Metformin and changes in cycle

Post by Cori »

I started taking Metformin about 3 months ago. Since beginning, I have noticed a change in my cycle length. What used to be a 25-27 day cycle is now changing to a 31 day cycle. Is this normal and has anyone else experienced this?

Hi Cori!
I am also taking Metformin in order to do something to my insulin levels, but not sure why exactly. I was told I have Thrombophelia, something 60% of people have that can affect pregancy. I'm not really sure why you're taking it or what it does to your cycle, so sorry I can't help you there. I noticed you live in New York too, so maybe this is a common drug they use here?? Who knows. If I hear anything, I'll pass the word along to you. Good luck!
Where in Ny are you?

Hi ladies!
RMSM,
I am actually from Binghamton, N.Y. How about you?
Just so you both know, I have since found out that Metformin should not affect your cycle length. Miraculously so, I found out last week that the reason my period did not come is because I am pregnant!! I am still in shock. My clinic put me on Metformin because they told me that it looked as if I have polycystic ovaries (not syndrome) and Metformin is supposed to regulate your insulin levels and help you ovulate more regularly. I believe that this drug was one of the main keys to my miraculous success along with lots of relaxing. I hope that both of you have success also. Keep the faith and don't ever give up!!!
Love,
Cori

:) Hi Cori

Can I ask you how long have you be taking metformin till you fell pregnant?

I was ask if I would take it. I said no as i am on insulin. put now reading what you are saying it make me understand what was been said to me and it would help with the POCS.

I was thinking it would made my blood sugars go to low and I don't like that.

Nickyz x

PS How is the pregnants going? Ok I hope :D :D

Hi Nickyz!
I was on Metformin for 3 1/2 months before I fell pregnant. I highly recommend taking it because I believe that it is one of the main reasons that I pregnant. Good luck to you. I will be hoping and preaying that you get the same success.
The pregnancy is so far going very well. I have had very few symptoms yet this far and have been very lucky. I am 8 weeks along right now. I am not going to lie though. I am very worried all the time.
Keep in touch.

Even being pregnant, my doctor still has me on Metformin. I started taking it prior to getting pregnant through the Clomid treatment, IUIs, IVF and the FET. ... and I'm still on it at this phase - the doctor's orders.

Metformin didn't change my period cycles because I was also on BCP so that it was predictable when my period would start.

Hi Nickyz! The Metformin never made me feel ill. When I started it, my OB/GYN had started me on the lowest dose then gradually increased it. So I'm taking the max Metformin 500mg @ 3 times a day. I don't know if it helped me with my POSC. But when I had a hysteroscopy/laparoscopy done, my lining was scarred with endometriosis and I have a blocked fallopian tube. I don't remember which side that why my OB/GYN quickly referred me to IVF. Good luck with everything.

:? Hi Karen

Well I have type one diabetic and my doc said it could work for me but not. this is my frist time with ivf we had been told that we are on a waiting list for 3 year so I had 2 half year to get my wieght down. But we got a letter two weeks ago to tell us we are at the up of the list and we can start treatment.. but my wieght is not down yet.

I am not looking forward to the treatment put it is the only way for us....

hope you have good luck

Hi Nickyz,

I wish you the best of luck. Please keep checking back at the boards for the support. I'm just hanging in there. The end of my first trimester is seems so far away. My ultrasound last week, I was giggling. My OB/GYN was saying that my baby was so active and wiggling around like a wiggle worm. I said it look like it was boogie-ing.
