Symptoms of pregnancy in 2ww?

Post by bowser »

Hi folks, DH here! I'm slowing getting to grips with some of the abbreviations here!

My wife and I are currently in the dreaded 2ww (see, there's another!), she had 2 embryo's put back in (grade 2, 1 is the best) on Monday and we go back to test next Friday.

This waiting really is a nightmare, especially as one of my close friends has just phoned to say that him & his wife are pregnant......

Anyway, my wife has had no bleeding, a slightly sore back (although she claims this is from all the lying down she is doing!) and today she has some light cramping (similar, she says, to getting her period).

Should this worry us? Is it good or bad or inbetween?

Also, we were wondering about the possibility of doing a pregnancy test prior to attending at the hospital - where would be the best place to buy one from (is it simply a normal pregnancy test?) and is it wise to do that?

Any advice & support GREATLY received!

Hi there.

Based on posts on various websites including this one, everyone says that symptoms in the 2ww are the same as if she were expecting her period.

She can test with a normal store bought pregnancy test around 14 days past ovulation (in the case of IVF would be egg retrieval day). Some women see a positive earlier than 14 days, but I wouldn't test earlier than 10 because she could get a false positive from her HCG shot she had before her retrieval.

Good luck.

Hello there..

We completed our first IVF cycle in June.. during my 2ww all I had for symptoms was cramping and sore boobs (but that was from the progesterone injections).. so sounds like her symptoms are promising..

As far as the HPT's.. I am anti-hpt.. I took one on 11ddays past 3 day transfer and it came back negative.. so I was devistated. I went in the next day to get blood drawn and the nurse called and it was positive.. I'm now 8 weeks and 5 days!!

Its all a personal choice.. The test I had was also a crappy one I got from work.. If you get a decent brand I'm sure it'll be fine! EPT or Clearblue..

Good luck.. :)

Hi there,

I know how hard it is to wait 2 weeks for your sentence! But hang in there!

Like andrea2251 said, HPT is not really accurate if hCG shot was involved, because it takes about 14 days for it to leave your system.

My clinic gave me a list of things I should avoid while waiting, including "the overly fertile friends". Avoid those people during the time you're waiting! Apparently the body signals are not really predictive, so don't even think about it - again, I know it's close to impossible - and just wait for 2 weeks then you'll have the answer. Good luck to you and your wife!

I always hpt 7 days after transfer and every time its negative, however I then know that the hcg is out of my system.
I then test more or less every day after that up until my official test day! you could say I'm addicted to hpt's I suppose.

Anyway day 8 onwards I got positive results, on both a crappy one and a clearblue digital test.
I think it really is just a personal thing that you and your wife will have to decide on.

Goodluck and let us know how you get on with it all.

Hi all,

I just read all of the great writings. We to are in the dreaded 2ww. This coming friday is out day. I feel just like I am going to get my period at any moment. My boobs are so tender and sore, I am crampy, and very emotional. My doctor did an HCG blood test last friday to see if it would show anything, but of course it didn't, so my mind was sort of made up that this cycle did not take, but I have to keep positive. Who knows what will happen. Best of luck to all of you!

I am also in the 2ww period. I feel crapmy like i am getting my period. Friday is my date to test......In my previous ivf's, I checked with a hpt. THis time I'll let my husband get the the result to shake up the rut we have been in for the past year or so with ttc. I send out prayers to all that have this same angst......cyndi

Cyndi,

Did the HPT show anything when you did them the last time? I want to do them, but am to afraid to be dissappointed. I don't know. My mind is crazy this days. You wait for these two weeks for that call, but then on the other hand I'm not going to want to answer that phone when it rings on Friday. I just pray that I don't start bleeding. If I make it past thursday without bleeding I would assume that is a good sign. Well let me know how things work out. Nice chatting with you and I'm sure I will be in touch.

I have frequent urination at nite too! I have occasional cramps.

kikimonky....I have done 1 ivf, 1 fet all with negative hpt. Spotting is actually a favorable sign. If you are on progesterone shots you may not bleed at all.

I get inspired with all these stories and hope to be a success also. Seems like there is a group of us all having a beta done on friday.

I have a question...I had 14 eggs retrieved, 13 fertilized, 2 good after PGD. They said that the best embryo dividing actually tested for a gentic abnormality. Can anyone comment on this? I had a 5 day transfer at blastocyst stage (beyond 8 cell) A 5 day transfer reduces the multiple preg rate (they put in two embies). It seems that if they can control it up to this point and it does not implant what is wrong with me? :?

As stated before, no hpt for me...I will wait for that phone call friday afternoon :) cyndi

BFN

Post by observer »

Hi Cindi,

I got a BFN on Friday too. Sorry to hear about your result. It is very difficult to accept after all the time and mental energy that went into it the past month!

I did have some symptoms like bloating and Bb tenderness, frequent urination for a few days... but they all decreased as I got closer to Friday. I wonder if implantation did occur for a few days... My AF was also a few days late.

Anyway, analyzing won't help now... will update everyone once we have a plan for what to do next.

Hi Cyndi,

I got my BFN on friday too :(
It is really hard to handle this. All that time and energy and for nothing. My husband keeps telling me it wasn't for nothing. We are trying out best and donig everything we can do in this process. I see and hear where he's coming from, but it still is hard. I have to keep thinking positive and keep my head up and go fourth.

Does anyone know how long you have to wait till try again?
