Ways to increase fertility - while on stims

Post by sciteacher77 »

Hello,

I am on my second IVF cycle. My 1st was cancelled before retrieval due to poor response . Now I am on BC pills again and wondering if anyone knows of anything that can increase your response while on stims? Someone mentioned Robutussin to me. Has anyone heard of this? How much do you take and for how long? I am going to try accupuncture a few times as well. Any input would be great! Thanks!!!

I too just finished my first cycle of IVF with a negative outcome. At my post IVF consult I asked the doctor what I could do to increase my mature egg production. They only retrieved 5 eggs, and 3 were mature, 2 fertlized. We had beautiful embryos, but they didn't stick. So...her response to my question was "DHEA vitamins". There has been research showing that by taking 75mg of DHEA for a period of time before your cycle you can increase your production of mature eggs for retrieval. I actually just bought my DHEA today and plan to start taking three capsules each night for th ensxt two months before I begin IVF #2. Good luck to you!

sciteacher77, Sorry to hear about your first cycle I too am in my first cycle and don't know much about what you can take to help while stimming but am concerned about the Robitussin response my Dr. has told me I can't take any medications not even aspirin or any substitute the only thing they told me was acceptable was Tylenol-Acetimeniphen thats it! so I would be very careful with the Rocitussin.

Hi, I can't help but ask ... I was browsing the message board and people write about DHEA is that the same as DHA (Fish Oil)?

Actually DHEA is a form of testosterone supplement from what I understand. When I went into the vitamin store to ask for it, he was wondering why I was taking it, because usually men are the one who take it in order to increase their testosterone. So I am taking 3, 25mg capsules a day (just started yesterday), I am hoping I don't start talking deeper or growing facial hair! The guy said that if I am only on it if for a few months that it shouldn't cause me any problems. At this point I would take the deeper voice and facial hair if it would help us have a child!

Hopetobeamommysoon,
You're funny! But I must admit, I'd take the facial hair and deep voice as well. I'm going to ask my doctor tomorrow about it. Thanks and best of luck to you. Chriss

Hi!
My doctor recommends a supplement called Bioendurance made by a company called Biosynergy. You can order it online and are supposed to take 3 pills a day. I am still in the middle of my 2WW, but I produced more eggs this time around and so did 3 of my friends while on this. It's supposed to have a lot of great benefits for your body either way. My doctor is a highly reputable doctor in New York written up in New York's best doctors every year. Try it! It can't hurt! Good luck!

My doc recommends baby aspirin...one per day. He showed me a study where it increased pregnancy rates by 5% over ivf or iui alone. I didnt use it last time, but on this round I am. I figure it can't hurt.

Either that or buy a sports car. I know 2 people who went thru years of infertility only to give up and buy a two-seater sports car. Both got pregnant naturally!! And buying a Ferrari may turn out to be cheaper than all this ivf expense!

I like your car suggestion

I am going for cycle 3 after two failed IVFs. I am also a poor responder and open to trying new things to improve my follicle number!!
Especially since my RE says she can no longer change the protocol... I guess I am a big medical mystery

I like the suggestions here... I am trying to eat healthy and hope to be able to relax a little and enjoy life while waiting for my Nov IVF... but any and all suggestions are welcome!

HI everyone, I am actually in the middle of my second round. My first they got 16 eggs, 9 fertilized, none made it. All abnormal. This time I only have 6 follicles where I had 15 at the same time last round.
The only thing different is my stress level and fear of failure.
My Dr. tells me there is NOTHING I can do to imprease egg production, it all has to do with the particular group at the time.
For someone who ALWAYS wants to be in control and have solutions to fix things, this is very hard for me.
I do wish you all the best, good health and a mind set to allow you peace through this stressful, needle filled yet very hopeful time.
If anyone needs some support, I am here.
