congrats! Goodluck staying vegetarian during pregnancy though. I was one and had gestational diabetes and that was the end of my vegetarianism.

Hi Mina:

One thing I can tell you is don't eat any soft cheeses (I don't mean the processed stuff - I mean REAL cheeses like blue, roquefort, camenbert (sp?), brie etc.) Also, not sushi, shell fish and of course alcohol...

The more COLOR variety of fresh fruits and veggies you can get into your diet the better... Processed foods are the worst!!!

Take plenty of fish oil (Omega 3 fatty acids) through eating oily fish like tuna, salmon, bluefish and/or taking capsules. Dr. Dean Ornish said that not only is it a superior anti-oxidant but it also has proved itself to be a supplement that can increase the IQ of the baby carried by the pregnant women who take it. You can also take L-arginine for nitric oxide benefits which helps to increase blood flow and oxigenation of blood.

Thats all I have for now...

Baby dust to you and tell us all your news as it comes in!!!

Mina, I agree on the veggies and fruits get as much as you can as far as the fish goes I have heard a few different things I hear tuna is a no go to much mercury for mommas if you can get a light canned tuna I have heard mixerd signals on that one. I remember ready some other large fish are also bad. Salmon and shrimp is alright as long as its fresh and not farm grown!
Also NO hotdogs very little to no delimeat I heard the same thing as Cocoa about the cheese. thats all I can think of right now.

Alliann!
OK: Shrimp is a shellfish, so it's Not OK...we can't eat shellfish!
I am confused re: the tunafish...I almost bought frozen Ahi Tuna at Whole Foods tonight...but until I look up the old What not To eat again, I held off..

That said, I have no desire for fish right now! OR meat...hmmm.
Oh well..

Hey WC... you can eat fish except those that tend to contain high mercury levels. Canned tuna is OK because the mercury content is regulated HOWEVER you have to limit your intake of tuna (like NOT daily -maybe once a week or so). As far as shell fish is concerned you can eat it but some say to stay away from it because of the possible density of pollutants (depends on from where it comes). Shrimp is ok in limited portions like tuna (and must of course be cooked) but NO raw clams, oysters or fish (sushi). And NO, NO, NO unpasturized foods which includes soft cheeses...

Hope that helps...

Oh, RE; the ticker... go to the ticker site and create your ticker (choose icons etc) THEN cut and paste the BBC code into your profile SIGNATURE... If your sig is too long you'll have to shorten it to get your ticker to work (I had to rearrange my sig 3 or 4 times...) Good luck!

I second that I love fish and shell fish so I panic'd when I was hearing all of the no no's but I am in agreence with Cocoa, I have read that shell fish are fine but they need to be cooked.

AVOID: Shark, Swordfish, King Mackeral, and Tile Fish

Other fishes are ok as Cocoa said in moderation 6oz a week of fresh water fish and canned tuna
12oz a week of wild salmon, halibut, tilapia, cod, and trout there are a few others so long as they are well cooked
