HELP!! Please, Has anyone out there had an ectopic?

Post by aggie94 »

:( I had a FET on June 26, only to be told at my first beta HCG that I was negative. I had my "period" and then had what we thought was a miscarriage. VERY painful, the whole bit. I've bled off and on since, sometimes heavy. Unfortunately, my beta HCG levels have not gone down (except one measurement) but have gone up as high as 681. I had another level taken yesterday and they are to tell me today if I will need a shot of methotrexate. I haven't bled in the past week, but last night I started having some low, dull pain in my very low abdomen and referred down my left leg, along with some dull low back pain. This is nothing like the extreme sharp pain with what we thought was the miscarriage.

I'm obviously VERY nervous...has anyone else been through this? What is the methotrexate shot like? How fast does it work? Does it make you feel bad? How soon after can you try and get pregnant?

Unfortunately, I am not of much help to you even though I have had an ectopic. Mine was quite different. My beta continues to rise slowly and my abdominal pain was so severe I couldn't walk straight or think. I did keep a heating pad on my abdoman and it eased the pain quite a bit. In my situation it ended in an emergency operation where they were forced to take the tube due to the size of the baby and I was close to rupturing.

Ectopics are a horrid experience and it really left me jarred. I never had the shot so I can't tell you anything about that. Did they do in internal u/s to see the ectopic in your tube? One thing I will caution you on and maybe suggest you discuss with your RE is how much they think it damaged your tube. After your tube stretches out there is a much higher chance for more ectopics to happen because the stretched out area can catch the embryos easier w/o letting them go. Sometimes it is better to take the injured tube.

I hope eveything goes well for you and if you need anything at all please feel free to write me. I understand how emotionally painful this is if nothing else. Take care of yourself and let people take care of you.

I got my level back today and it had risen to the mid 900's. SOOO, I had a methotrexate shot (two, actually) and await whatever is going to happen. They did an u/s and it showed some sort of mass on my left ovary...they're not sure if that is the pregnancy, or not. Still a mystery. I go back Monday for another beta HCG and then again Thursday. Hopefully my numbers will fall the required 15% between those days and I'll be on my way to having this behind me. I just picked up my script for percocet and pray I won't have to use it!

Thank you for helping me to feel better. What a horrible thing to have to go through...

I wish you blessings with your pregnancy!

Just wanted to let you know that Im thinkin of you! I had 3 ectopic pregnancies in almost a 2 year span (after lookin at it, i really dont know why something wasnt done sooner to prevent them-i guess im fertile, i dont know)....but my middle one was removed w/ the methotrexate-wasnt too bad was it? However when the methotrexate is used, it kinda sucks bc you spot longer afterwards.

the whole thing is something that I dont wish on my worse enemy. I think the worse part of it for me was knowing that you had a "successful" try at getting pregnant, and then it was just in the wrong spot. Pretty heartbreaking I know-however, request an HSG to make sure your other tube and the one that the ectopic was in is clear.....I think my dr kinda let us play with fire by keepin a go at it, and it was not so much a great choice...only to find out my other tube was blocked as well.

Good Luck to you! Let me know if you need to talk!

Etopic Preg

Post by srlegaspi »

Hi there! I have had an etopic pregnancy and I did have to have that shot. I had to have 2 because the first one did not work. It is an emotional roller coaster ride. Once the shot did take, I had a horrible period. The painful period was due to my body getting rid of the fetus that had been growing in the tube. Good luck to you and stay positive.
