Wow Dex! What an amazing outcome. You must be feeling very positive. Let's hope your little blastocyst is hunkering down right now...

I am curious to know how they are able to have you grow so many follicles without the risk of OHSS (ovarian hyper stimulation). Were your estrogen levels at a safe range throughout your treatment? (or maybe that's only a risk for PCOS women)...

Am also curious to know which clinic you were at before and how the IVF process was different with Sydney IVF...

Cheers

Thanks so much girls. Hope you are all doing well also. I have to wait until Monday now to get the official result on how many frosties we have. They grow them longer than transfer day to make sure the strongest survive even further as otherwise they don't survive the freezing...yes, great  Of course, I am expecting the worse now and am kind of bummed that I was told we had that number of blasts to freeze when realistically that could all change by Monday. Makes me doubt the little one I have inside me now too. Desperately trying to hang onto PMA. Have decided I will do a HPT 7 days pt which will be on Thursday. I will probably leave it to Fri morning. AF should be due Sat anyways. I like to know what's going on so I can pick myself up and get on with things.

Ozstock - Funnily enough, I am not that positive. I always think the worse. I've tried positive thinking and to be honest, along with acupuncture, caffeine - free and every other fad, it's never altered the outcome for me! Re the follicles, my antral count was only about 12 or so I think and they put me on 225 of PUREGON because of my FSH..I think? Anyways, had no prblems or major bloating either time. Every blood work result came back as estragen levels all fine and good, so I'm imagining they were never concerned I was over stimulating? They did warn me that I may experience this now after my ET, but so far - nil.

I am at SYDNEY IVF for this cycle and previously did a fresh and frozen cycle with IVF Australia (city and Westmead clinic). My doc was Joel Bernstein. My doc at Syd IVF is Mark Livingstone. I found the results between both of my fresh cycles to be drastically different. IVF # 1 - 15 eggs, 11 fert, 4 embryos with only 3 making it to 4 cell and a 2 day transfer. 2 frozen and neither really making it through the thawing process. They transfered a very slow 5 cell, day 3 embryo for my FET. I did some research from there and kept reading about blastocyst transfer which led me to SYD IVF. I also heard that their lab culture was one of the best in the world, hence their ability to grow the embryos to day 5 with great success. Anyway, I never felt like I was in for a chance before. This time I have a glimmer of hope, but only a glimmer

One thing that did stand out as a major difference to me was that at my previous docs, I was told that further investigation into my inability to fall pregnant would only be done after a series of failed IVFs. That's when further testing would be done. Me being very impatient, did not like the idea of having to wait for that and promptly changed clinics. Dr Livingstone immediately ordered chromosone testing and others which all brought about nothing but at least peace of mind and one less thing to worry about.

The differences in the 2 clinics for me were: 1/ expense! SYD IVF $8500 compared to IVF AUST $2800. 2/ Ability to have ET and EC 7 days a week, whenever your body was ready. 3/ Longer waits at SYD IVF and a more clinical approach. They have a production line of patients there! 4/ I was on completely diff drugs with SYD IVF. Put on the pill for 2 weeks prior to down regging. Then 2 injections a day - Lucrin and PUREGON and the trigger shot was OVRIDEL rather than PREGNEL. I was also left to stimulate longer at SYD IVF. 14 days rather than 10 with IVF AUST where my follicle scan at biggest before EC was 16mm. This time we grew them to 20mm.

I don't understand the reasons for the differences but I was happy to try and had a fantastic cycle. The outcome however, is yet to be seen. Either way, I would def give SYD IVF a few more attempts. Hope that helps!

PS - Are you also doing IVF at the moment and if so, which clinic are you at?

Hi Dex,
Thanks for answering my Qs. I was also at IVF Australia before, with Prof. Chapman at Kogarah. I did 3 months of clomid, then 2 IUIs and 2 rounds of IVF with them. First IVF was cancelled just before EC due to OHSS risk (i had about 30 follicle growing but estrogen was too high- due to polycystic ovaries), 2nd IVF had 10 eggs which resulted in two 5-day blastocysts, both transferred but neither took). I was starting another round of IVF with them but had natural pregnancy, but we lost the baby due to complications in first trimester. (BTW, i used Lucrin with them and also Puregon at IVF Australia). Also tried accupuncture/Chinese herbs, and did more clomid with pregnyl shots in between.

Then i changed clinics to Fertility First with Dr. Anne Clarke. Did more tests with her, everything for both DH and I were perfectly fine, did long cycle IVF but due to PCOS and OHSS risk, ended up being too conservative and only ended up with 3 follicles prior to EC, so we changed to IUI, but ended in BFN. We just did a straight IUI with them, still in 2WW. But I'm like you, not too positive. As this has been going on for so long, you just have to take every day as it comes. Feels like the past 4 and a half years have been lived in 2 week increments. Get AF, wait 2 weeks for ovulation, then 2 weeks for AF/BFN, then start all over again.

If this IUI is unsuccessful, then we have to decide whether to give one more try at IVF (in which case, i might consider changing to Mark Livingstone at Sydney IVF or Dr. Jeffrey Persson at IVF Australia) or move down the adoption path.

Anyway, sounds like we've been going down a similar path for the past 4 or so years. Hopefully our luck with change soon!

Cheers

Hiya again,

My hubby and I went to see the doc last week and I will go back to tmt from my next cycle. 2nd time lucky maybe???

Dex, maybe we will do 2ww at the same time?

Ozstock, I know exactly what you are saying about life on 2week increments.... You know we will both get BFP soon. We will, and then no more 2w increaments...

Kery, how are you? are you on 2ww right now???

Cheers, Tiger

Hi ya
I am on my 2ww but this cycle I did a iui with donor sperm. I am about half way through the lovely 2ww. At this stage I don't have any symptoms. How are you feeling?

Hi Kery,

Good luck with this cycle! The boys are almost 5 months old! I just realised that this time last year, I was halfway through my 2ww with them! God the time has flown.

Have my fingers crossed for the 27th.

Hello girls

Well, not sure if you remember me. I was hanging around in April, May and June. DH and I were lucky enough to get a BFP in May of this year but at the end of June we miscarried. So, I have been away getting on with my life and trying to pick up the pieces.
We are now ready for another crack at it and have two embies left in storage. We will have the transfer on Thursday of this week - I am very excited but not counting my chickens before they hatch. First of all we have to have the embies survive the freezing, then we have to get a BFP and then get by without having another miscarriage.
However, it was my first pregnancy and first miscarriage and there is nothing there to indicate a problem. Fingers crossed.
Hope everyone is well on here.

Hi Babs
I'm sorry that you have had a rough few months. Good luck with the little embies surviving the thaw. You are right it pays not to get to excited until you have the bfp but even then things can go wrong, as you have experienced. I think not getting excited before results means that it's not so hard if it turns into a bfn.

We are coming home (nz) for xmas in December for three and a half weeks. I can't wait!!! I miss kiwi land so much.

Hi girls

Well our embies didn't make it. I am actually in shock at the moment as they say 70% of them are meant to survice - we had two and neither of them.
So unfortunately that is it for us for a while. We are not sure what we are going to do now.
At least I don't have to use those lovely pessaries anymore.
Good luck to you all - I will pop in from time to time and see how you are all going.

I know it's a real bum out when you don't even get to the 2ww. Are you going to have a break and try again?

Barb - great to hear from you, though sorry its under such sad circumstances. Good luck if you go again. Remember you got pregnant once, there is every chance that it will happen again just as easily. Also one in 4 normal pregnancies will result in a mc - it may not be related to your IVF at all, just one of those things. Think of it as a trial run...now your body will know exactly what to do!

Good luck,

Em
