Ronnie,

The only time I've been told to slow things down is after the ET. I think keeping active and healthy leading up to your IVF is very important.

Good luck!

Ronnie,
I am certainly not the story you want to hear about but... I've tried IVF 5 times now (all fresh) with no luck. I've had three chemical pregnancies but nothing more. I just started my first FET this weekend so we'll see how it goes! Thankfully it is easier on the system so I'll get to 'rest' a bit.

I run and go to the gym regularly to keep fit and active, plus walk every where!! That is in addition to the healthy eating I have taken up while on this journey. While I haven't had a BFP last, I sure feel good and I think it helps me cope with the challenges I've had to face.

Best of luck with your IVF!

wondering about exercise too

Post by chriss »

hi Ronnie. I am wondering the same thing. I run regularly and I am afraid to keep it up. I just started my first IVF cycle. I start the FSH shots in 2 days. Have you looked on line at all? Chriss

I would never characterize myself as athletic, but I do practice yoga at a fairly serious level and run occasionally. I'm in the middle of my 1st IVF, and my RE said it was no problem to continue my regular routine up until the ET. He said moderate exercise is healthy and benefical for IVF, but very strenuous exercise could be a problem. He said to listen to my body, and if I'm feeling tired or dizzy to modify my exercise accordingly. If I ran regularly, I would probably keep it up but maybe go slower and take it easier than usual.

Good luck and baby dust to all!!

Hi Ceiba,
Thanks for responding. I've been told that moderate exercise is good as well. I plan to keep up with a routine until the ET, but running slower and not for as long. Good luck with the IVF. What part are you up to? Have you started the FSH shots yet? I start them in 2 days as long as my bloodwork comes back okay. Are you on Lupron? Are you having any reactions to it? I've been a little depressed, crying a little, etc. BEst wishes, stay strong. Chriss

Hi Chriss:

I guess we are in the same situation. I run 4 times a week, from 40 min to 1 hour. I have look online and the information is very confusing. I have tried yoga and its pretty good.
Are you still running during the IVF? What does your doctor tells you?
I find that exercizing helps me SOOO much...I think that, in the end, you should try to feel good and be relaxed..GOOD LUCK IN YOUR IVF!!!

Exercise

Post by curlydoo »

I have just been wondering the same??? I have already done a fresh cycle and i am starting a FET and I started my shots on the 7th August 2007.

With the last IVF i did stop exercising and put on a bit of weigh, so for the last couple of months i have been training with a personal trainer. To loose the weight and when i don't exercise i get depressed.

I have just been looking on the internet and i read that when you start your shots they shut off your hormones and we need to rest.

So i am confused and scared on what to do for the best!!!???

So girls what do we do for the best????

I don´t know what to do. I think that is very important to try to be fit but not underweight.
Try to mantain a normal level of exercize, maybe personal trainer is too much. Personally, I have found a great confort in yoga.
I think that tryng to keep optimistic and feeling great is most important. (That is today since is a good day)

GOOD LUCK!!

Hi Ronnie,
Yeah, I was running 4 to 5 times a week for 40 minutes before I started the baby quest. When I started the IUI's last fall, I slowed it down a bit. I would run 30 minutes instead and maybe only 3 or 4 times a week. Now that I am doing IVF, I am more scared. I've been running 20 to 30 minutes 3 or 4 times a week. When I start the FSH shots, I think I will slow it down even more. I am getting conflicting messages. I found some study on-line about women who were runners over a period of 9 years did not respond well to IVF. Did you check that one out? If that's the case, the damage is already done. I feel like I need to exercise regularly. I put on ten pounds this year while TTC. I don't know what the answer is. I 'm going to ask when I go in for my FSH visit. Let me know if you find out anything. I forget, where are you at on your IVF cycle?

Chris:

I don´t think there is much difference between runninig 30 or 40 minutes, the thing is to feel good. While you are at the IVF I would strongly recomend yoga, look for a good yoga center near your home and go, it can be a great exercise for your mind and body, maybe try Ashtanga or Iyengar, which are pretty effective. It helps also to avoid injuries.

Yes, I saw the study and decided to forget it, it´s not gone do me any good.

I will be starting my shoots at the end of August.

Keep me posted on what your doctor tells you!!!

That was quick! I have not tried yoga yet, I am a little apprehensive about it, I don't know why. I belong to a gym and I could easily check it out. I did buy some "meditation" CD's and have tried some guided meditiaiton. I enjoy that. They help me to relax. What is your IVF history? Is it your first time?

Morning!!

I asked my personal trainer last night if he had trained with women who were in my situation (IVF) and he said that he has trained with plenty. He said it was o.k.

I have sessions with him twice a week for 1/2 hour and it is torture. I also go to circuit training, i think i will swop it for a yoga class and keep up the training withe my personal trainer because i am still worried!!!

I think a lot of the confusion about recommended level of exercise comes from the fact that different MD's have different opinions, mostly based on personal experience not significant statistics.
My MD offices specifically states that exercise other than walking or riding a bike is a No-No. It's a real bummer for me because last year during some baby making time off I joined a beginning womens running group & loved it. But I'm afraid to try that again since my MD said no. I also really, really enjoy yoga. Last cycle I did nothing except gentle walks around the neighborhood & BFN. This time, I'm doing yoga. I refuse to believe it could be bad for me or hurt my chances, especially if I listen to my own body & don't do certain pelvic moves.
My MD office also recommends 3 days of bed rest after transfer. Have any of you been told about that?
