I had IVF about three years ago and now have a friend who will probably be having ET and EC next week. I've offered her my support and advice but my treatment was such a long time ago that I've forgotten a few little bits and pieces.
My friend has 20+ follies at present ( lucky girl ) but this is causing her a bit of discomfort. Now I remember being told to drink plenty of water but I can't remember during which stage of the treatment this was recommended and why you are told to do this.
Any help in reminding me would be really appreciated.
I haven't posted on this side of the boards for ages although I often take a peek to see how you're all doing here. I'd like to wish you all the very, very best of luck.
sorry kim --- can't help ya out on this one! not that far yet in my cycle.....HOWEVER - you should tell your friend to JOIN IN OUR CRAZINESS!!! As you know - it is an amazing place for great support during this whole process.....
aaww, good on you for supporting your friend....there's no better support than from someone who has gone through this themselves. anyway, they tell you to drink plenty throughout, but especially when you are starting stimms as to avoid OHSS. if she's got so many follies and if they're big too then she should definitely drink plenty. she'll feel bloated and she'll feel bloated even after the EC, after which she has to carry on drinking plenty. from what i can gather, after ET the empt follies fill up with fluids and it is therefore very important to keep your fluids up.
hope that helps a little bit....just keep asking questions if you/she have/has anymore!
and when you say you've not been on this side for a little while i assume its worked for you...in whcih case congratulations!!!!!!!
ICSI girl - not sure if you saw my post the other day but it looks like our timelines are the same....we have EC in the same week!! good luck!!

I really appreciate your help. That's what I love about this site - everyone will always help if they can no matter what stage of treatment/ pregnancy or motherhood they may be at.
I'm lucky to be a mum to 2 year old Thomas and you know what, hardly a day goes by when I don't think how lucky I am and when I don't take a moment to think about all the people out there still trying.
kim - its so lovely to hear that you are still appreciating what you have (after nearly 3 years!)....i'm hoping i'll be the same and i'm sure i will but its nice to hear. best of luck for your friend!

Water is good, but my clinic had me drink lots of Gatorade to avoid OHSS. I also stimulated well and after ER I was told to drink 8 oz of Gatorade every hour while I was awake and eat lots of protein to help reduce the risk of OHSS. These apparently balance out your system so you don't have as much water retention problems.
