Morning!!

My question of the day is about car seats. What have you guys decided to buy - I can't make up my mind!

I've read a Which report which recommend the Bebecar Safe Side seat from a safety point of view but I've also read that it's not very comfortable for the baby and it doesn't have a head support!

We've decided to go for the ones that lift out of the car as it'll make it easier to get them from the house into the car - how many pair of hands am I going to need??!!

Any advice welcome!!

We went for our first ante-natal class last night which was quite intesting. A lot of the stuff I've read but it's still nice to be told be a qualified midwife! It was really useful for dh though, he's been really lazy about reading any books, etc so all about labour and pain relief was new to him! I think he was taken aback at how painful it's going to be - duh!!!!!!!!!!!

Hope you're all well and not suffering too much with the heat!

LOL Helenxx
25 weeks today!

Helen,

We went for the Britax Rock-a-tot car seats as they were reccommended by our friends, and they have been a great buy. Plus you can check on their website if the seat fits your car. They are practical, comfortable and easy to use for feeding and the car. Also the carry seats are far more use in the first nine months than the fitted seats. We didn't realise that half the seats only fit certain makes of car. We have a Vauxhall so thought we would get plenty of choice in the next stage seats but only two or three ended up fitting correctly. Go to Mothercare and try them out for size then buy them from websites (Kiddicare is really good) as they are cheaper. We had to buy two and got £70 off the ones we wanted so really worthwhile shopping around.

Hope this helps
Nicky
Hi Helen,

I bought the Which guide too, and opted for the Jane (pronounced Hannay)Matrix Travel System, it's apparently the 2nd safest car seat according to their tests and it was the only seat available that allows the baby to lie completely flat for the first few months. Problem is that it's a rear facing seat and I hate the idea that once the baby is in a reclined position they'll be facing the back seat of the car. I might look into having the front passenger air bag removed / disconnected though so that they can ride up front with me......is that extreme?!

I'm trying to recall if you're having twins, because this seat probably wouldn't be any good if so, as when it lies flat it more or less fills the back seat.

It's a nightmare trying to make sure that you buy the right thing isn't it, I imagine that people waste a fortune if they don't go on recommendation.

All the best,
Suzanne.x
Hi Helen

Like Nicky, we bought the Britax Rock-a-tots, mainly because they were in the sale in M&S and at the time everyone seemed to have them. They were really useful for carrying our two around in, went in the car easily and when they were bigger, were useful to feed them in if we were out for the day. It's safest to have rear-facing seats; in fact the recommendation is that children should ideally be in a rear-facing seat until they're 3, but as Nicky said, 2nd-stage car seats are a much trickier buy.

Hope that you and your boys are well.

Jules

Thanks Girls - more research to do by the sounds of it!! :-}

Helen xx

Jules - good to hear from you again, you've been quiet recently. Enjoying the weather with your two??
Hi Helen

Thanks for the message. I've been having problems logging on and my computer's still not quite right! We've had lots of fun out in the garden, exploring the sand pit we bought them for their first birthday (my floors are now covered in a trail of sand!). We're off to the in-laws in Devon for a few days on Thursday to introduce them to proper sand - should be good. Take care.

Jules

Hiya Helen

We've just about decided on the Travel Tot Deluxe baby seat (X 2!) from Mothercare after alot of looking/thinking. The reasons we've gone for this one is for the wind canopy and foot muff which will be handy in the winter months while they're being carried from/to car.

The only thing I'd say is definately get baby carrier ones and make sure they're quite well padded and have a head hugger.

Hope you're well.

Happy shopping!

Luv Rachel X
