First IVF/ICSI---Young

Post by Lindsey_08 »

Hi Everyone,

I was just wondering if there are many young couples that are having severe fertility issues going through IVF on this board. I am 25 and have PCOS and my husband (of 4 years) has low motility and poor morphology. We have been trying for aproximately 18 months now and are just getting ready to start IVF w/ ICSI. I am very scared. Any others with a similar experience??? :(

Hi Lindsey!

I am 28 and my husband and I just went through our first IVF/ICSI cycle in June. My husband has poor morphology and I have a blocked tube. We did get pregnant but I miscarried a few weeks ago. I don't know much about PCOS but you are young and have the best chance of getting pregnant. Please let me know if you have any questions as it is fresh in my mind.

Hi Lindsey

I'm not sure if I am classed as young (30) and my partner is 29. We are just about to start our 3rd cycle using a donor. Our last cycle failed as they were unable to find any sperm from a biospy. They retreived a good amount of eggs from me but they were no good without any sperm!

As Jenni said if you have any questions just ask. We have all been in your shoes and have felt really unsure what to expect the first time round. Everyone experiences different things with ivf but we are all here to give each other support.

I really appreciate the responses. It is nice to know that I am not the only person my age going through this. It is so hard because no one I know personally is going through any of this so there is really no one to share with, but I will definately be using you wonderful ladies as a resource.

Thanks again![/i]

My husband(28) and I (23) just underwent our first IVF-ICSI. I have no apparent problems but he suffers from low sperm county and limited motility and mobility. I just found out that the first take didn't take and we got a BFN. I thought I was set for sucess because I was so young. I did everything that the doctor told me. I hope yours works out better. I am very hopeful that number 2 will take. We will try again in October!

I'm not as young as you now but DH and I were married at 24 and were hoping to get pregnant our whole marriage an just started looking into things last year. I always assumed it was only me who had a problem then we found out he had issues too. Don't be afraid, you are lucky to be young and know about it because it gives you a lot longer to hopefully have success.
IVF isn't that bad, it has brought me and DH a lot closer. We had a BFN back in March and are now awaiting our test for #2. Best of luck to you!

Hi ladies
I hope your cycles bring you your BFP's next time round. You are both lucky that you got to ET we didn't even get that far we had 0 fertilisation so didn't even get to the 2ww.

Hi Linsay,

I'm Kelly, I'm 30 and have PCOS and unexplained infertility and dh has no fertility problems. we have been married for almost 4 years and have been trying pretty much from the start. this is our first time trying ivf also, we have done lots of rounds with the meds and then trying on our own because everything seemed to be working , I just wasn't getting pregnant. we did one insemination which didn't work so IVF is our next step.

Unfortunately we will only be doing it this once since we have paid so much already and can't really afford to keep going. we quit all treatments for almost a year to save for this one round of IVF. I'm so praying it works!

I will pray for you too that it works! God bless!

Kelly,

I hope this works for you. When is your retrieval date? I am set currently for Tues (9/11). I am thinking of you and praying that you will get your BFP. It is so hard when insurance will not cover IVF. Does your state have requirements on IVF and insurance? We are very lucky and have full coverage for IVF (mind you we have to jump through hoops, stand on our heads, fill out a mountain of paperwork and then wait....forever), but so far they have paid for everything minus a copay for our initial consult and around $250.00 in copays for all of the medication. How many are you planning to transfer? It is nice to know there are other young couples on here....sometimes I feel like we are the youngest people that our RE sees...I think people wonder why we are there....oh well. Hope to hear from you soon.

Hi Again Linsey!

So nice to hear from you again. So tomorrow is the day for your ER, you are in my thoughts! Mine was supposed to be tomorrow or Wednesday but I'm not quite ready yet so it will most likely be Thursday or Friday 9/13 or 9/14. Right now I have follicles at 20, 15, 13, 12 and two at 14, they said they like to see at least four or more at more than 17.

That is so great that you insurance covers it, I feel like being an advocate and trying to get more insurance companies to cover more procedures but I'm so taken in just by doing all this... unfortunately our insurance covers nothing at all so it's really wiping us out. It's hard too because the people at the doctors office always assume we are covered and schedule us for sometimes unncessary stuff so we have to keep reminding them we are paying out of pocket.

My doctor told us for my age group they only let you transfer one or two embryo's so we decided on two unless for some reason our dr. recommends otherwise when the time comes.

When I tell people that we are doing this they always tell me we have lots of time because we are still young, so I know exactly what you mean about people thinking that. People just don't understand what we are going thru. Its so devastating trying for so many years with nothing happening and everyone around you is having babies. It's so heartbreaking isn't it?

But at least this is something we can do to give a chance at having a bundle of joy! Best of luck tomorrow and hope to hear from you soon!

Hi Keddie,

I am sorry that I did not update but my retrieval got moved back to Wednesday but I am doing my HCG shot this evening. I am really excited to be off of the stims. Right now we have 20 follicles most of which are between 18-24. I am praying that most if not all will fertilize and we will be able to do a day 5 transfer. If we do a day 5 transfer then we will do 2 embryos but if we do a day 3 transfer then we will probably transfer 3. Good luck on Thursday or Friday and keep me updated!

I got home today around 11 from my egg retrieval and it went really well. All this time they kept saying that they were seeing 20 eggs but in fact they retrieved 22 today. Now we just have to wait to hear from embryology tomorrow on how many of the eggs fertilized. I am feeling okay just trying to rest and using a heating pad to keep the cramping to a minimum. They think that we will be doing a day 5 transfer (so that would be Monday) but we won't know for sure until tomorrow. I am super excited! We should know two weeks from today if this whole thing has been worth it. I keep teasing Jon and saying that they are making our babies today...anyway...I am in good spirits and optomistic which is more than can be said for the past couple of weeks so....2 week wait here we come....
