Hi everyone!

Hope you and your ever growing bumps are doing well?!

Just a quick question really, has anyone out there been suffering from really bad lower backache, mine comes and goes, but is horrendous today, had to take paracetamol to numb the pain.

Read in one of my many books that this can be the effects of a hormone that softens everything up in there to allow baby to grow.

Would really really appreciate it to hear from any fellow sufferers (preferably further down the line than me!!) to put my mind at rest that this is normal!

An anxious Dawn signing off,

D x (10 weeks today!)
Me 34, DH, 37. Married for 11 years, ttc for 6+, failed 4 x fresh IVF tmts. 5th attempt at Lister Hospital gave us Megan on 5 April 2004 with a very straightforward pregnancy and labour. Attempt number 6 to start hopefully September 2007!

Hi Dawn - hope you're doing OK. I have had backache too - really low down in the middle (bottom ache really I suppose!) Especially if I'm doing any bending or physical activity. My back feels a bit weak.

Progesterone is the hormone that softens your ligaments - I'm still taking the cyclogest pessaries (until this friday - hooray!!) so they contain progesterone in addition to that which my body is (hopefully) making naturally.

Backache, pot belly, puking ...... and we still wouldn't swap it for the world !!!

Lots of Love, Jo. XX

Hiya

totally normal - my back was shocking the first few weeks - pessaries made it worse I think then got colitis so my bowel always gives me shocking back ache. improved for a bit and now get it quite badly again - normally after a day at work not being able to put my feet up and just can't get comfy on our settee! I fidget around and then gets worse - have just bought a bump cushion for bed which i use for my back in the evening - am 19 weeks.
All part and parcel I think
Love
Tracey
xxx

Dear Dawn,

I think that the back ache is normal unfortunately!!

I keep getting pain in my coccyx - especially when I sit on the train for an hour or so. Apparently it's because all your weight has shifted forward, so you end up sitting on your coccyx. Also I get very stiff and sore hips when I walk around a lot.

What a moaner!!! - still, I wouldn't swap being pregnant for the world.

Alison xx
Hi girls,
I was and am really worried about backache as I tended to suffer back pain before being pg if I'd done too much or stretched in a funny way - so I asked my midwife for advice - at our health centre there is an obstetric physiotherapist so it might be worth asking if your GP surgeries have one. Also, I have started seeing a chiropracter (best to see an osteopath or chiropracter who is used to dealing with pregnancy as you don't want to be manipulated!!), as mine was really twingy the other week with aches and pains down my legs - and apparently the baby had had a bit of a growth spurt which had pulled things a bit out of alignment. I'm going to keep going every 3 weeks or so as I can't bear back pain!
Me - severe endo, DH - poor sperm. First IVF ICSI Nov 02 neg. Second IVF/ICSI May 03 Positive.

I'm going to keep going every 3 weeks or so as I can't bear back pain and have to say I do feel a lot better. Also, make sure you keep legs together when getting in and out of cars, sit up straight and don't slouch (wow - I sound like a mother already - I bet I'll be really bossy!!!)

Apparently it's a combination of the hormones relaxin and progesterone, plus the weight of the baby and increased size of the uterus!

So it's all totally normal!

love Sally (18 wks) xxx
