worried just started stimulation meds

Post by josie1967 »

Hi
I'm new to this message board, in fact new to doing this kind of thing! I'm not sure what all the abbreviations stand for either! But, IVF, i've done before. My husband and i were successful and have a 9 year old daughter.

We felt so lucky to have her, so never thought about trying again.

Our lives have changed, we've emigrated from the UK, our life here is good.

"We should try to have another child" became an issue, "if we don't try, we will regret it"

So here i am, pushing 40, actually i'm so close i can throw my arms around it and give it a good squeeze!!!

I'm now on day 5 of my fsh drugs, i had my estrogen levels done yesterday (33) compared to (27) when i started. I wouldn't have thought anything about it until the nurse told me don't worry about it, some ladies take longer to be stimulated.

Does this mean i'm not producing eggs? has anyone out there been in this position? I go tomorrow for another blood test and an U/S. What should I be asking?

Hi josie1967,

Best of luck with the treatment - you'll get lots of support here from the many, many people sharing your position. And don't worry about the estrogen levels... I personally found they varied in response time from treatment to treatment and since the clinic you are attending are on to it - they'll deal with it. No worries!

cancelled treatment

Post by josie1967 »

Hi there, thanks to you both for your support.

I went Thursday and had my bloods done and then had a scan. I had 5 follicles on the left and none on the right. The doctor was disappointed with this and discussed the fact my estrogen was so low. He said that unless it came back in the hundreds he would recommend stopping treatment! I was devastated..... i hadn't expected this at all. I asked why it wasn't climbing, did this mean i had no eggs? He said it was a sign i wasn't responding to the drugs.... They called me later that day and my estrogen had fallen to 20?????

The nurse was about the most unhelpful person i had ever encountered, she couldn't tell me anything "because that would be diagnosis" So, I go again this morning to see my doc. I don't understand what my hormone levels mean, I know the 20 is really low, (menopause low) but i don't know if my drugs caused that, if it was because I may have ovulated or what? Anyway, we are both very disappointed, but at least we have had the weekend to think about it.
Its not been a great time for me, i turned 40 yesterday, I'm not sure I'm ready to face the possibility that my eggs are gone!!

Anyway, its an exciting time for both you ladies, hatching eggs and babies between you..... happiness and love to you both

Hi Josie

I am going for EC tom - my right ovary as far as they could see had not been stimulated at all - but 3 follies on left of excelelnt size so some hope for you - if the nurse was not supportive see if you can change - this is tough enough as it is without arsey nusring staff

Thinking of you - and remeber age is just a number - its how young you feel that matters xxxx

Hi Again

well after a couple of days of wallowing in self pity, I'm back.

Thanks for your support and interest ladies. Its a lonely infertile road that we tread!

Carbev- busy times ahead hey? Miracles do happen, you are right. I have a daughter that was an IVF baby 9 years ago. You inspire me because i have to be honest, the reason i never tried again earlier was the belief that she was my good luck, that it couldn't happen again. But that's stupid thinking.... i should be hoping instead!

Wishful- that makes today a busy day for you? Thinking about you, hoping alls well. X

SL- i think you're on stimulants still? Ganirelex, is that Antigon? I'm not clear with all the different regimes yet. You will have some idea about how the drugs are working by now though i think? Good luck, (i think that feels so cheesy, its not really about luck because i think that translates to me having bad luck? Its definitely a roller coaster thats for sure, i think its more about timing... if the timings right, it'll happen.)I hope this is your time X

Well, to let you know where I'm at. Basically the Doc thought my response indicated that i was over suppressed. Now I'm not sure if that means anything to anyone out there because I've tried finding out if anyone else has been there on this site, but haven't really come up with anything. My FSH is 10.2 and Estrogen was 47 at the start. He said this meant i has a low reserve of eggs, but i had them, and it didn't indicate menopause. So that was good news (i think??) I had been taking the OCP continuously for 5 weeks, then went straight onto lupron and started the Flare regime. He said my ovaries had been suppressed too much. Sooooooooo, I'm now waiting for two cycles to go by, then will try a different regime of drugs. I think they are Antigen?? but basically i go with my natural cycle but boosted.........

So now i just wait. Get my head back together, concentrate on what i have to be thankful for.

thanks ladies

Hi Josie!

I know you are worried but this is not good for you. Worry itself I believe can put a strain on your trying to conceive so try your best to let things not get to you. I too had a low E2 level my first cycle. This only means they may need to adjust your meds to a stronger dosage. I wish you all the best in this journey. I know it is not a pleasant thing to go through as I have been through 4 cycles and still I wait. I will keep you in my prayers and I wish you much happiness.

Sincerely,

Sonya

Hello Josie - You may want to drop in on the "Over 40 Thread". I think you will be inspired by the ladies who have succeeded in giving birth recently. You may find info re some of the various protocols geared specifically toward us ladies of "advanced maternal age". You will definitely find some very caring, supportive, understanding ladies. Good Luck to you.
