1st IUI failed - any 2nd IUI or more success stories

Hi Everybody

I've just had my 1st IUI attempt fail We are wondering if it's worth tring it a few more times before IVF/ICSI. DH has low motility but it really perked up when washed for IUI! Everything looked so good I don't understand how it didn't work. Any advice or stories much appreciated.

It's so frustrating isn't it. I've had 2 failed iui's. Everything looked good but they say there's only 15% change of it working each cycle (same as natural pregnancy)
Sorry can't help about sperm motility as I'm using donor but if the clinic thinks its ok then I'd say its worth a couple more goes at least. They say its about 60% success rate after 6 goes (I think)
I'm 8 days into 2ww for my 3rd attempt so we'll see

Hi,

I am currently 10 weeks pregnant and it happened on my 3rd iui. I also had surgery before the 3rd iui so I'm not sure what did the trick but it worked! IUI rarely works the first time you try it. Trust me I know how devastating it is when it doesn't work but you really should give it at least a few more tries. Are you on any meds? I wish you lots of luck and don't give up hope on iui's yet!!

i just found out our first iui attempt failed also so i know how discouraging it is. everything ive read says it takes a few more tries. so keep your head up and try again, im going to!

Hi, I got pregnant with my 2nd IUI. I just miscarried at 10 weeks but I think that is because I have PCOS. On our 2nd IUI my husbands sperm was like 3x more then 1st attempt. I don't know if it was just me but the 2nd time when it worked was painful and the first that didn't i didn't feel anything during or after. I am not sure what the doc is going to recommend for us next?

Hi Steph,

My first IUI in July was also unsuccessful so I know exactly how you are feeling and I felt the same, is it really worth it. I had a break this month and am scheduled to do my second IUI at the end of the week. Fingers crossed! The doctor said that everything was perfect last time so they'll do the same again, it just doesn't always work first time.

My advice is to give yourself a bit of time to deal with the first IUI before you make the next decision. It worked for me and I feel more positive again and able to deal with IUI a second time round. Personally I' don't feel ready to try IVF yet, maybe next year.

Having had 5 negative DIUI's before the 6th positive one I can sympathise what you are all going through. I found the whole month to month process incredibly hard emotionally and really started to question whether it would work. dh and I had even had a consultation about DIVF and had resigned ourselves to it not working. The nurses doing the tmt always commented on the fact "it was a good treatment" and that I was an ideal candidate for it to work so I found it incredibly upsetting and frustrating when month on month we had BFN's.

However I am now 35 weeks pregnant with a baby girl. The clinic told me there were another 4 ladies (out of 8 incl me) who were all going through back to back cycles of DIUI at same time as dh and me who have had BFP's. One of them on her first cycle amazingly, one on her 4 or 5th and the other 2 on cycle 6 or later! I was amazed it took that long for all of us except that one lady so there you go, just shows you how long it takes.

My faith has been restored in IUI since BFP and learning of BFP's at my clinic. Keep up the PM ladies and all the best on your next cycles.
