How many eggs can I expect to get from my Follicles

Post by ARG »

Hi,

I am on the last leg of my IVF with ICSI. I go for egg collection on Monday. I currently have about 8 follicles ranging from 15mm to 21.5mm (still with 2 days to go and today of course). What sort of egg yeild can I expect from this amount of follicles. I am really scared that I wont get any eggs. And then of course I am scared that there wont be any fertilized ones. Any one give me any advice.

but I can relate what my wife just went through. We had a retreval last Saturday, Aug. 3. She had 9 follicles ranging in about the same range as you although she had one that was only 13 (two days before the retreval). They ended up harvesting (are the farmers or doctors) 10 eggs (there was a follicle they couldn't see with the ultrasound) with 9 of them being mature and 7 of them fertilized "normally". All of them ended up being 4 plus quality. We put back 1 5 grade eight cell and 1 4 plus grade eight cell on day 3(our clinic didn't say anything about A or B or anything like that, but they said you couldn't ask for 2 more perfect embryos). We froze the rest that we were able to freeze.

So to answer your question, is we got as many mature eggs as follicles we saw. I think this is about normal, but I don't know this is just our first (and hopefully our last) tme at IVF. So I wouldn't worry until they tell you to worry. Good luck.
