Dear All

I think some people may not agree with what i am doing but i am a single women. I was married and went through ivf once in my marriage i am now divorced and have always dreamed of being a mother, I have been searching for mr right for a long time and he has never appeared. My mum has been diagnosed with terminal cancer. So with no mr right and my mum not having long to live i have decided to embark on the ivf journey as a single lady. I have to go through ivf as my tubes are totally blocked beyond repair. Anyway on a brilliant note for me i got a call this morning from the clinic and after months of waiting i they have found me a sperm donor that matches my blood group etc so as of the first week in September i will be joining you all and going through ivf.

I hope you will accept me onto the board and hope i can offer support to you all. I understand people may not agree with what i am doing but feel due to my age and my situation some of you may understand. It felt like time was running out for me and rather than being in a disastrous relationship and putting a child through a break up and i want to give my mum a grandchild before her time runs out. I have always longed for a baby and this is my dream. Good luck to you all

I'm in a similar situation to you - I'm single (37) and having iui with donor sperm.
I only joined this site a few weeks ago but everyone's so lovely.
I understand what you're saying, I also worry about people not approving but I've not had a single negative comment from anyone I've told. Have you told any friends etc? I've only told a few people but they've all been really supportive. I think if they're true friends they'll understand how much it means to you to do this.

Thanks thats great thanks for your reply. So when are you going through it? My friends think its great, my mum however wishes to be a grandma but can not get her head around what i am doing. But seriously i went through it when i was married my ex husband was a soldier and i was totally alone as he was in Iraq this time doing it as a single person my best friend who is a man is my ivf buddy and my support network is amazing i could not wish for better friends. So can i ask what made you decide now is the time? What does your entail?

Let me begin with congratulating you. What a wonderful thought!!
Friends, don't get me wrong...but definitly this child will not be the result of a moment of temptation but will be coming into this world with a purpose. He/she will be the reason for 'rach007' to smile, an awesome gift from a daughter to her mother...unmatchable. Wow!!

Well, I'll be one of your september buddy...my pickup is planned somewhere in the mid of next month.

Hi Rachel
I was due to start iui in january but had a couple of cycles cancelled cos I didn't ovulate. I've got a crazy cycle so am now taking clomid to help things along.
I've now had 2 iui's which didn't work and had 3rd iui last week. Due to test next wednesday so fingers crossed very firmly

I think my parents are finding it hard too - they seemed ok at first but haven't mentioned it for months now. I think they're a bit embarassed to discuss it, they're not very good at saying how they feel.

why now? I've always wanted children for as long as I can remember and assumed it would happen naturally but after a short marriage in my 20's I've never found mr right. I was fortunate to inherit some money last year from my Grandmother and it became possible. I hope she would approve.

Have you had a long wait for a donor? How does it work with your clinic? I had to buy the whole batch of 10 doses at the beginning of treatment but I didn't have to wait for it at all. maybe I was just lucky

Wow next wednesday oh god i sure hope it works i have everything crossed for you and am sending loads of baby dust, how you feeling? any signs? you coping? do you have people backing you? i am always here seriously if you want to pm me its fine just shout anytime. so have u had every go with the same donor?

I had to wait about 4/5 months and i got the call today they told me hair colour, eye colour, height and skin type and the fact he matched my blood group and cmv group and if i wanted to accept or not. I only have to buy 1 lot as they say but can buy the rest incase i want other children so there full blood if that makes sense.

Yes all from the same donor and I only got told the same as you - hair colour, eye colour etc. They don't seem to give out much info here. I was told they can only store it for max 1 year while having treatment but if/when its successful i can have the rest stored for 10 years for siblings. weird laws we have
I'm feeling just normal so far I think. I'm really trying not to think about it too much. Last month I analyzed every twinge and convinced myself I was pregnant - I even felt sick the day before the test, so it hit me hard when i got a BFN
Chatting on here helps as people really understand how you feel unlike friends and family. They're supportive but can't really understand.

Yes thats about the size of it they have no idea even though your friends and family try they really dont get it. Here everyone understands and feels and think the same and we all have one goal which is special. When people get a BFP i cry for them its so happy to see someone thats struggled like us to get that joy. I read a post earlier and the lady was on her 9th ivf attempt my heart just went out to her. Some people are so deserving.

I was adopted at birth my parents are wonderful, i have since met my birth mother and that showed me my adopted parents my mum and dad are amazing wonderful people, they have a son my brother who my mum adores he is married but they dont have any children and live in Oz. My mum has terminal cancer and she would love a grandchild her son my brother has not even been here to visit her and it winds me up. She gave me a fantastic life so as well as living my dream of being a mother i will give her a dream too of holding and spending some time with her grandchild before things run out for her, plus in some strange kind of way i feel it will give my dad some hope and something to live for after her passing. Anyway i am getting way too deep here and im sorry, I just hope your pregnant.
