Follie Count..scared & nervous

So I went in today for my B/W & US - On monday when I went, the left side was much larger thatn the right....biggest being 13 (2 of them) and Ihave about 12 maybe total...if that. Well they lowered my Follistom for three shots from 75 to 50 and one was still staying at 75. Well today at U/S one of my follies was already 22 (onthe left) and the others on the left were around 15-17 while on the right I am only measuring from 11-15ish. They said I might do the retrieval on Friday now (they were originally thinking Sat Sun or maybe even Mon)

What's going on? How will they ever get mature eggs from the rest of my follicles, and what does it matter if one grows large..why can't we just forget that egg..its not like I have many to begin with!

I am so disappointed right now, it is making me sick...

Has this happened to anyone else? Any advise would be VERY welcome.

Hi Kelly,

Don't forget that your follies will grow more in the next 2 days. By Friday, your 15-17s will probably be around 20-22 and your 13s will be around 18-20. That is mature enough to harvest. The one that is a 22 right now might be overripe by harvest, but the majority of your follicles will be at the perfect stage. That is exactly what you want so dont panic!

I assume your doc will monitor you via U/S daily. It sounds like he's doing the right thing and you;ll probably get about 8 follies or so.

I only got six with my last successful ivf and have a beautiful little girl as a result. Good luck!!

Thanks so much for your kind words Rotobay!!! I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to have a little girl... Do your follicles still grow if you don't give anymore injections? The nurses made it sound like I may haveno more injections, since I will be giving HCG possibly tonight..or I might have one more day (tonight & tomorrow) of injections then do HCG tomorrow night.

So..do your follicles still grow when you stop the injections?

Yep they continue to grow. I think the hcg trigger also stimulates growth because I've had 3 rounds of stims and each time my follies were growing about 2 mm per day on average (with injections).

But my doc has me stop injections for one day then do the hcg trigger and on the final day, my follies have always grown more than the usual 2mm (some grew by 3, some by 4, the smallest a 13 grew to 19!).

Good luck to you! I am on day 6 of stims right now and have 8 follicles (a LOT for me) so I'm hoping this cycle is the lucky one. Keep me posted on your progress! I've got my fingers crossed for you!

Rotobay - question for you?? I did not have too many follicles either. My first IVF I had 9 oocytes retrieved and only 1 fertilized = bfn. My second IVF I had 10 retrieved and 2 fertilized = bfn.

How many of yours fertilized? I am curious because I am going to see the RE on 9/14 and am trying to gather info. Thanks

Hi Tricia,

Out of 6 eggs, 3 fertilized but one of the 3 had 'arrested development" meaning it stopped dividing. SO I was left with 2 viable embryos and they implanted both. I had a single baby.

But this time, I have 8 oocytes and after retrieval (probably next tuesday) they will use ICSI to make sure all of them fertilize. My RE was telling me that many women have a tough zona (the outer shell of the egg) which the sperm has trouble penetrating, thus very few if any eggs will fertilize. Therefore he plans to use ICSI to maximize my chances for a good # of embryos. Hope that helps! And good luck to you!!
