Hey. It has been a while since I posted and this in in response to the Nuchel Fold Translucency test thng..

I had the test done about 2 weeks ago and the ultrasound itself was fine. the blood test came back with 2 markers though. Very low protein from the placenta. The placental protein should be 1.0 and my two markers were .1 and .2. We found out about this while we were on vacation (we live in NC and we were visiting family in CT). The low proteins could be a marker for Trisomy 13 , 18, or a nonviable pregnancy. We had to wait until we got home to see the Dr.(six days). Those were the most awful days of our lives. It was highly recommended to us to have the CVS test done due to the fact that Trisomy 13, 18 are fatal to the baby. We had to know because I could not go on 7 months wondering. I was sad, depressed, upset, not eating- that is not good for the baby either. The risk of miscarriage is there- however it is very low, 1% I believe, but it doesn't matter if you are that one percent does it?

We arrived home last Tuesday at 1100 am and had the CVS test at 3:45. We elected to have the FISH results done, they come back in 24-48 hours and they test 4 chromosomes.. Sex, Trisomy 13, 18 and 21(Down's Syndrom). The test hurt like hell. They can go vaginally or transabdomaly, depending where your placental is They went through the tummy for me. They first injected local in the belly and that was ok. then with the ultrasound, a needle is quided into the uterus to the placenta. The penetration to the uterus was what hurt like a *****. A sample is taken and a bandaid is put on the site.

Our FISH results came back in 24 hours and showed that the baby doesn't have the Trisomies- however the low protein in the placenta is cause for alarm. The final results come back this week. They explained it to me about the rate of miscarriage- they said that most babies with chromosomal abnormalities die so the correlation to the procedure and miscarrige is not really proven. I had to go with what they said. I know a lot of you said that you would elect not to have the test, however I had to. Most Trisomy babies die inutero, the other ones do not live past their first birthdays. Many die within hours of birth.

If anyone has to have this done, I am a source of answers about emotions you may have and questions about the procedure. The clinic will watch me more closely and I will have more ultrasounds than I had last time with Jack. It was/is a very trying situation with a lot of uncertainty. We had/have a lot of people praying for us and with us. Anyway.. this is my two cents worth about NFT test and CVS test.

For AMA women(Advanced maternal age women) I really recommend the NFT test... If only to prepare you for whatever.. This is only a screening exam not a test with definitive answers and you must remember that. HOpe everyone is doing ok..

Ciao

hi everyone , i'm sorry i havent checked in in a while . my dd had a birthday and i had company two weekends i a row so its been a little hectic.

i'm glad to hear everyone is doing well! I think i am too. i got released from the fertility doc friday (15 weeks) and have an appointment tomorrow morning with my obgyn. friday the babies were both moving on the ultrasound and seemed to be great. i'm about to have a panic attack on finding out what they are. we think one is a boy and one is a girl.. but the regular tech wasn't there friday ( she wanted to look again to make sure) and the temp said" oh.. its to early for me to tell"... i was so frustrated. LOL.
anyway, i guess they will be what they will be :)

Sleepyfoy,

I am sorry that you have to go through this. I am 25 yrs old and me and my husband will not be doing AFP testing. I am an RN and I have heard a lot of different stories about these tests. I do recommend that Any woman over 35 sould get these but I would not worry much because I have heard many different stories about results and many woman go on and have beautiful healthy babies. My toughts and prayers are with you. Hang in there. Everything will be fine.

Dixiegal,

I am glad you are doing ok.

Jodi- did the doctor tell you what low protein in the placenta means? If not trisomies, then what? Also, did you find out the gender? I hope everything turns out okay. I had the NT last week and got my blood results on Friday. My risk for Down's was 1:1,438 and close to the same for the other two, but they didn't mention anything about protein. I don't think we'll do amnio or CVS, based on those numbers. Please keep us posted.

Hi all!

I have been released to my OB too and so far have had 2 appointments done with the last one today and she has not mentioned any of the tests (NT, CVS or amnio) you guys have mentioned. Dh and I are reluctant to do the amnio but I want to know if this is highly recommended at my age (I will be 35 in January). My U/S today was good. The baby's busy moving around so we couldn't tell if it's a boy or girl yet and it's a little too soon.

Jodi, my prayers are with you. I'm sure it's hard waiting for these results. Please let us know as soon as you hear.

I hope everyone is doing well.

After waiting well over a week for my results to come back from my nuchal scan, i finally got them in today....apparently new system...long delays...yawn yawn!!!

Well everythings great..im a very low risk, they could see the babies brains, bowels, nasel bones ect...so im soooo happy and relieved.
My Dh and i had said that no mater what these babies would be loved but still its nice to get the re-assureance, do u know what i mean.

The babies are getting big and so am i, im nearly 4 months now and am officially in maternity clothes
I even think i felt one move yesterday!!!! it was only small but def there.
This pregnancy is really starting to sink in now, it has taken sometime for me to relax and believe this is really happening.

Hello,

Hope evryone is doing ok. I had my midwife appt. three days ago and everything was ok. Heartrate was 150's. I am 16w3d and I still have not felt the baby move.

My midwife mentioned doing u/s and we decided to do Level II, because last year I had a miscarriage in second trimester. So we are scheduled in 2 weeks. I can not wait. I will be 18 weeks then.

hey everyone... havent gotten to check in in a while and i hope everyone is doing okay!
I finally got released to my regular ob on sept 11. she scheduled me for an ultrasound on october 2.. so hopefully i wil find out what they are then. i'll be 18weeks4days. This has been the longest wait since the 2wwLOL. I was disappointed with my first visit... they had put me down for the wrong appointment time... then the doc didn't even realize i was having twins because she didn't read the chart or the cover letter from the fertility specialist.. ( and I had told the nurse).... so it will have been four weeks since i have gotten to hear a heartbeat or seen them on ultrasound and i'm about to go nuts!. lol.

I am now taking weekly progesterone shots called the 17 p injection... has anyone else heard of this?? supposedly it helps prevent premature labor..... Also i found out she prefers to do a c section on twins which i guess is fine by me... less labor time.. less stress on the babies.... unfortunately.. harder recovery for me... but i have had two major abdominal surgeries so i think i know what i'm getting into.....

i hope everyone checks in soon and lets us know how yall are doing....
is anyone else still getting tired easy??? i am also on iron supplements 3 times a day because i was anemic... but i stil find myself really tired...

Hey everyone- all is well here. My extreme exhaustion has begun to diminish, thank goodness. I am still getting headaches about 5 times per week. Is anyone else experiencing this? I go to the dr. on Wed. and am going to ask about them just to make sure, although everything I read about it says it's normal- hormones and all that. Otherwise, doing pretty well. I bought my first maternity clothes last week at Old Navy- they have really cute corduroys with the expandable waist. I'm a teacher so I don't need to dress up too often. Will buy a dress for Christmas and maybe something else festive for Christmas Eve and parties. I rented the doppler, so I can hear the heartbeat whenever I like. DH loves to listen!!! Hope everyone else is doing well. When is everyone finding out the sex (if you are)?
Dixie- I have not heard of those shots- must be for twins and more, right?

Hi everyone,
I haven't had the energy to write lately, but I have been reading the posts. I am finally getting over the horrid morning sickness and beginning to feel like myself again--yeah!
Dixiegal1-I too am taking something called hydroxyprogesterone injections once a week for premature labor. I am also taking a nightly progesterone pill because I had some bleeding this past week. It wasn't very much and brown, but they could see a small pool of it in my uterus. They are not sure if it abruption (keeping my fingers crossed it's not) or just a bleed. Baby A's placenta is close to my cervix. I am also having a cerclage in two weeks to also help prevent premature labor. Anyone else ever have one done? I had my first trimester screening this week also and the babies look great. Can't wait to find out the sex. I am also seeing a Perintologist for my OB visits and it has really put my mind at ease knowing I have a high-risk docor who knows my history.
I just ordered a maternity belt called the Prenatal Cradle. Does anyone have any advice about belts? I also read about the bellybra, but didn't order one. I think it is for later in the pregnacy???
Hope everyone is doing well.

Hey Everyone

Sounds like everyone is doing ok. Tired and growing. We found out our results last week of the CVS test and the baby is chromosomally ok. - I am going to have monthly ultrasounds done so they can monitor the baby's growth. They are doing this because of the low protein markers they found last month which when they told us about it, they said it could be a sign of a nonviable pregnancy. Anyway... We are doing ok. Taking everyday as a gift. I too am getting migraines which SUCK. Not fun but treatable. DH does not want to talk about a nursery yet, so we haven't thought about having someone come refinish our attic(so he could put his "office" up there and the baby could have the office room.)

I am glad that everyone is doing ok.... take care.

hello ladies!!! its been quite sometime since i have been on, it has been one hell of a rollercoaster ride for me. i didnt hink i would be able to write on this board anymore for a while there. so big update. at 12 weeks i stopped all meds except prenatals everything seemed to be ok when 2 days later i woke up in sever pain and looked like somone tried to murder me i was bleeding so bad and passing huge clots that dh called a ambulance i couldnt even walk, i arrived at the hosp had tons of test ran and the doc gave me a long speech about expecting the worse until he did an ultrasound and saw that baby was just fine. they got thebleeding under controll and i was sent home with the only an answer of we dont know why you bled like that....im sorry what you dont know?? so we went home not very happy a week later i was set up with a reg ob and everythig had gone fine until i hit about 15 wks then it hapened again same thing this time we drove to the hosp but went to one well out of our way and found out the bleeding was coming from a low lying placenta and a sever bladder infection and some kind of infection called bacterial vaginosis so i was placed on bedrest and antibiotics. while i was there at the hosp they scheduled me to see a perinatologist for the exact next day so we went back and everything has been great since i saw her and she told me because my ob was incompetent she would be taking over my care and she has watched me and the baby like a hawk. she cheked my cervix to make sure everything was ok and she also told me about the low lying placenta which can cause bleeding and camping so all is well and i can rest comfortbly again knowing that the low placenta can usualy correct itself later in pregnancy we also found out that we may be having a lil boy so that made the visit that more reassuring. i go back next week on the first of oct when i hit 17wks to check my cervix again and confirm my lil guy. so im back on the thread again ladies im glad to read everyone is doing well i have/will keep you guys in my prayers and also since then the bleeding has stopped still minor cramping but nothing too bad. im also on medical disability for high risk pregnancy so i wont be going back to work until this lil guy makes it here safely. i hope all of you are doing well. have a great day!

Wow Brandi, sounds like you have been on a rollercoaster these past 15 weeks. Not only physically draining, but emotional too. Glad to hear things are slowing down, you have gotten some answers and you are now getting the care you need. I pray you a smoother remainder of your pregnancy.
