Beta of 6 !??

Post by hopeful_dad »

Is it even remotely possible that this pregnancy can succeed.

It was 14 days since the transfer. I know that is an extremely low number. The IVF clinic thinks it is likely a failed attempt to implant.

Another blood test in 2 days... any hope here?

I think there's always some hope. The number just needs to double at the next draw. My first beta was a 6, then at the next draw only a 10. Still, it had gone up so they made me do one more beta and that was under 10 so it was a bfn. So I know exactly how you feel right now. Hang in there and I'm praying for you! You never know in this crazy world of IVF!

Hi, I think there is always hope, my clinic have recorded a birth from a first Beta of only 3, so hang in there.
I unfortunately have had 2 low betas and lost both, i have since been diagnosed with a clotting disorder, factorV, which is commonly associated with early pregnancy loss, i am waiting to start another treatment i September.

I wish you all the best and hope your beta increases, if not please take the positive you can get pregnant and it will happen.

bad news

Post by hopeful_dad »

Thanks everyone.

Well bad news, the beta 2 days later was 0... so the clinic was right it was basically an immediate miscarriage.

Sadly, that was our second (and last) try. The clinis does not recommend any more tries as she is 43 and I am 43 tomorrow.

We only retrieved 5 eggs out of 10 follicles, but then 4 fertlilized. We had 3 top grade, and 1 "decent", which we froze... we may try to implant that one, but FET has even less chance than what we had this time around.

It looks like adoption or we hope we get lucky naturally as we don't have any children, and both always wanted one :(

I'm so sorry, hopeful dad. I know there's nothing that can make you feel better right now--just know that I am thinking about you and praying that somehow you and your wife will be parents someday soon.

Hopeful_Dad - I was so saddened and touched reading your story and your heartbreaking news. :( It sounds like what happened is called a chemical pregnancy. I went thru one myself in October 2006. Needless to say, it was just as devastating as any loss. Many hugs and prayers to your and your wife.

I also wanted to add that while adoption is a great option for many couples, Egg Donation is becoming more popular and more easily available. I can relate to how you are feeling b/c we do not have any children of our own either and I would love more than anything to experience the pregnancy and bond with our baby. Egg donation can give you that opportunity as well as the baby being partially genetically yours and biologically your wife's as she will give birth to the baby or babies. Success rates are very high at 50-60% at some IVF clinics. I've even read as high as 80% at others.

I'm now 37 and DH is almost 35. I've experienced 4 early m/c's and a failed IVF and we are now onto Donor Egg.

If you are interested, this is a great radio broadcast (haveababy.com) that covers egg & sperm donation, surrogacy, embryo adoption and is very thorough on each topic. Even though we've already made our decision and chose our path, I found this to be very informative —
