, so i look at it in a positive way that we have had the success of getting pregnant, its just not so much in the right spot.....
They removed my right tube with my last ectopic, and had an HSG done to find that my left tube has partial blockage-so that leaves us here where we are today waiting for AF so I can start all these crazy medications.
I LOVE my new doctors office-they're all super nice and can tell they really care about each indivisual so that makes this easier-my RE told me that Im a "poster child" for IVF and gave me a 60-70% chance of this being successful so we're crossing our fingers and everything else that can be crossed as well. I would LOVE any advice you can give me, maybe a little insight about the egg retrieval would be great-thats what seems to be making me most anxious i guess-i heard it can be painful???? thanks so much girls-Im so glad to have met ya!

I may be doing a cycle in either August or Sept. I have switched clinics and have to do the testing all over again--I would have had to do the testing again anyway as my first 3 IVF cycles didn't work. Then I have to wait until the insurance approves it. I live in a state which mandates that this is covered. And my insurance is from the neighboring state which also requires that this be covered, but at a better rate. I am hoping that the testing and insurance approval goes o.k. and that I will be able to start in August. However, if the insurance drags its feet, then I'll have to wait until Sept.

It can be stressful, but I will keep my fingers crossed for everyone that all goes well and that the end results will be baby!!

Best of luck.

I was just wondering if any of you that have done this before know what to expect at the first consultation. Do you think I will get some kind of calender of how this will all play out or when it will start. Also what is the standerd protocal is it the Lupron, do some of you do birth control first. I am very confused on how many days I will need to get off from work, and if I should apply for Family Medical Leave. I quess I will probably get the answers at the appointment on Thursday but I am just so anxious that I thought some of you might know what to expect.
Thank You

Hi amy
I've done one cycle of IVF. If you have your first consultation coming up, your dr or RE will more than likely have to run all the testing on you first. That should take about a month, maybe less. Depending on how busy the clinic is, they should be able to give you a "rough idea" of when you could cycle. It may be about 2-3 months from your consultation appt.

There are a few different protocols. I was on the long protocol. I started out with BCPs and then Lupron. You won't really need that much time off. You will need ATLEAST ONE DAY for egg retrieval and ONE DAY for transfer. I took more days off but only b/c I had them to use. I would even recommended taking off two days for transfer, the day of and the day after. I don't think its necessary for you to have to take any more than that or go on FMLA.

Hope this helps!
Cathy

I know for myself, I've had 3 cycles so far. Before I do anymore, I will need to do more testing. I just had my period and pretty much all the testing I have to do is based around my period. Because I have to go through the testing again, I have to wait until my next period before doing anything--unless my insurance drags its feet. So, if you are in the process of doing the testing and your insurance covers this and you need preapproval, you probably won't be starting med until your next period

For the first three cycles, I did take birth control first then w/ lupron and folistom. Usually after I started the stim. meds my retriv. dates were different every time. This next time--if I get approved by the insurance company--I will not be doing birth control, so I am not really sure what to expect. My clinic did give me an anticipated retrieval day once I started the cycle. The first time, the actual date was the next date after the anticipated retrieval date. The 2nd and 3rd time it was about 2 or 3 days after the anticipated date. Your clinic may be able to give you an anticipated retrieval date depending on your med. They will usually tell you there is no guarantee it will be that date, but it should give you some idea about when it'll happen. (Usually depends on how you are reacting to the stim. med.) I had to take my meds. 2X a day at the same time everyday. I was told to take them 12 hours apart between 7 am & 9am and 7 pm-9pm. So, if that's the same schedule others have, conceivably it can be done before and after work.

My clinic told me that the day of the retrieval not to go to work or do anything strenous. I was told that I could go back to work the following day. Right now I don't work, so it's not an issue. they also said that the day of the transfer I could go to work, but again not to do anything strenous--if I could take the day off that would be better. (Again, I am not working so it wasn't an issue.

I think you'll need to take 2 days off of work. And if one of those dates (retreival and/or transfers) is on a week-end then that kind of takes care of work if you have a MON-Fri. job.

Good luck w/ everything.
