Smellies??

Post by Debdun »

Hi Everybody
Congratulations first of all to everybody who has made it this far and my thoughts and prayers are with everybody else. I won't give my history just yet if that is ok as still trying to come to terms with my new condition! This website has been a godsend whilst going through our treatment and you have all helped in some many ways.
Now, I have two really, really daft questions! How do you manage to stop worrying about EVERYTHING (impossible I know) and second, are you allowed to use nice smellies (e.g soaps, perfume, body lotion), nail polish etc, etc when pregnant? I am used to my gorgeous stuff and the non-perfumed stuff is driving me up the wall but I wanted to be really safe as I can be a bit paranoid! I'm really sorry in the grand scheme of things it is a stupid, selfish question but I am driving my husband bonkers.
Thanks for any advice!

Dear Deb,
The bad news is that you don't really stop worrying about everything!! I guess only when you're holding a baby in your arms will it be real - and then you'll worry about them for the rest of your life!!
As for the perfumes, etc, I haven't stopped using them and I haven't read anywhere that they do any damage. There's enough you can't eat without smelling as well!!

Alison

Deb,

The only advice i will give about smellies is be careful when you are goingthrough the morning sickness phase (If you are one of the unlucky ones!!) as My mum still can't bear to smell what was her fave perfume at the time and when I got lucky she told me to stop wearing the fave stuff just in case. A few of my friends have had the same experience...one says just the thought of John Paul Gaultier make her heave let alone the smell after one particularly bad puke session just after she had applied her morning squirt...oohh errr

Otherwise the only cautions are around certain essential oils used in bath stuff and aromatherapy but they usually warn you of this on the label.

And ALison's so right..the worrying never stops..mine are 14 months old and there is always something new to panic you...it's the joy of being a mummy-to be.

Congratulations and try and enjoy
Nicky

Hi Deb

Congratulations on being pregnant!

The worrying doesn't stop now for at least 18 years, so forget about trying not to! I think we do worry even more because of everything we've gone through to get here in the first place.

You are fine to carry on using perfumed stuff as normal - the only thing I have read is not to use nut based massage oils because of allergies.

Take care & good luck,

Luv Rachel X
(28 wks + 1 day with twins)
