Well I said I would start a thread on this side and that's exactly what I did.... hopefully you'll all join me on this side so we can talk about the joys of being new mommy's! This way we can share exciting news about the baby's & ask many questions (especially us first time mommy's). Hope to hear from you all soon...

does anyone have a tummy baby?? i tell you, if i let gavin sleep on his tummy i would get a lot more sleep... the last few days he's been in tummy time and fallen asleep on the floor (on his tummy) and has slept 3 hours even with all the noise from the other boys ... i only put him to sleep on his back, but wonder if he would sleep a lot better on his tummy?? i'm sure it would help with the gas issues...

Hi Colleen-

I have a tummy baby.... Aubrey loves to take naps on her tummy and she loves tummy time! However, when I put her to sleep in her crib at night she still goes on her back. I'm afraid to leave her on her belly all night long... but I'm ok with it for her naps because I'm usually right there (or at least I was until this week).

So do any of you girls have any idea what your little ones are going to be for Halloween???? I know I'm already thinking Halloween - well Aubrey is going to be a Lady Bug - actually I already got her costume... it's so cute!

Well hope to see everyone on this side soon enough.

Hi girls. I'm here!

Both of my babies prefer their tummies. In fact, I woke up one morning to find Braeden on his tummy--yikes! Yes, he can roll over. LIttle genius. He's going to be like DH (an early walker at 9 months). I haven't really put them on their tummies to nap yet, because I'm a chicken, I guess. But it's funny, both babies HATE tummy time, yet they like to sleep on their tummies. Go figure!

Halloween? Are you kidding me? I'm just trying to get through today! I'm only on the computer because the babies are taking a LONG nap. I"ll pay for this later tonight!

hi there girls... i needed a little time.... the kids are crazy today!!

i was saying yesterday that gavin like to sleep on his tummy, only when i'm there, and he's on the floor, but today a whole other story... he can roll from his tummy to his back, and has not stayed on his tummy more hten 5 minutes today, and now he's not napping.... the 3 hour naps the last few days got me spoilked, now all i want is a little or any nap... i'm waiting for him to roll the other way (from back to tummy) so i'll feel better about him on his tummy..

kim- i agree... when they roll and other milestones early they tend to walk early... my first was early and walking too at 9 months... my second was slower and didn't walk till 14 months... gavin is rolling one way, for a while now, but he can not get his big belly over the other way..

tasha- crazy weather yesterday?? we ended up in the basement as the sirens were going off.... scared us ... now my oldest is freeked out at any noise... the rain has been nuts the last couple of days!!~!

halloween.... well... i'm looking at all the laundry now, and can not think that far... i have a few costumes from the other boys, i'm sure that one of them will work.... (sorry gavin you do not get a new costume... it's money i can spend on other things).... but it's weird... i've started christmas shopping -on line mostly... the more i get done now, the less crazy i'll be then!!

Hi Everyone,

It is nice to be on this side of the boards. It has been a long time since I have posted. I am so sorry, but I'm still getting used to this mommy thing and it seems like every second is spent trying to take care of Lily. Lily is doing fine she is now 9lbs 7onz as of our last Dr's visit (which was over a week ago) but she is very fussy, cries a lot and does not sleep very well. I can't wait until she grows out of this stage because it is so hard. Some days she is a little angel and others I pray for just 5 minutes of peace without her fussing. I can't believe that she is 7 weeks old already and even though it is hard I love every second of it.

Lily likes to sleep on her belly also, especially if it is on top of me. I know it is not the safest way for her to sleep so I do not let her do it often and only when I am awake so I can watch her.

I also can't wait for Halloween. It is one of my favorite holidays and I am looking foward to dressing Lily up. I'm not sure as what yet but probably something easy like a pumpkin.

Nance--I'm sorry to hear that Lilly is so fussy. Could it be gas? Colic? Braeden tends to get fussy at times, and it's usually gas. I've found gas drops to be helpful at times. Just a thought. Lilly sounds like she's a good weight! I"m curious to see how big my kiddos are. We have our 2 month appt. next week. I'm dreading the vaccines. Ugh. Any advice mommies?
Lilly's bottle feeding, right? Or, am I confused? If so, how much is she taking at a feeding? My babes are all over the place...sometimes 2 oz, sometimes 6 and anywhere in between. Just curious as to how much lilly eats since she's the same age.

Colleen...Christmas? Are you kidding me? I'm going to be in soooo much trouble......

I go back to work part time in 2 1/2 weeks. I'm dreading it.

Hi Everyone,

Lily just went down so I had a few minutes to post. Ihope everyone is doing well.

Kim - Yes, Lily is bottle feeding and her schedule (or lack thereof depending on your point of view) is very eratic. She takes anywhere between 1.5 and 5.5 per feeding depending on her mood. Most days she averages about 20onz. I tried to get her to take a little more but when I push her too much she just spits up the extra so I am now just kind of following her lead. Some days she gets 6 bottles a day and other days she gets 8. I'm glad to hear that it is just not her that does this. Regarding her vacinations so far she has had two. Her hepatitis B (please forgive the spelling....) and her polio/DTaP combo. She handled it well (which is more than I can say for her mom) and had no bad reactions to either one. I just closed my eyes and held her really tight until it was over. She screamed for a few seconds but really it was not as bad as I thought it would be. I'm sorry that you have to go back to work so quickly. Did you arrange for child care yet?

Colleen - Wow, Christmas shopping already. I am very impressed. I feel that I get something accomplished if I get to brush my teeth before noon

Well, I'm going to try to take a nap while Lily is down. Hopefully she will stay down for a few hours. Keep your fingers crossed for me.

Nance--I hope you got a nap! It is comforting to know that other babies are erratic in their eating habits...I guess I wasn't too worried since both of my babies tend to vary from feeding to feeding at times. However, they seem to be doing better the past couple of days. They're napping more, and I think that it's actually helping them do better at night. I think I might have had them "up" too much...not sure how as I was always hoping to catch a break! But, I've been trying to read "BABYWISE"...which is all about scheduling to help your baby sleep through the night. It seems to be helping us a bit...but we're not sleeping through the night by any means yet!

As for child care, I'm VERY lucky. My dad ( a retired school principal and all around baby LOVER!) is going to watch them at my house three days a week. The other two days I'm going to send them to a sitter who lives nearby and watches a handful of kids. I think it'll be the best of both words. Lots of hand on time with grandpa and a couple of days with other kids. Since I"m only working in the afternoons, I am hoping it will be manageable. However, I am dreading going back....I'd love to stay home...I think!

Hello Everyone!

I am sooooo sorry it has been so very long since I have been online. I see that everyone has finally delivered and I am so happy everyone had a safe delivery. I am hoping to online more now since things are finally settling down. So here is our story:

Makayla's colic just kept getting worse and worse. They tried other medications, but with no results. Finally, a week ago, they tested her for GERD. It turns out all the spitting up she is doing is not the normal amount of spit up. She is now on Prevacid everyday. She has been on this for four days and last night she slept three 3-hour stretches for the first time in her life! I could not believe it. Today she took (is still taking) a three plus hour nap. She is more relaxed when awake and now she is even pleasant during the day. I cannot believe how much better she is. It is like someone turned off the light switch. Aside from that, she is getting really big (11 lbs 2 oz yesterday). The pediatrician said her weight gain should slow a little now that she is not nursing every 15 mins. It was so awful for a while. I felt like a complete cow. She would nurse reall good, turnaround about ten minutes later and repeatedly spit up large quantities of milk. This has been my life for over a month now. However, starting yesterday, she still spits up a little bit, but she eats and is now happy for at least 2 hours. I am so happy!

I will read through everyone's posts today and post tonight when she goes to sleep.

Love you all and I really missed you. I was just so busy and tired and stressed. I am hoping we are on the road to recovery!

Cmoscar - I am so glad that Makayla is doing better. That must be such a relief for you. Hopefully now both you and her will get some much needed rest and feel much better very soon. Do you mind me asking how much did she spit up? Did she spit up up after every meal or just once or twice a day?

Bridget - Welcome and congratulations! I look forward to hearing all about your little angel.

Kim - It sounds like you have the perfect child care. I can imagine how hard it is going to be going back but it must make it a little easier knowing that you babies are in such good hands. Do you mind me asking you how long it takes your babies to feed? Sometimes it takes Lily over an hour to eat 4 onz.

I hope everyone else is well. I am going to try to throw in a load a laundry while Lily is taking a quick nap.

Bridget--welcome! Congrats on your little guy!

Racheal--I'm glad you finally figured out her problem! I can't even imagine how frustrated you were. I know how hard it was to nurse two at a time, but I never was feeding every 15 minutes...yikes! I hope Makayla continues to imiprove.

Nance--It totally depends. Most feedings (around 4-5 oz.) we can plug out in about 30-40 minutes. Ellie is a faster eater, so sometimes she can finish in 20 minutes. However, when she eats that fast, we usually have a lot of spit up. So, we try to slow her down. Braeden is a very SLOW eater...in fact, I think he might be tongue tied. I'll be checking on that at the drs. office tomorrow for our 2 month appt.l So, when Braeden is slow, we are totally maxing out at an hour. I've been told by friends that when they get to the next stage nipple, it'll get faster. Let's hope!

As for us, we had a HORRIBLE night last night. The babies SCREAMED for nearly 2 hours while my husband was away at a class. I thought I was going to lose my mind. Even feeding them didn't calm them down. In fact, Ellie threw up nearly her entire bottle she was so upset. I somehow managed to calm Braeden down and get him to bed upstairs while ELlie screamed and howled downstairs. I was in tears because I hated to see them so upset...especially when I had to leave ellie to sob by herself in the cradle....but I had no choice. Once I got Braeden down, then I was able to calm ellie down. ughhhh....it was so frustrating. I hope we don't have too many episodes like that. I still don't know why they were so upset. Although, I think Braeden was crying simply because Ellie was. Why she was crying, I have no idea....

Well, I've gotta run. I've had ellie in the swing for a little while now, so I should get her out. Thankfully, her brother is sleeping. She doesn't seem to want to nap right now.

Makayla was spitting up about 2-4 oz at a time. They actually had me collect it so they had a decent idea of the amounts. As for the frequency, it was after every feeding and she was feeding all the time. If you are worried about Lily, ask your pediatrician. It took ours 8 weeks of us complaining to get him to do the test. Both DH and I thought it was just severe colic, but it turned out to be the GERD. The good news is she will out grow the condition by about 1 year of age. However, I have already been told she is not to start eating solids until at least 6 months of age. This will be hard on me because I am nursing her exclusively. They also told us no formula because it is harder on her as well.

Bridget - Welcome aboard! I am glad you finally have an angel too.

Kim - I hope your schedule works! I know what it is like not to sleep. In fact, DH has had to take Makayla out side for car rides just so I could sleep. Now I am loving the sleep she is giving me. I am praying it will continue. As for the vaccines, Makayla had 4 shots and 1 oral. They were harder on me than her. She did get a fever, but we had no way of knowing if her fussiness was from the shots or her GERD at that point.

Colleen - Wow! He is rolling already. It won;t be long before he is tearing up the rugs! I hope he lets you sleep again!

Tasha - I do not worry about the position as much because my oldest was a tummy baby. In fact that was the expected position back then. Makayla sleeps on her tummy sometimes, but seems to like laying on her side. I think she just goes with whatever keeps her stomach from hurting. I am glad to hear you are planning Halloween already. I am going to be starting our costumes soon because the boys want new ones this year. It normally takes me at least 2 weeks per costume for them. We'll see how long it takes with me at home!

Hi Guys its good to join you all at last, even if I'm the last!

We are settling down slowly, early days but Joshua seems at lot more settled than DD ever was. The feeding can take a while, and is when DD gets fed up and bored! but once he is satisfied I can put him down and he'll be happy for a while. we even managed a 4 hour stretch of sleep last night!

DH is supposed to be off work for 3 weeks but being self employed he seems to be doing jobs here and there, at least it will ease me into coping alone gradually! not sure how i'll cope but guess you just do?!!

DD is doing ok with everything, but is pretty rough with him and its so hard not to shout at her. I took her to playschool this morning and she was pretty upset, which only lasted 5 mins apparently but was still really hard for me. Anyway, as i said its early days for us so we'll see.

Rachel- sorry Makayla has been suffering, but glad its sorted at last. DD was really fusy and sicky and hated lying down. I was convinced she had reflux, but n-one was interested so we just had to ride it out for 4 months, when she rolled onto her front to sleep andwas so much happier.

kim-sorry to hear about your evening. it's bad enough having one screaming baby, you are doing so well. keep up the good work.
