Acupuncture? yay or nay?

Hi girls. I just failed my first IVF and am now gearing up for round 2. RE recommended acupuncture and I've actually just booked a consulation with one. Have any of you done it and had success? How often did you go? I'm not sure how I feel about it exactly because I just don't know that much, but at this point I'm willing to try anything! thanks for any advice.

sorry to hear that your first go didnt work. i did accupuncture with my first IVF and as you can see it didnt work.

there are lots of researches out there that show that accupuncture can increase success rates significantly and i believe it can.

having said that, i'm not going to carry on with accu this time round. my reasons for this are money, time, and also i found it quite stressful to try and fit in as well as trying to fit in appointments into my work schedule. i'm also scared of needles so the thought of going to accupuncture wasnt really one of excitement.

again, having said all that, once the needles were in and i was laid there, i was always that relaxed that i often drifted off to sleep. and i always felt great after!!

i guess what i'm trying to say is that it definitely has its benefits but that its a personal choice at the end of the day. to me, i did accu, gave up caffeine and alcohol and was good like that in every way. this time around though, i'm drinking caffeine and alcohol and am having no accupuncture. (although i have reduced caffeine and alcohol but just not cut it out completely). for me, it's better this way as it means i dont remind myself as much (before every time i wanted a cuppa and i couldnt i'd remember why)....so i'm just trying to chill out a bit.

gosh, sorry, didnt intend it to be such a long post. hope it helps a bit. i'd say, since you didnt do it last time, go for it! i think its good to change things from cycle to cycle, even if its just to make you feel like youve tried something different.

Thanks Shantala! I think I'll give it a go. I made an appt for a consultation. You are right about just feeling like I am doing something different. Best of luck in your cycle!! I'm waiting for my period to start so I can being bcps and hopefully get to embryo transfer by the end of September.

Hi there I just wanted to post back to you about the accu. I did 3 total cycles. The first 2 were BFNs. On my 3rd cycle I did try accupuncture. I started later than I would have liked due to an emergency removal of my gallbladder but did manage to go for the 3 weeks and 30 mins before retrieval 30 mins before transfer. It was a horrible cycle plagued with bad luck so hey that coulda been it...... Not sure but but I did get my BFP the 3rd time with it. Hope this helps.. Best of luck to you!!!!

I would highly recommend accupuncture, I did on my last treatment and it worked! Now the very proud mummy of a 3 year old, and going for tmt again, and will be doing acupuncture again too! I used to fall asleep and totally zonk out during it - can't be bad?!
