Hi, I'm starting my first IVF/ICSI in or around the 10th September. I'm started the down regulating nasal spray last Wednesday. So far there's no side effects. I've my baseline appointment hopefully on the 29th August. I'm living in Ireland and attending a private clinic which is thankfully 25 minutes away from my home. I'm 37, DH is 48. He has 2 grown children from his first marriage so i'm the first timer. I'm so excited. I've lots of nieces and nephews and god children but i've always wanted to be a Mum. I'm very excited and nervous at the prospect.
Best Wishes

I went and did acupunture for a little bit. Who knows if it helps or not, but I did get some interesting tips. She said not to excercise, something about circulation, especially crunches. Also, I was told to eat multiple small meals, rather than a few large ones. I guess digesting a large meal make a lot of your blood supply go to your stomach.

My husband and I have no children....yet. We had a miscarrriage about a year and a half ago when I was four months pregnant. We have not been able to get pregnant since. The doctor's have not been able to find a reason except that my hiusband's sperm does not stay alive as long as it should, so we will do ICSI. I'm so glad there are other people to talk to who are going through this!

I am starting the stimulation meds around Sept. 13. I will try to exercise more that is for sure. Maybe the try the acupuncture as well. These are all great tips!!!

Me and my husband have been married and trying for 13 years with no luck, we had a tubal preg in 2003. But nothing since. I have lost both of my tubes over the years so IVF is last resort for us to have a biological child. I am excited and Scared all at the same time. Trying to keep up the faith and leave it in the Lords hands at this point.

It is sure nice to have other people going through the same thing that actually understand!! I know family and friends mean well but unless you have experianced this there is nothing like it.

Good luck to all

Well, I have been doing the Luprom injections for a week now. They have not been bad at all. It seems like the needle will get bigger with each new med. I start stims on Saturday and get a baseline on Thursday. I am so excited for this to finally start. How is everyone else getting along?

Possible September Cycle Buddy

Post by awelsh12 »

Hi there! I am preparing for my first IVF cycle. I started the Lupron last week and finished my last birth control pill on Sunday. I am just waiting to start AF and go in for an u/s this week to be sure there are no cysts to interfere with the cycle. If all is well, I should start the stim drugs this weekend. I am extremely excited but nervous. My husband and I are paying for this entire process out of pocket (insurance doesn't cover any of it) and have been TTC for two years. We tried 3 unsuccessful IUI cycles and are to the end of our rope. We got pregnant last year (while taking a month OFF of TTC what do you know??) and ended up miscarrying very early on. The fact that we have been pregnant before seems to give me hope. If I respond well to the meds and all goes well (so many hurdles to jump in this process) we should be having the retrieval procedure around September 12th. I have been getting accupuncture twice a week and will continue to for the next two weeks. It is the one thing I look forward to in all of this! I'm glad there are other's going through with me. What a stressful experience. Look forward to hearing from you.

AWELSH---I think we are on EXACTLY the same schedule! I also should be doing the egg retrieval on the 12th. Have you been having any side effects from the Lupron? I had my first migraine and it was so bad I went to the emergency room. No fun. I was doing acupuncture for a while, but the needles in my legs were just killing me so I stopped. Hopefully it helped. Isn't it crazy to think that pregnancy could (will) be right around the corner??

Hi all I hope you dont mind me joining in with you. I will be going through my 6th attempt in October I have had 3 egg retrieval in 2005 all BFN and this year I have had one cancelled treatment and the second in may was a fiasco the treatment was not adapted for me and at all. I would like to say to you all to try and stay positive and calm as this is the biggest rollercoaster ride ever!!! I have to go through this as my husband got an infection just after our honeymoon and was badly looked after. I am Irish and our medical system in Ireland is terrible. Since then he is blocked and we have to go through all this. There are real highs and lows well for me more lows then highs to be honest but I have to keep believing that it will work. I wish you all the very best and I hope this journey will end positive for us all.

kind regards

Krissi - Sounds like we are on the same cycle! The issue for me today is that I haven't started AF yet and I am scheduled for an ultrasound and bloodwork tomorrow to make sure there are no cysts etc. They said I need only one day of bleeding prior to this appointment but I haven't started yet. I have some cramps but no sign yet. I guess I will call and reschedule for Friday.

I'm sorry about your migrane - that really stinks! I have not experienced any side effects so I guess I have been lucky. I had a headache the first day but since then I have been fine. It has been a week today since I started the Lupron and Dex pills (can't remember the full name of the drug but the doc calls it Dex). It's another drug to help supress the hormones I guess. Are you taking that as well?

When do you start the stim drugs?

Tips and good luck

Post by awelsh12 »

I noticed a few ladies in this string asking for tips. The primary things I have heard is accupuncture for the four weeks leading up to the retreival and on the day of transfer. My clinic actually offers this as an extra service/cost on the day of transfer. The other things I have heard is to stay away from alcohol and more importantly, caffeine during this process. Their are studies that show a direct negative correlation between caffeine and the IVF process.

I wish you all the best!
