anyone had 'spotting' after 1st scan?

Post by Zed2003 »

Hi all,
I too had my first scan at 7wks on Wednesday and all looked fine. That night though I felt very unsettled and quite sore as if been majorly prodded (ok, so I had!). I also got some staining which was browny pink when I wiped myself after going to the toilet. I've had cramping and brown staining since the start of week 5, but obviously things were ok with the baby at the scan and I was told this may be how I would be. The thing is that, things had been better before the scan and now it's back. The hospital say it could be just as a result of the internal scan but we're terrified as we've been here before and lost the baby soon after (and it was a missed m/c-just knew something wrong). They say I can have another scan next week, but honestly don't want another internal.
Soory for the book length - just wondered if anyone had gone through the same.
Zoe x

Hi Zoe

Just to let you know I had spotting uptil 12 weeks I had scans done and they said everything was ok. I had pains in my tummy and automatically thought the worst like yourself.

I am now 16wks and 1 day and everything is ok, the hospital said to me that it is common to have bleeding throughout pregnant but what they did say to me is never ignore the bleeding.

Let me know how things go, if you need to mail me please feel free.

Love
Shell.
xx

Thanks for the words of support, Shell - I've only recently found this site and it's a comfort to hear I'm not the only one.
I think it's because staining and cramps had stopped a couple of days before the scan that I freaked when it came back. It may be a coincidence as it would have happened anyway, like yourself, but I suppose it could be the scan as lets face it, it is evasive, albeit only a little. I think if I hadn't had the missed m/c before then i wouldn't be fretting as much. We're signed away from the IVF clinic now, but have a GP appt. on Monday so we'll see what he says. Do you know how early they can do an external ultrasound? There is an 'early pregnancy unit' up here that I may contact if still unhappy next week. It's easy for others to say 'sit tight' and wait a few days, but not so easy to do, is it?
Glad you are doing well and hope this heat is not getting to you too much! Don't know where in the country you are, but even the Scottish weather is good! lol
Zoe x
Dear Zoe,

Just wanted to let you know that I had full-blown bleeding at 5 weeks, 9 and a half and 15 weeks, and I also had a heavy bleed at 12 weeks, had scans each time and the baby has remained fine, so far. I've had abdo pain all the way along too. It's a major worry, but I've done masses of research and spoken to many many people, and it's extremely common. Red blood (which is what I've always had) always should be checked out, but this doesn't mean the worst.

I became a regular at my early pregnancy unit, and it was a major comfort after we'd been there the first time, as we knew where to go back to if we had another panic (which we did - several!). I wouldn't think twice about paying them a vist - it's definitely worth it to put your mind at rest. The EPU usually does internal scans rather than external as they can get a much better picture this way - the uterus is still down low and doesn't start to move up until around 12 weeks-ish or after. I asked for an early external scan once, as I was nervous about doing it internally, and to be honest they had to push my tummy to get a picture and I didn't like that very much. The pic still wasn't particularly clear and so they did an internal one in any case!

I'll check back in to see how you're doing!

love,
Nina (16 wks 5 days)
Hi Nina,
Seems I may be going the same way. Had red bleeding last night and thought that was it. The EPU couldn't see us until tomorrow, but the IVF clinic were great and scanned again today and things seems to be progressing. They even checked my cervix and did a swab, so needless to say I'm bleeding again but trying to keep vaguely calm...
Thanks for postin - hope things ok with you.
Zoe x
