Long protocol. Confused as to when we actually start

Post by a&p »

Hi. I've been told that i (we) will be on the long protocol. We've had our counciling session and last Wednesday we went for our pre treatment chat and to sign all the consent forms. We were not shown how to inject the needles but they needed to do the blood tests on us both again (HIV, Chromosone (??) etc) because the last time we had them done was over 12 months ago (They all came back fine last time so we're not worried about them).

I told her i was due on in the next 5 days and she told me to ring up on the first day of my period to arrange to go in for the day 21 blood work as the blood work we'd just had done would be back before then.

What i'm confused about is when we actually start with the injections. Would we actually get started with the injections on day 21 when i go to have the blood work or does something else need to happen after the day 21 blood work before we can actually get started?

My day to day flow chart says:

First day of period - Ring unit. Nurse will work out date of first appointment. Usual day 21 - 23 of your cycle.

Day 21 - 23 - Attend ward for 1st injection teach to start Buserelin daily.

Etc etc etc

I'm just worried that we won't actually get started with the injections on day 21 of this cycle as on day 21 -23 on the flow chart it doesn't say anything about any blood work.
