this is so weird. I look all over online and it says no sex 2 weeks after embryo transfer but for some reason my doctor told me to avoid sex only for 3 days and iam confused. plsease let me know what you know about sex after embryo transfer.
Hi Leah
We were told there was no official line on abstinance but the doc did say there is a risk of infection if you do go ahead with intercourse. I think it is up to the individual but we have opted to abstain simply because I would be devastated if something happened and I thought I could blame it on having sex.
Best wishes for a successful cycle!
Tracey
Me 37 DH 37
IVF / ICSI Jul 07: BFP m/c 5.5 weeks
IVF #2 Gonal-F 225 May 22, ER 5 June: 5 eggs
BFP! TWINS!!!! One baby stopped growing at approx 9-10 weeks.
DD born Feb 09!! Little miracle!
I was told to abstain from intercourse until I get a positive pregnancy test, and then possibly longer. The RE said that seamen as well as orgasm could cause uterine contractions which is undesirable. But I've read other ivf protocols online that only have you abstain for a few days or a week. We're just going to hold off, like Tracey said, better safe than sorry.
My clinic said to obstain for the 2ww and then until the ultrasound if pregnant.
I've seen alot of different things, but after everything it took to get here, we waited. As others said, I would have been devastated if I had a miscarraige and we I thought there was any chance we could blame it on sex (even though I seriously doubt it).
my doc told me no sex for the 2ww, after the pos preggo test he said no sex for the first trimster due to the contractions your uterus has after an orgasm so for me its until i clear the first trimester... but hey if that means keeping baby safe its fine by me

We were told no sex from egg retrieval until beta test. Then if the beta was positive then no sex until the Ultrasound. I suspect every clinic is different--if you are not sure that i would personally hold off on sex. BRidget
thank you all for the reply. that mean that my Doc. doesn't know what his talking about Ill take your advise girls. thank you so much.Good Luck to you all
My clinic says a week, but I personally don't have sex for a few months and even past the first trimester, by the time i deem it safe I'm showing, by which time my husband thinks we'll be disturbing the baby bobbing up and down and things!!
ME 33 & DH 38 unexplained infertility.
1st full ivf jan 2001 - twins. 1 frostie - didn't survive thawing
2nd full ivf March 2003 - preg but m/c
1 frostie - fet June 2003 - baby born March 2004
3rd full IVF May/June 07 - BFP - born Feb 2008
My RE said no sex during 2ww, after BFP he told me to continue to refrain, then at the 5 week visit he said no sex until 10weeks! I imagine that I am high risk since I'm 37 carrying twins, so others probably don't have to abstain as long(lucky you!)
They say it is ok to have sex. I said NO way as I didnt want to ruin anything. I didnt want to take the chances but they told me it was ok..
All this work I didnt take the chance for something to go wrong.
Good Luck
