Dialated Kidneys in fetus

Good Afternoon...we just had our level II scan, during they found our beautiful little girl has dialated kidneys. They said this shows in 7-8% of all fetus' and 90% of the time clears itself up. Anybody have any help or had a simular situation?

Congratulations on your pregnancy. I'm so happy for you.

I had exactly the same problem with Ellie. Her kidneys were at 6mm which is the cut off. I was told this isn't really anything to worry about it just means she would get a scan when she's born. Obviously with everything else going one when she arrived her kidneys were forgotten!

She had a scan in May and they showed she had kidney stones but these were probably more because of her prematurity. Besides they aren't too bothered about these.

thanks for the reply Pebbles...as you can imagine I have been researching like crazy on the internet...boy I love my computer. I don't know what I would have done with out this site and all it's great people!

They found something similar on my DS at my 20 week u/s. He actually has two ureters and they were worried about blockage, infection, etc. The scared me at first and made it sound like he would have issues and need surgery within the first year but thankfully we have an AMAZING pediatrician who quickly calmed our fears and explained that with these amazing ultrasounds they can pick up everything - his philosophy is that there are probably millions of us out there with small quirky things going on, but as long as everything works - we shouldn't mess with it. We loved his philosophy and have stuck by it. DS is now 6, has had several scans - there are still two tubes, but has never had an issue. It is nice to be aware of, but I don't think you should let it panic you. I know more about kidneys than anyone should, so if you want to chat, feel free to pm or reply here. We had this with ourson who is now 5 weeks. I went for a 38 week growth scan and it was picked up then. I too was really worried but they told methat in most cases thereisn't an issue. He had a scan at 6 daYs old which was clear, but needs rescanning at 3 months before he gets all clear. So far we have't had any problems but usually its just a case of some antibiotics and nothing more. Try not to worry and sure your little one will be given the all clear as well .
