Hi gang. I would like your advice. I am still hoping for a Summer Baby. But, I found out a day or so ago that I am supposed to go to Brazil for business on August 12 for 1 week. I was hoping to formally start the IVF process next week when aunt flow pays a visit. In order to go to Brazil, the CDC recommends that I have a bunch of vaccinations (Hep A, Malaria, Typhoid, Yellow Fever). Would you guys hold off on starting b/c of these vaccinations? Obviously I need to run this by the doctors, but I am getting worried about starting the process AND taking these vaccinations.

How would ya'll handle this? Do I have a real concern?

Hello and welcome! I believe that your doctor should give you this answer. Anyway, if I were you, I would start the IVF later.
Good luck!

I agree. I think even if my doctor says it is fine, I don't want to risk it. :( So now this means I will have to wait another month or so to begin.

I have great news!!! I discussed with my boss my concerns and medical limitations associated with going to Brazil. We have lined someone up to take my place. I went to my RE today and had my first ICSI visit. Me and DH did our blood work, and received the list of meds. I start my B.C. pills tomorrow, and begin Lupron on the 16th. If all goes well, I will be going in for ER around Labor Day. I AM SO EXCITED!!!

Hello, Jen!!!
When is labor day? Anyway, I wish you good luck.
I am not that well myself. The day to do the test is Friday.
But my lower back hurts a lot all the time. Yesterday I was very dizzy and I had nausea.I couldn't get much sleed during the night, because I had period pains that would come and go and very intense hot flashes. I also have a peculiar, somewhat metallic taste in my mouth! Disgusting! I am now sure that AF is coming and I wish it will come soon and get over with it because I am very tired and frustrated.

Hi! It's good to hear from you! I'm so sorry to hear about the pain your going through :( . Have you talked to your RE to see if this type of pain is normal? I'm not sure as I have not been briefed about what to expect during the 2ww but I didn't think the pain would be that severe. I guess I should read other threads on this message board to find out, lol. I hope you find some relief, maybe try using a heating pad on a low heat setting if you can (ask re first)? I wish you the best on your Friday appointment! I just know you'll have a BFP!!! Ps. Labor day is September 3rd. :D

Amy
Welcome to the group! I hope we can all be here to answer any questions you might have and to just compare notes. It seems like were all going through this together and I know I find it more comforting to have people to talk to who know first hand what your going through. :D

Question of the day...
How is everyone handling the ivf process and work?

Hi guys,
Looks like there are some new people so hello to you.
Update on what has been happening.
Had to go for my first scan today I was a bit worried as you are when it is your first time for anything.
They checked the lining which lined up and there a lots of eggs which are at a good size for now, so they said that all is looking well, so that is a positive and a bit of peace of mind. Have to go for a second scan on Saturday and of course bloods don’t forget the bloods. Then if all is well egg retrieval will be either Monday or Wednesday just depending on Saturday results and then we must do the triggering, wait and see. Also got given some other meds so we are stock up and ready to go getting a bit more nervous now as it is all coming together. Well glad to hear that everyone is doing ok. Keep you posted.
Take care xoxoxo

In regards to your question about IVF and work, I have decided to request leave beginning the week that I start my Lupron injections, through the transfer. The company that I work for is amazing. They have no issue with it what so ever. I am at the office now, and I have a hard time staying focused on anything but ICSI. I have one more week until I go on leave. So I am looking forward to only focusing on ICSI and our baby.

Your work sounds amazing! What a wonderful company you must work for to allow you to take so much time off. Are you able to use vacation time, sick time or would this fall in the family medical leave act? \

To answer my own question:
My work is not being so understanding about the time I'll need to take off. I did talk to my manager in May when I went for my consultation and made sure that the company was going to be flexible and she said that they would but now that were coming to crunch time she tells me she’s not sure if this is going to work. I'm more than willing to quit my job if she backs me into a corner but this is why I had the conversation with her in May and stressed the fact that I would need to take time off and I wouldn't be able to schedule it down to the day. My biggest concern is my hubbys testicular biopsy on the 17th. I wanted to take the day off using a vacation day to be with him but my manager say's to me "well it's not an appointment you HAVE to be at you just want to be there." Ummm, hello of course I want to be there :x ! Then she tells me she's not sure if she can allow me to take that day off (even though I have vacation time coming to me). I'm really starting to hate my job!

I am sorry to hear about your employer. That is a terrible way to treat an employee. I am taking sick leave (paid) for one week, then ST disability (paid) kicks in for another 3-4 weeks, depending on what my doctor recomends to the insurance company. If I want additional time, I have another 4 weeks of paid vacation taht I can take too. So I am basically getting paid to sit home and take care of me and our embies!!!

There are things about my job that make my life hard (travel and long hours especially), but they do a good job of valuing their people. I respec that alot about them.

Christine at least you have an employer that sounds much more accommodating then Jen poor thing I mean all this is very hard on us girls the husbands try and understand but really they don’t. I think that employers should really get a kick up the bum as I am sure you pull your weight and they should value that and respect you but I guess some are just plain heartless. Jen at least you have the right attitude that if they back you up in a corner you are willing to go I mean if they can not help you in a time of need then I don’t see why you should help them with your services. However sometimes it is easier said then done, don’t know if you are in a demanding field or not.

Jen don’t give up I know that it all seems hard and puts you down but you just need to think that your time will come infact all of us will be given that time. Never say never and never say that you can’t do this we all can as hard as it gets at times we can all do this.

Alex hope you manage to subside your pain, did you get in touch with the clinic to see what they had to say and also what pain relief that you are allowed to take cause I know with me now if I am to be in any pain the only pain relief that I am allowed to take is paracetamol.

On Saturday I went for my blood donation again and my scan lining is good lots of eggs different sizes some big some small so we are going to keep injecting for another two days and then Monday again blood donation and scans depending on those we should be able to trigger and we should be ready to rock and roll for egg retrieval on Wednesday which is what they have been saying since my last lot. Getting nervous but excited at the same time I guess it is a bit like those situations where you don’t know whether to laugh or cry.

Well hope you are all well take care xoxoxoxo

It does suck. The worst part about it is my manager and I started out as being friends outside of work. She and I have been friends for 10 years and co-workers for 2. I started working there before she was a manager. She knows of the struggles my husband and I have been going through to start our family so I would think she would be more supportive but she's thinking about the company first.
mum&bub2b
Thank you for your understanding. I'm really hoping that this is her initial "freak out" and when the time comes she'll be able to pull herself together and not stress me out  ! Maybe this is when it finally hit her that this is really happening, I don’t know but she needs to plan the work schedule a little better. I am a good employee and I think that's part of the problem, she can't afford to have me gone. Were about to lose 3 employees this month and we have a few others out on their scheduled vacation. Normally we don't have more than 1 person on vacation at a time but if I'm doing egg retrieval in September there won’t be any way around it; that means she'll have 2 employees out of vacation at one time. I told her this might happen in the beginning so she should have been prepared for it. My motto through this is going to be "not my issue" :)
How did your appointment go today? I'm so excited for you; I hope you'll be ready for egg retrieval on Wednesday! Please keep us posted!
My update
AF hit me Sunday so I called my IVF coordinator today to let them know. She called in my prescription for BCP which I picked up after work. I'll be starting them tomorrow. I'm so excited, were one step closer to our goal!!! :D
