Free IVF for all on the NHS!!!

Typical - just when we've all spent our life savings, couples are to be given 6 free treatments. Bugger! About time though I say. Jo.XXXXX

Hi Jo Yeah I heard it on the news yesterday, thing is though can you imagine how long you will have to wait on the list to get it. I am already on the list and it is 3/4 years that is why we decided to go private. We was one of the lucky ones I guess cost us £3000 but it worked first time for us. Its still a miracle and I hope and pray all goes ok. Love Shell. 16wks 3d pg xx

Shell is right about the waiting list. Up here, you get 3 full free goes on the NHS already (although it used to be 1 only - that was changed about April last year), but the current waiting times is about 18 months and it can vary. We paid the first two times to get it when we wanted, but this time it's on NHS - a lot of pressure was taken off us because of that - as if we all don't have enough to worry about... Zoe x

It's about time they changed it - in Brighton we only got 1 go on the NHS, but the criteria are very strict, so many aren't eligible. It's so unfair, so it should be the same for everyone no matter where they live. However, 6 seems a bit excessive. If they wanted to save moeny they should limit it to 3 per couple maybe. Wonder what's going to happen to the private clinics? Also I read in the paper that free treatment would also only be for patients with explained infertility, i.e. not unexplained. Not sure if that's the case already as we had male factor infertility. It's a bit of a bummer though that we've already had to pay for our treatment - but maybe we can have another go on the NHS. HI all I read and saw on news today that couples will get 3 free goes on NHS with low sperm count male factor and female infertility regardless of where you live. Hopefully this will still apply if couples have had successful treatment privatly and then want another go on NHS, knowing our area, they will probably say you are not eligible if you already have a child. Does anyone else know if that is the case? Louise
