Poll- How many IVF cycles did it take you to get a BFP?

Post by jeneden »

I thought I would start this poll. Please tell us how many cycles it took to get a BFP, how many embryos you transferred, how soon you tested, and how old you were. It might help those of us going through our first cycle, hoping against hope that the first time's the charm!!!

Hey there!!

This was our IVF w/ ICSI # 1 .. Lucky number 1 - BFP!!

We transferred two grade 1 embryo's (the best)

I tested 10 days post 3 day transfer with a HCG combo test and got a negative at the appropriate read time (which was 3 minutes) The test said the results must be read at 3 minutes or it was invalid. There was no line at 3 minutes. At 5 minutes a line showed up. I thought it was an evap line. I was totally devistated. I did another one.. same test.. same thing happened.. so i assumed BFN.. The next day I went in for my blood test.. and got a phone call with Beta of 73 !! We saw one beautiful sac and baby on Friday 06/29

I am 26 years old.. DH is 30.. This is our first baby!!

Good Luck to you all going through your IVF cycle!! Don't lose hope and don't try to analyze every little thing. Ya just never know!! I had no symptoms other than sore boobs! and that started when I started the progesterone!! :) GOOD LUCk again!!

Hi Jeneden
I don't want to sound pessimistic or negative, but it really depends on the age of the patient. A sad and hard fact, but I think true. I am 36, to be 37 in August. I m/c 3 times, a chem. pg and a failed IVF cycle. They retrieved 9 eggs, 7 fertilized, 3 had 3-pronuclei (abnormal) and transferred 2 embies, 1 5 cell Grade A (excellent) and 1 - 7 cell Grade B. BFN . :(

If you look at the stastic rate, women in the age group of 35-39 have about a 30% chance of pregnancy. However, someone in the age group of 25-30 will have a much higher success rate, something like 52%. Which would really make sense why ttcnumber1 was successful on her first try.

Another factor to consider is your FSH level on Day 3. Even though mine was low at 6.1, we feel that I have poor egg quality. FSH is misunderstood and it does not necessarily mean that they have good quality eggs, but it could mean that there is a good reserve of eggs. Unfortunately, a good reserve will not result in a live birth, only a good enough quality egg will. All it takes it one though, so there is alot of hope in that.

You also do not want to home test before 10 days so the HCG trigger shot is out of your system. Anything before that could result in a false +.

Hoping you get your BFP !! Good luck!!

Thanks everyone for posting. I know the chances go down the older you are- I am 38 so I know I fall into the lower category. I was just wondering and hoping I might be one of the lucky ones!!!

Hi Ladies I was 26 for IVF no 1 and got 8 eggs, 4 fert, 2 trans(best quality) and 1 frozen. I had twins.
My one frostie didn't survive thawing process.

2nd full IVF 2 years later, 7eggs, 5 fert, 2 trans(best quality) fand 1 frozen. Got a BFP but started bleeding soon after. I had my 1 frostie (best quality)transferred 3 months later on a natural cycle and had my third baby.

My third full IVF 4 years later, 9 eggs, 7 fert, 2 trans(1 5 cell and 1 4 cell, best quality) and 2 frozen. Got a BFP but still very early days at the moment and am very nervous that I will start to bleed......lets face it having IVF is bad enough, but to get a BFP to only lose it is very frustrating and painful.

Goodluck to everyone.

Hi!

We are pg w/ twins on cycle one of IVF. Both DH and I are 33 and he had normal sperm. I have only one bad f-tube and naturally undeveloped eggs followed by a history of painful oc's.

We retrieved 49 eggs, 36 fertilized, and after 2 top grade and 1 med. grade were implanted, we froze 26 grade 1 embies. No HPT ever came back positive for me, not even the day before my beta. Then we got the first beta of 62 and now we are pg with boy/girl twins.

I know age is a big factor but I know so many women that are 3-10 years older than me that it worked for beautifully on the first few rounds. We are so lucky to have one of the best fertility specialist in the country here in our city and I know his wisdom was my gain.

Stay positive and treat yourself emotionally and physically well and I know you will increase your chances. Our minds have more power over our bodies than we often think. I should practice more of what I preach but I do believe it is true. Good luck to everyone trying and I can't wait to hear all the upcoming baby news! :D

Take care~

Hi, it took me 4 cycles to get BFP. I am 41, dh 49. 1st cycle IVF with ICSI - 2 good embryos transferred. 2nd cycle IVF with ICSI & assisted hatching - 23 eggs - 14 fertilised, 12 divided, 2 transferred and 10 frozen. 3rd cycle - FET, 4 defrosted, 3 survived, 3 good embryos transferred. I then had a natural pregnancy which ended in miscarriage at just over 6 weeks. 4th cycle - FET with assisted hatching, 6 defrosted, 3 survived, 3 good embryos transferred. Also had acupuncture on day before embryo transfer this time round. Got to wait until 25 July for Ultrasound Scan. Hoping all is going to be well. Will keep you all informed.

Good Luck and think positive!

Kimberly- Congratulations on your twins!!! After your initial beta of 62, can you tell me what your second and third (if you did a third) betas were. My first beta (13 dpo ) was 103 and two days later it was 207 (15pdo), which doubled but JUST!! I am a little concerned that it's not going up enough. The doctors are fine with it. Thanks!!

Thank you for the congratulations. We are thrilled! If I can recall correctly, my first beta was 62, #2 was 264, and I don't think I got a third one until a week or so later and by that time it was some huge number. I wouldn't worry as long as it is doubling every 2-3 days.

I'd say. . .CONGRATULTAIONS!!!! Enjoy the next 8 months or so because it goes by so fast!
Take care~
