Question on twins

Hello everyone, Well I can't believe it - I'm finally posting on the 'other' side. (35yrs, TTC 8 years, 1 IVF, 2 ICSIs, this my first FET). Had my 7 week scan on Friday and there were twins. I know it's early days, but after seeing the heartbeats it is now starting to feel actually real. They were only tiny - 9mm and 6mm and I know the nurse said it was normal, but has anyone else had one smaller than the other and did they catch up, or always stayed a bit smaller than the other? I'm not going to worry myself silly about this, I've to go back for another scan in two weeks anyway, but it would just be interesting to know from other 'twinners' - of which there seem to be many! (Susi - how are you? We tested the same day didn't we? I've not been vomitting or anything, just low appetite/bit queasy and very fussy what I eat. I don't know my EDD so will assume it's the same as yours for the time being - don't know whether to dare ask being added to the roll call!) Best wishes to everyone Nicola x

hi Nicola Congratulations on your positive! Double congratulations on expecting twins!!

My two are slightly different sizes and have been all along. I think the key is that they grow at the same rate, regardless of how big they are. Once you get to the stage that you have maternity notes, they chart their growth against an average and minimum and maximum growth. As long as they fall within that range, I don't think they're too worried. No-ones ever expressed concern that my two are different sizes. I've also heard babies that swap throughout the pregnancy, ie. one is bigger than the other one month but the other way round the following month. They don't seem to worry about that either. Anyway, rather than me waffling on, what I mean to say is - don't worry - your babies sound absolutely fine! Let us know how you get on with your scan in 2 weeks time. You'll be amazed at how much they will grow in the meantime! Congratulations again! LOL Helen xx

Hello Nicola Firstly congratulations!!!!!! I'm 22 weeks with twins now and also had my first scan at 7 weeks. Mine were both measuring 4.9mm at that point so yours are pretty good already. Apparently they grow approx 1mm per day. I was told the same as Helen that the whole way through pregnancy, there would most likely been size differences. My 20 weeks scan - one was dated at 19+5 and the other at 20+1 and they didn't bat an eyelid. Hubby asked was told it was perfectly normal and acceptable. My dates are all over the place as well - I've been give 3 different ones so far - New Years Day, then 28th December and the latest one was Christmas Day. They'll be here when they here I reckon. Hi Helen and Sarah Thanks so much for your replies. Obviously, this is all totally new to me as I've never been pregnant before and never dared read the messages over this side too often. Sarah, you really cheered me up with the size comparisons. My big concern at the moment is my weight as since I tested positive, I've lost 3lbs as my appetite has dwindled and I'm finding it so hard to eat a lot (although I've not actually felt physically sick, just out of sorts). I'm only 7st7 (which is borderline OK for my height). So you can see why I was thrilled you reckoned their size was good! I'm going to have so many questions, but if anyone else experienced this I would love to know how long it took to get a proper appetite back - I reckon a five year old eats more than me at the moment. Hi Nicola, I'm not having twins but i just wanted to say that i lost weight at the beginning too. Not much - like you it was 2/3lbs but i did find i couldn't eat as much. Just try and make sure you eat little and often - helps you to stop feeling too sick too

Nicola Just wanted to say huge congrats!!!!!!!!!!! Twinnies how exciting. Sarah, helen etc are such experts - I am having the one As Lizzy said don't worry about your weight at the moment - the baby and babies grow regardless and get what they want and leave you with the rest! Hi Nicola Congratulations on getting a positive result and double celebrations to be having twins! I wouldn't worry about the size difference - apparently they always differ - mine at present (32wks) are roughly 3lb and 4.5lb so quite far apart but doctors aren't worried so I'm trying not to be as well! I'm sure they will be fine and will have shot up before your next scan. Take care & good luck, Luv Rachel X

Nicola, Hope you are slowly recovering from the shock!!! I know it took me a few weeks to adjust to the news. My two were always diferent sizes and Ross (who was twin 2) was always smaller. He still is, his sister Rebecca is now 4lb heavier and the boss!!!and they are now 15 months old. Remember they are two seperate babies, who would maybe have been born at different times so although it is natural to expect them to be the same... chances are they are not identical and so will be different sizes etc. If the hospital aren't worried you shouldn't be. Enjoy the next few months before you get huge and any questions you've got a load of us at all different stages here to support you. Take Care Nicky
