Progesterone Shots!

Post by Faithinababy »

Hello ladies -

I was wondering if there are any more of you still having to take the progesterone shots. I am 8+ weeks and my doc said I need to take them till Aug 21 around my 12-13 weeks of pregnacy. The problem is that these injections are getting more painful everyday. My hubby was too afraid to give me the shots so I have an aunt giving them to me and she is afraid to give any more to me too. I am starting to get something that feels like balls and are painful. I know that is normal its just my muscle being poked every day but the pain is causing me to have lower back pain as well. Are there any of you out there suffering the same thing? My doc only likes the shots to hime they are much better than anything else. Just wondering if there is anyone out there with the same thing and maybe can give me some tips on how to ease the pain a little. My butt is black and blue from all the injections. But I do gotta say that it's all worth it finally prego with my first little peanut YAY!!!!

Congrats on being pg!!! This brings back so many memories!!!! I had the same problem. Balls of knots in the area I had the shots, black and blue, swollen, ect. . . I started to get the shot a little higher and it helped some. At nine weeks I went from one shot and one supp. to just the supp. at night until 12 weeks. Maybe your RE could let you do that at the end. I understand your body is making the progesterone by now but I think some RE's are just more cautious with their stopping time.
I also had hyperstimulation and couldn't tell what was the cause of some of my symptoms. My worst thing was the abdominal pain gave me insomnia for 2 months!!!!! Must have been preparing me for twins!

Best of luck to you and I hope you get some relief soon!
Take care and congrats again on your little one!!!!

faitinbaby, i understand exactly what you are talking about i am currently 7wks and 4 days and im still taking the pio shots. i too am having the same problem with the balls under my skin they hurt like mad! but i have to take them twice a day i dont have the back pain though, what i have found to help is after the shots but a heating pad on the places they have the knotts and slowly rub them out hurts like crazy but once the balls go away it feels better. i was also told i would be taking the shots until at least sept 24 which puts me in the same boat around 12 to 13 wks along so i hope you feel better! hope that info helps

well I have to give my wife the shots every morning and she is having the same symptoms. We are at 7weeks and 5 days, but hope we can switch to Supps later. I'm not sure if this has anything to do with it but she is 33 and it may change as she gets older

I did the shots(2cc) too from 3 days before FET until about 6 wks. I was in so much pain from it with all the knots in my buttocks and there were days when I can hardly walk. So my RE switched me to suppositories 3x a day and I had my levels checked yesterday at 7w2d and the nurse said my levels were great so to continue on until 10-12 wks. I didn't get the number but when I was doing the shots my levels were above 200. Anyway, maybe you can ask your RE to switch you. It's so much easier and no pain whatsoever.

Good luck!

Thank everyone -

I thought I was the only one with the problem and was freaking out. I did talk to my doc and they want me to take the shots. I just need to massage the injection are everyday. I am counting the days to get these over with. I also found out that my spinal is not very straight and that is another reason why my back is hurting but I am taking it day by day and just learning to deal with everything.

Good luck to everyone and GOD BLESS!!

our doc is telling us to stop around 9 weeks (we are 8.2 weeks) as my wifes placenta should be producing enough progestrone by week 9. We were sort of nervous to stop, but he says that's what he does to almost all.

I had a very sore tush and started to give them in the muscle of the upper outer thigh. They hurt less there as well! I would stick with the shots until at least 10 weeks. If you change to supp and miscarry you'll always wonder. The pain is totally worth it in the end!

Yep! I just got off my shots after 13 weeks preggers here. They do get worse-i felt like my whole hip was numb and uncomfortable to sleep sometimes! Its worth it though-keep them going until further notice. They are so important!!!
