26 week scan

Post by Helen G »

Hi there

Just thought I'd let you know I had another appt with my consultant today - and a scan!! Both my boys looked good and have grown how they should have done!! My blood pressure is the lowest it's been since I found out I was pregnant and my wee was clear!!!!!!!!!!!! Needless to say I am now a very happy bunny! Both babies are still head down which is good.

Had the first serious discussion with my consultant about delivery today - she is recommending I go for a c-section. In an ideal world, I would prefer to go for a natural birth (with pain relief of course!! :-) ) but will obvioulsy do what I need to do for all of our safety. What have you lot been advised? Aunties Jules and Nicky, can't remember what you ladies had, can you share your experiences with me??

I'm quite keen to stick to my guns and ask for natural as long as everybody is doing ok. What do you guys think??

We spent just about all weekend painting our bedroom and the nursery. We've just had our floors sanded down so now have lovely wooden floors. It's all looking great and I'm really excited 'coz I can now go shopping for baby stuff!!!!!

Hope you're all OK and not suffering too much in the heat. I was on the sofa again last night as it's too hot in my bedroom. I would love to have to snuggle into the duvet coz it's cold at the mo!!

LOL Helen xx
Time is ticking on isn't it?
As far a c-section or natural that is your decision, however I would take on board recomendations from the experts!
I will hopefully catch up proerly with you again soon, in the meantime, stay cool..
Lots of love
Kirsty
xx

Hi Helen

At my 20 weeks scan the consultant said if both babies were head down and there were no serious complications, there was no reason why I couldn't have a natural delivery.

Just as a point maybe to ask about, in my twins book it mentions something about finding a consultant experienced in deliverying twins naturally if it's a natural birth as most constulants who're inexperienced will be more comfortable in pushing you towards c-section.

It maybe worth questioning it more with them as to the reason why they're saying it.

Am glad to hear that everything is hunky dory.

Love Sarahx

ps - i hope to go for natural birth - the thought of being cut open whilst awake petrifies me and I'd rather go through the pain of birth. The after effects are non too appealing to me either:o)

Hi Helen

Glad to hear your boys are doing well!

About delivery - my consultant said as long as first twin is head down and everything else seems normal, you should go for natural delivery. However (you may remember) I've asked for a planned c/section which he has agreed to seeing as it's twins and chances of needing one anyway are higher than with a singleton. The thing that sways me is all the stories I've heard of 1st twin being born with no problem (apart from the pain!) but then 2nd being stuck high up and ending up with an emergency c/section after all the labour & delivery of one. Also, a planned section is meant to be easier to recover from than an emergency, and ........ I've done natural delivery with my little boy and had a horrible experience. The soreness, bruising and stitches after a vaginal delivery are pretty bad so I don't see how recovery from a section will be so much worse.

Anyway, these are my thoughts, obviously it's up to you what you'd rather go for.... and good luck!

Take care,
Luv Rachel X

Hi Helen

Sounds like the boys are doing well, and you too.

I had an elective caesarean because of the position of my daughter (Twin 2) - she was transverse. If it hadn't been for that and my worry about having a normal delivery for my son followed by a caesarean for my daughter, I'd have been happy for a natural delivery. If your two are both head down, there seems to be no reason why you can't have them naturally so I'd push your case. My mum had my twin brothers naturally even though one of them was breech and it all went very smoothly.

All the best.

Jules

Helen,

I will be of no use to anyone on this question...I ended up with a c-section under a general at 29 weeks....but all that matters is that I have two healthy babies. I must be mad in that I feel I really missed out on the whole third trimester and labour. But it was an odd beginning so why not an odd end!!!

Whatever your choice, just remember you may have to go with the experts decision so be prepared but most of all remember it is the end result that counts. Mind you I was back driving etc after only 3 weeks and have had no problems since, so c-sections can have their plus side.

Good luck and enjoy the rest of the pg...and get some rest!!
take Care
Nicky
