mmmmm mashed potatos!!! im sorry your feeling so lousy. it was weird last night was the first time i actually ate more than expected i had 8 tacos hahahah. i want to thank you dixigal you have been so supportive and give such great advice when i know your going through alot yourself. your a strong woman and i commend you for that!. i hope your right about the seeing movement. i hope to see it soon. i was devastated for a friend of mine she was a week ahead of me she went in for her u/s and they didnt see a heartbeat anymore she was 9wks and 2days so of course i felt horrible for her and then worried for myself im coming up on my 9wk u/s on tues so now of course im going through all the what if's myself. but i hope your babies are doing ok and wish you well. i had my 8wk u/s last tues and i was 8wks and 1day, the baby measured 8wks and 3days so im assuming thats a good thing. im also curious about hearing the heartbeat when can you do that my fert doc hasnt given me a heartrate and i havent heard it so im hoping thats ok also. i think once i hit 12 wks ill be ok. but dixigal thank you soooo much again. your insight is great.

Hi -

I just realized there was a message board for those that are pregnant after treatment - what a relief! Congrats to all of you, as I know what a long, emotional road IVF can be. I'm hoping I can join your thread, as I too have many of the same concerns. I think I was truly happy for one day and then the worry set in. I think about people that find out they are pregnant and tell everyone and don't have a care in the world. Oh, what I would give to be that naive!

Well, here is my story - I am 7 weeks today - so of course, still freaking out that I could m/c. I had my first u/s last week. As soon as the doctor said he saw two sacs . . . "but", my stomach just dropped. Twin A measured properly and had a heartrate within range, but Twin B was 5 days behind in development and had a heartrate of only 102 - my doctor said it should be between 110 - 140 at this stage. He said we would just need to wait until the next u/s, but he said he was worried about Twin B. So, I'm trying really hard to stay positive. My doctor told me the good news is that if I loose Twin B it wouldn't have a domino effect. Although, I'm not giving up on Twin B. I'm keeping the faith and hoping the little one pulls through. If its a fighter like its Mom, I'm confident all will be well.

Well, the topic I really wanted advice on is morning sickness. Mine set in a few days ago - not good. I had been eating so healthy, lots of whole grains, fruits and veggies. Now the thought of eating a vegetable makes me want to gag. I was eating spinach everyday and now I can't even look at it. I forced myself to choke down a salad yesterday. The only things that go down, are things that are bad for me (salty, starchy and fatty) - pizza, grilled cheese, chips, french fries, fried rice, mashed potatoes. Now more than ever I feel like I should be eating healty and I just can't stomach anything. This morning was really bad - I had Kashi cereal with berries and some juice. I was thinking that at least I had a good breakfast, not knowing what the rest of the day would bring. Although, about 30 min. later, I tossed it all up. I just had lentil soup with pita bread for lunch and I think it is going to stay down. I was able to get my prenatal vitamin in too. I'm really worried that the babies are not getting the proper nutrients they need at such a critical stage of development. Should I be worried? Any suggestions as to how to get those healthy foods down?

Thanks for listening to me ramble - we haven't told anyone yet and my husband doesn't know what to do with me :) !

Hey everyone- I just got back from my u/s. The baby looks great!! It measured 1.27 cm and had a heartbeat of 160. My sister says that means a girl because the heartbeat is over 150. We all know that is a wives' tale, but it's fun to try and guess anyway. The doctor said my miscarriage chances are way low- 3-5%. I know I'm not out of the woods yet, but I, like Laurie, am going to TRY and stop worrying all the time and just enjoy this pregnancy. I have almost no pregnancy symptoms and he said to thank my lucky stars and that it was a strong pregnancy and not to worry about the lack thereof. So, today, I am HAPPY!!!!!! :D :D :D :D :D :D

carebear... you made me cry!!!!! LOL. I love this message board... it helps me a lot to be able to talk to everyone who is going thru either the same or similar stuff i am going thru. I know what you mean about worrying so much. I hear so much stuff and it IS scary having to sit so axiously waiting for that weekly ultrasound. Its funny.... i'm so scared every friday while i'm waiting to my appointment... then i feel relieved when i see the heartbeats.... then a few days later i'm stressing out all over again. LOL
I have a friend who miscarried at 11 weeks..... but if it gives you any consolation... the embryo actually stopped growing at 5 weeks.. but she didn't know it till she started bleeding. so... keep in mind that most m/c happen earlier than people realize... ( no i know its not always that way... but in most cases a mc at 11 or 12 weeks actually occurred much earlier....)
fmj welcome to the board.... we all know what you mean about just wanting to be care free with your pregnancy. I'm sorry to hear about twin b. I'm having twins as well and i'm a nervous wreck ... i want them both so badly. Your doing the right thing to try and stay positive. someone on another board i think was having the same problem... and they went so far as to tell her the second baby was not going to make it... then two weeks later she went back and there they were... two perfectly healthy babies.
I have had horrible nausea myself and like you its been cheese pizza, mashed potatoes and grilled cheese. I read in one of my pregnancy books that in the first trimester if morning sickeness is causing you to eat less or not as healthy as you would like.. not to worry because your baby's placenta hasn't taken over completely and their nutrient intake isn't near as high as it will be in later months. thats not exactly what it said but something to that effect. so don't worry yet about it. I finally seem to be less nauseated now but from pretty much conception till last week i was so sick i lost several pounds. Just make sure your taking your vitamins and if you start losing weight check with your doc.
what seemed to help me a little was small amounts of ginger ale ( its really bubbly so more than half a glass seemed to make it worse) and i snacked on peanuts and grapes in between meals. ate grilled cheese or scrambled eggs for lunch and dinner. Also v8 has a new fruit juice out called v8 fusion. its got a full serving of veggies and fruit in 8 oz. I try and drink one or two glasses a day. ( i can't stand the tomatoes kind but the fusion is delicious... blueberry pomegrante)oh... and try taking your vitamin right before you go to bed.
okay.. now that i wrote a darn book again i'm gonna go. oh.. by the way.. my 8 year old daughter started the 3rd grade today and i'm missing her so much right now!!! i swear she's growing up to fast. and such a huge help she has been while i've been on bedrest. It sure is lonely without her here !!!!!
everyone have a wonderful day!!

dixiegal1-

Thank you for the warm welcome. Congratulations to you on your twins - very exciting. I'm just patiently waiting for my next u/s. Your story was very encouraging - I like those! Unfortunately my u/s it isn't until Aug. 20th - at 9 weeks. I read about all these other people going for weekly u/s and I'm jealous. My doctor does one at 6 weeks and then the next around 8 or 9 weeks. I'm just frustrated I have to wait so long for an update.

Thanks for the advice on the morning sickness. I'm definitely going to stop at the store on my way to the office tomorrow. Although, I did get some veggies down today . . . . they were in my fried rice. Good thing my nutrients aren't totally essential right now.

Take care.

dixiegal1, I too have been nauseated. It really just got bad the last couple of days. I find just lying down for a few minutes helps, but I am going to try the ginger ale trick too. I still have an appetite and am trying to eat as much as possible without getting sick. I had a really difficult time eating with my last pregnancy, so I'm talking advantage while I feel good. I also had bleeding in my last pregnancy with twins. It didn't start until the end of my first trimester. At first it looked like blood clots, but then the perintologist said it was abruption of the placentas. Needless to say I was on bedrest after that. I do have what looks like some blood in my uterus this time too. Since it can't be the placenta they think it is either blood from the implantation, or the third embryo that didn't make it. It is right near my cervix, so my doctor told me to take it easy. I know a lot of women who had bleeding in their first pegnancy and things were fine. So stay positive and know it is not uncommon. I have another ultrasound this Thursday. I am excited and still scared. I have a lot of mixed emotions about being pregnant with twins again, but I did read the web page about the woman who just gave birth to quintuplets. She made it to 34 weeks and her babies seem huge compared to Miles and Avery (my twins). If she can do it, I can:)) Thanks for your encouraging messages. I enjoy reading them and it is comforting to know that there are others dealing with the same crazy roller coaster of pregnancy.

heather, i'm glad you told me thatIt makes me feel a lot better. It helps to be reminded that others have gone thru it and everything was fine. my nausea is definitely getting better and i hope it does for the rest of you as well. i'm kinda wondering if it had anything to do with getting up and going .. or if its just coincidence that it got so much better now that i've been on bedrest. yesterday i went to the school to pickup dd and i got a little ill feeling ... probably just my imagination. LOL

fmj its got to be driving you crazy that they are waiting so long to do another ultrasound.... its bothering me LOL.... just remember its gonna be fine.. and all that nausea is proof that its a pretty darn healthy pregnancy.
jeneden thats wonderful news!!! i'm pea green with envy!!!!!!! LOL you take care and enjoy it!!!

dixigal, awwww im sorry i didnt mean to make you cry i was just expressing my grattiutde....long post coming!......
i had my 9wk apt today and things with our baby couldnt be better, at our ultrasound im 9wks and 1day but baby is meauring at 9wks and 2days i must say i have a big baby!! today on the ultrasound which i also got on video, baby was moving around and my doctor pointed out everything his/her hands, feet, facial features his/her brain and even got to see the umbilical cord which is attached to the placenta. the heart is still fluttering away and things look great. next week i get my blood drawn for the first trimester prenatal testing, they are doing blood work and then 2wks later doing what they call a nuctual lutency ultrasound which is all testing for down syndrome. my doctor said not to worry though they do it in all frist trimester pregnancies now, they use to do it only in women of 35 and over but they check everyone which im fine with he also said its nothing i should be concerned about cause its not in my fam history or my hubbys so its just routine and im ok with it. so far all bloodwork and ultrasounds have shown baby being healthy and right on schedule so for once in my life im calm. i also learned that i will be leaving my fertility clinic in 3 weeks when i hit 12 wks the first trimester isnt considered over until the 14th week but he feel its time for me to "graduate" so to speak and move on to my ob/gyn which also means NO MORE INJECTIONS WOOHOOO!! but it also means that my ultrasounds and videos will stop, its kinda sad because they are great people but my pregnancy is progressing beautifully so it will be soon time to move on, and only get an ultrasound maybe once a month im not sure yet. because of past history im considered high risk so i think i get seen more often but ill find out on the 29th and of course keep you all posted!! so things on this end are really good i feel great, my babie's healthy and im coming up on my 3yr wedding anniversary in 2 1/2 weeks so things really couldnt be better!

i hope all you ladies are soing well and have a great day!

I had my 8-week appt. yesterday. I was released to my OB at six weeks so it was the standard first check-up appointment. I guess since I have had no problems thus far, they do not forsee any. The coolest part was the doctor put the Doppler (heartrate detector) on my stomach and said, "I don't expect to hear anything this early, but we will give it a try." Well within a few seconds, we heard a strong heartbeat and he was shocked. Baby must have been in just the right place. My next appt. is in 4 weeks and I don't get an ultrasound until 18 weeks!! It is really spread out this time. I hope I can wait that long.

Brandi - Sounds like you are really getting great attention from your fertility doc. I don't know if mine is being lax since this is my second pregnancy. I am definitely much more laid back this time around. I do like to sleep a lot though!

hey you guys! Brandi that is wonderful news!!! I don't know when they will release me to my reg obgyn. at first it was going to be at 12 weeks, but that was before i had this hemmorrage or whatever. I'm anxious to get to her in a way because she is a high risk specialist and will have a plan of action so to speak, but like you i will miss the weekly scans.
Sher8 its great that your doing so well and hearing the heartbeat!!! how wonderful. I cant wait. It would drive me crazy to have to wait that long as well for another ultrasound. keep us informed on how your feeling!!!!
My nausea is back the last two days but at least i had a break for a few days before that.
I'm waiting for my mom to get here.... she is bringing several casseroles, a roast, and some potato soup and some crab and corn bisque!!!! yum!!!! dh has been working overtime trying to work , keep up with laundry and other houswork as well as dinner for me and my dd. sooo at least he will have a break for the next week!!! lol

dixiegal,

Please share your crab and corn bisque recipe if you can!?!? Sounds wonderful. The neat thing about being in your situation is that you realize how family pulls together in times of need.

Take care of yourself!

Hey ladies,

I am glad everyone is doing ok. A lot of twins here that is great. about 5 days ago I had some brown spotting when I was at work. I left home crying thinking I was m/c. So I called my RE and he said as long as it's not a lot, I should be ok. Just to keep my feet up and drink water. So I did that and next morning my spotting stopped. 4 days later I had my first OB appt. and they found heartbeat on doppler. I was sooooo excited to hear it and yet I was only 9w6d. So far no more spotting, but still very sick with nausea and vomiting.
I am still on Progesterone shots 50mg 2X/day. My question to you all is that, Has any one had dark red/ brownish spot measuring about 4 inches by 3 inches where injections where administerd? It is freaking me out. It is sore a little bit, but I am afraid that is not hemotoma or tissue damage? What do you guys think?

Let me know

Tajma- I would call your doctor tomorrow and have that checked out. Does it look like a big bruise? I have some smaller bruises on both sides, but nothing that big. I'm sure it's nothing major, but better to know, right?

I have a question for all those who have been doing supplements. I am on Estrace twice daily, one and a half ml of PIO, and baby aspirin. When I went for my appointment on Monday the doctor (not my regular doctor, but one in the group) told me I could stop the PIO injections and switch to the suppositories for the next two weeks. I consulted with my primary doctor and she said to do what made me feel more comfortable, so believe it or not, we are sticking (pardon the pun) with the shots. I feel like we've come this far, I don't want to risk anything. I even thought that after we get to 10 weeks, I may stop the shots, but switch to suppositories until 12 weeks. My question is this: When are you guys going to stop your supplements and what are you on? Am I being paranoid about stopping the meds? Any info would be helpful. THANKS!!

Jeneden- sorry to butt in- but I saw your question about the PIO and estrace and I'll tell you what my Dr. did. It might help to have someone a few weeks ahead of you share what they did! Congrats on your pregnancy by the way!

They took my blood every week after my pg test. At about 8 weeks they did offer to switch me to prog. suppositories, but like you I felt like why ruin a good thing! So, we kept doing the shots. At 9 wks. they stopped my estrogen patches and pills, at 10 weeks they switched me to every other night PIO injuections, then at 11 wks, I got to stop them altogether. I liked getting off of the shots gradually. That way they could test my blood after a week of every other day shots and by the next week, the levels were still rising so she knew I would be ok without them.

Just thought I'd share that with you. I understand why you would want to stay on the shots. Even though you probably never thought you would hear yourself saying "I want to stay on the shots!"

hope this helps! Take care!
Jenn
