Post IVF consult

Post by mulligan »

Hi,

Just finished my first ivf cycle with a bfn. I have to set up a post ivf consult with my dr. and a fet consult before they'll give me any info on fet. What is a post ivf consult? Why do I have to go to one of these before they'll let me have info on fet? Don't they know that I don't want to wait anymore!!! :?

Have any of you been to one of these before after bfn? What is there to talk about?!!

Thanks,
Lauren

Hi Lauren,
I just scheduled mine for next week. I don't have any frozen embryos so will need to do a fresh IVF for round 2. RE said they'll review my case and talk over what changes he thinks we can make to have better luck next time. I have a long list of questions, especially about my endo and what role it might have played.

I want to get started again right away but I have to wait for 1 cycle. I'm getting my period today so hopefully it will be normal and I will have my usual 28-day cycle.

How are you feeling?

Hi Rockrat,

I'm not doing that great. I'm really bummed about my bfn. I just always thought that I had ivf in my back pocket if nothing else worked and now that ivf didn't work I don't even know what to think. It's just depressing. I just got my official bfn today and already I want to get started with plan B. AF got here on Saturday, but I usually have very long cycles because of my pcos. I have to wait until I get a surge on opk before we can really start anything and that can take anywhere from 17 to 40 days for me. I'm going to spend a fortune (again) on opk!!!!

I just can't wait until I don't think about my bfn as much anymore. Right now, it's all I think of. It doesn't help that I have so many pregnant friends, friends with new babies and two pregnant sister-in-laws!! It's just everywhere. I think about my failed ivf all the time. I just can't wait until I wake up one morning and I don't think about all of this. I can't wait to wake up and think, "I'm pregnant!" . I'm just really ready to get the ball moving with my fet.

Sorry to complain and rant so much, but my dh doesn't really want to talk about it anymore and not many of my friends even now that we tried ivf.
I've had 3 miscarriages before and having been trying for a year and a half now so I've had many disappointments. They are so hard in the beginning, but I also pull through and keep trying. I now I'll get through this too, but it just sucks.

Good luck to you with your next ivf. Maybe we'll be cycling the same time. I'll look for you!

Lauren,

The post IVF consult is really very informative. Especially at REACH - they are great. Your doctor will just talk with you about what he/she thinks might have happened to cause the IVF cycle not to work this time and some other options for moving forward (add'l tests, diff meds next time, etc.). They will work with you to meet your needs and help relieve your concerns. Take all your questions (if you have any) and get them answered. That's what this consult is for!

I have had one IVF cycle and two FET cycles with REACH now (in addition to 5 unsuccessful IUI attempts). My first attempt at IVF was successful, but ended in a m/c. Still waiting for the results from the last FET. I am very confident that we are at one of the best places in the country!

I'm sorry that your IVF attempt failed - I know that is VERY disappointing! But, hang in there. The doctors at REACH are awesome (I've seen them all now, several times) and they will take care of you!

Casper,

Thank you so much for responding to me- I love that you are at REACH too! I feel like they are really good and I know that they are on the cutting edge so I'm very glad about that. I think you're right about the post ivf consult. I do have a lot of questions and I can't wait to hear why they think it didn't work this time and what we can do differently next time. I tried to make an appt. today, but my doc is out of town until Wed. then they'll set appt. up. I go in on Thurs for fet consult and to sign all of the consents. i hope that I'll learn more about fet then.

How is it going for you? When do you do your hcg test? Best of luck to you!!

How was the fet? I hear it's easier than a fresh cycle. I have 6 blasts on ice and I'm worried about them surviving the thaw. My rn told me REACH has good stats on that. Did your dr. change your meds after your fresh ivf and first fet?

I also just wanted to tell you how sorry I am about your miscarriage. I've had 3 now and everytime I hear of someone else's miscarriage it just makes me so sad. It's so awful, but I'm sure that you'll get a bfp this time and go on to have a healthy pregnancy!!
